Hi everyone, those that have the hands free kick to open sliding doors and tailgate.... does the kick movement also work to CLOSE the doors/trunk if hands are full of groceries? I don't remember reading anywhere if the kick was to open AND close.

Thanks

Ok thanks. I was just reading something on the 2018 Odyssey that says their kick to open (rear hatch only) also works for kick to close.

Would have been nice for the Pacifica to work both ways.

You should really try it before making this a buying point. It's kind of neat, but I was disappointed in the slow response time. Usually I end up reaching into my pocked and activating the trunk with the fob to have it open and ready by the time I get to the car. If you have a sleeping kid in your arms, then maybe this really would be something of value.

The response time is a little slow. If I'm walking up and can easily access the fob then I open the doors that way. If I'm walking up and I didn't plan ahead and have my hands full and my key stuck in my pocket then I kick to open and wait.

Overall I feel the feature is worthwhile and would have added it as an option if I didn't have a limited.

Once the door/liftgate is open, I think Chrysler felt that whatever you were carrying would be put into the car, and a simple button push would allow you to close the door. No need to activate it with your foot.

There's also the scenario where your hands are full unloading stuff from the vehicle too, and therefore unable to use the remote or push the button to close the doors. But there could be a safety issue with inadvertently closing the sliding doors/rear liftgate in a different scenario.

This is a reasonable scenario.

When my kids were babies, unloading the car seat (or more than one kid) and their stuff made it hard to close the sliding door... I would have to make sure I had the keyfob in hand to close.

In the future it will be mind controlled sliding doors. :)

I just looked at the manual and it says the hands free is for open AND close.

I'll verify later.

The manual I was looking at was online. I tried it but it didn't work for closing so o guess not.

When you're loading or unloading the vehicle, your feet are going to be around the area that triggers the sensor, so chances are pretty high that you would inadvertently trigger the door to close at some point, and if you're not prepared for it, it might just close on you.

Well, the manual actually says open and close....
You are correct sir, but the manual is wrong. ...unless for some reason my hybrid behaves differently than the gas models.

Don't have the 2017 manual, but the 2018 (both standard and hybrid versions) says "• Hands-Free Liftgate (opens liftgate only) — If Equipped". Must have been an error that they've corrected.
