Here are some photos and description of what I did - hope it helps someone else...
Very helpful tools: 10mm deep socket, T15 Torx bit, upholstery and trim tools (harbor freight makes a cheap set)
1) Remove the top trim piece first - has 4 press-in clips, pulls out easy.
2) Work the corner trim off - The corners are tricky and everything pulls out. Use the tools and work slow. It is tough where these pieces meet the main panel.
3) Work the big panel off. The red marks in the photo show where the trim pins are located.
4) Unplug the camera/plate light plug
5) Unscrew the 6 - 10mm plastic nuts (marked in red)
6) Work the white clips (marked in yellow above) by squeezing together and pushing out with needle nose plyers as they are deep in the metal frame. This is the biggest pain. There are also sticky butyl washers around these points which almost glue the piece on. I pushed more than I pulled from the outside, but I still had to pull. It will come off, be patient.
7) I chose to remove the rear wiper assembly as it was in the way of one of the white clips. Flip up the black cap on wiper blade, 10mm nut, pull wiper off, then 2 silver 10mm nuts, 1 10mm bolt/washer and the assembly came out easy.
8) Unplug the camera (careful with the small brittle clip - I broke mine and had to zip-tie back) and unscrew the T15 screws to separate the camera holder from the exterior trim piece
9) To get the camera out, you have to torque the holder a bit - there are two little tabs that keep it in place.
10) Reverse it all to put it back together.
Some tips
- Test the camera before putting all of the parts back together (be safe, put the parking break on)
- You can buy trim pins and clips if you break them at most auto stores.
- You don't need to take all the little panel hole covers off, but you should remove the tailgate handles (they pop out).
- Getting corner trim back on was as much pain as getting it off.
- push the white clips and the screw posts from the inside as someone else pulls form the outside and it will come off pretty easy.
- I broke my camera plug clip and just used zip ties to secure it - it actually feels way tighter than my previous camera now.
I hope this is somewhat helpful. Best of luck to you!
