Hi folks,
When I try full-stop brake, it is quite noisy (as if the pads/disks are rusty) and it is not as responsive nor strong as I would expect in comparison to other minivans/SUVs. Has anyone experienced the same?

Thanks,

Stopping with brakes pads...pre-historic technology! ;-)

It stops differently compared to other suvs/minivans I guess. The "transmission" does a good portion of braking which is why the car doesn't continue forward momentum when you apply the brakes and the needle drops to charge mode. They call it regen braking and isn't found on non-hybrids (including some hybrids)

Also, since the car is dead quiet most noises of pumps, brakes and safety checks all sound very obvious.

I think it's a bit different but after getting used to it, I find it very cool. Wasting energy via friction of engine parts or brakes is the old way to slow down.

It's usually a good idea to let the discs/pads seat fully before doing deliberate hard braking. This will also brush off any rust. They will always work but emergency braking early on causes hot spots which make the pads a little more more prone to wear or possibly can warp the discs. I like to think a hundred miles or so of normal use is good.

The brakes on my PacHy are very good with solid feel and strong stopping. They are as good as the brakes in my BMW's which is saying a lot. When braking at max, the ABS kicks in to stop the wheels from locking up and causes loud buzzing and vibration in the pedal so maybe that's what you're hearing.

BTW, if you want to experience the emergency brake from ****, pushing the parking brake button while you are rolling greater than 3 MPH engages the hydraulic brakes (feels like all 4 wheels) at full on ABS intensity. They let go immediately when you release the button. I'm timid and tried it on a wet road at low speed. I suppose it was intended for those who've driven all 559 miles and find they can't use the brake pedal as they pull into the Super8 because their lower body has fallen asleep. It does wake everybody up.
