I have a 2017 Pacifica with the towing package and the hands free liftgate. The manual says that with the towing package the "activation" zones are on either side of the trailer hitch toward the side of the vehicle, about under the park sensors. If you don't have the towing package then the "activation zone" is in the center where the trailer hitch would go if you dont have the towing package. My hands free activation rate is awfull. Works 1 out of 10 or 15 tries, and only if the foot is placed near the hitch, not in the zone specified by the manual. Been to the dealer twice, replaced sensors and wiring, no change. They are throwing up their hands and saying that is normal.

I think the sensors have been mounted in the wrong place for the trailer towing package, but they claim not.

Need feedback from people that have both the trailer towing package and hands free liftgate. How does your work. Reliable or not? What "activation zone" works on you vehicle?

Mine works just fine - I have the factory hitch receiver - so I just kick in, then out once - to either side of the receiver and the hatch opens every time. The activation zone is directly below either of the two middle parking sensors as your dealer mentioned.

Good luck in finding the fix - sorry I couldn't be more help in diagnosing the problem for you.

I don't have a hitch. Before I read the instructions I would wave my foot under the sensors and had limited success in making the hands free work. I learned that I had to kick under the door handle area and it worked fine. Are you able to make the sliding doors open okay?

It has to be a straight kick in and out. It will not work with any side to side motion or "waving" of the foot in the general area of the sensor. Once I got the hang of it, my success rate is darn near 100% for both tailgate and side doors.

I've had my L-Plus since Thanksgiving and 6,400 miles. Exact same rear problem that you're describing. Never taken the time to bring it to the dealer. Based on your experience with having it in twice, not sure I ever will, unless the van is going in for something else too.

Sounds to me like they didn't move your sensor to the right place. And I could see the bainiacs in the dealer's service department replacing the sensor and again putting in the wrong place - next to the hitch. I don't know if it's possible to see the sensor, but I'd look and mark where it is if you find it. But if it works when you kick near the hitch then you may have already found the sweet spot.

Are you "kicking" straight in and out? We have the towing package and as mentioned above the "sweet spot" is somewhere in the neighborhood of the parking sensor circles nearest the center on either side. 100% success rate.

I did stick my head under there to "see" where the sensor was but didn't notice anything, so I'm not sure where it is.

I fully agree. Now that I have some feedback from other owners I'm going back to the dealer and push them some more. Thanks much.

i don't have the tow package. I don't have trouble with hands free sliding doors, but most of the time i couldn't get the hands free power liftgate work! I only had the car for a month and it mostly stayed in the garage in the pandemic. i'll practice more and see whether there is a specific way works better.

we have a 2020 Pacifica Hybrid Limited for a little over a month. Similar issue with the Hands Free Lift Gate - i can get it to work about 10% of the time - dealer said its working (since they were able to get to open with 1 kick - it took me 5 kicks immediately after the dealers successful kick) - side doors work for me almost all of the time now but still have problem with the right kind of kick for rear hatch. wondering what i am doing wrong or it there are other conditions not being met - parked, off, doors locked, approached from behind with fob in right front pocket walk up to back kick straight in directly below handle on hatch foot is about 3" off ground under bumper - makes me feel like a fool
