Hi, they call me ezdays, mainly because my last name is Day, and I'm kind of an easy-going person. And, of course, these are suppose to be our easy days since we retired a few years back.

Anyway, we picked up our new Pacifica a few weeks ago, but not without incident. On the way home, we stalled and a while later we found the "check engine" light on, so less than 24 hours later, our new vehicle was back at the dealer. They found the problem quickly, a bad EGR valve, just that it took Chrysler some 10 days before they sent them the right replacement. In the meantime, the dealer went above and beyond to loan us a, yup. a 2017 Pacifica. Not only did they bring the car to our house, we live some 35 miles away from the dealer, but they also delivered our Pacifica when it was finally repaired. I'm impressed for sure.

Anyway, I do have some comments and questions that I'll post later on. But for now, a great big HI from us here in Arizona.:grin2:

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your new Pacifica. Sucks that you had an issue that left you stranded. That is my biggest concern with any car is being stranded. It doesn't matter if the car is the first year or the 7 year production things can happen and leave you and your family stranded. I much rather have the nit pick issues and no issues with windows, locks, engine and transmission. Glitches with uconnect, door sensor not working or something like that are minor problems to me vs my car not starting or driving along and it stalls or fails.

Again, welcome and congrats.

By the way, what configuration/model setup and color choices did you purchase on your pacifica? If you can please post some real world shots to the appropriate thread for your vehicle color.

Thanks for the welcome. We really didn't get stranded since the vehicle would start again. Not only that, but we had the salesman in the back seat. He was going home with us to pick up our trade-in, a 2014 T&C. It would continue to stall, but restart OK, so we were able to drive back to the dealer, even though it did stall every once in a while. As for color, this is the third Chrysler vehicle in a row, a Jeep Cherokee, a T&C and now the Pacifica, and all were the same dark red color. We chose that based on how if was equipped, but it's fun watching "our" van in all those commercials... it seems like that's the choice color for them all so far.

Welcome to the forum ezdays. I can see why Chrysler wants to keep us early purchasers happy but it seems like the factory should have sent an EGR overnight...10 days is just not acceptable.

Our Pacifica has been great so far - zero initial defects after almost a month. I agree with cue003 on the getting stranded issue. Post warranty I do most of my own repairs and I never lose faith in a car that fails in the driveway or limps home...but have one strand me or especially my wife on the side of the road a couple times and it's history, haha. We had a 2000 Chrysler (Plymouth Grand Voyager) and it needed work only a couple times during the 198,000 miles we owned it but IT NEVER STRANDED US, so we loved it and decided to buy this Pacifica.

EDIT: Ah I just saw your second post that your Pacifica limped back so, to me, it's still a forgivable failure. May all your future failures be limp home failures! haha

Just for the record,

  • The code showed a bad EGR valve, dealer tried to order one but was directed to contact Chrysler engineering.
  • Engineering told them to take a unit out of another vehicle and test it.
  • The dealer did and said it worked.
  • Engineering said to put the other good unit back and they'd send a new unit, but a few days later, all the dealer got was a kit with gaskets and seals.
  • Dealer installed the kit and performed all the checks, but no change, vehicle stalls and the check engine light stays on.
  • Dealer contacted engineering. Two days later, engineering asked if the dealer performed all the checks.
  • Dealer informed engineering that yes, they did perform all the checks.
  • Next day, engineering said they'd send a new unit.
  • Since it arrived on Saturday, the dealer installed the unit on Monday and I had the vehicle a few hours later.

Bear in mind, the dealer did all that Chrysler asked them to do, they also drove a new Pacifica loaner to my house and delivered our vehicle when it was ready. You can't ask for better customer service than that.

Congrats!!!!! I am on my 30th Chrysler van, still have my first one (1985 Caravan LE) and I am about to order the new Pacifica Limited with every option deleting the vacuum and getting the spare tire! I am waiting on a dealer here that ordered 3 Pacificas in the 'TUSK WHITE' color befoe I order one, I want to make sure I am gonna like what I order and receive especially for the 47K I will drop for the van.

I would say if you are worried about reliability (the 3.6 is a very reliable engine) and you are planning to keep for some time you need to look into an extended warranty through CHRYSLER, but not the high price that the selling dealer sells for......what ever you spent on the extended warranty, cancel it, I guarantee you can get the exact one or even what I got (the bumper to bumper lifetime) for less than what you paid that dealer. Same exact from Chrysler. A few others on my facebook minivan group cancelled what they bought and bought through the dealer that sells them at wholesale. I bought two from them and I know several others. I called Chrysler and they said this dealer sells so many they sell them at wholesale price...... check it out..... if you want then ask your selling dealer to match the price and I bet they will. Genuine Mopar Vehicle Protection Warranty - Save $$ Today

just ask a few in my Chrysler minivan groupas well.. I bought one for my 2014 (thinking I would keep it, I kept 12 months longer than people thought!) and I called and cancelled it and got 2400.00 back from the 2700.00 I spent for it, prorated as I know have 35K on my 2014. The Lifetime bumper to bumper for a 2017 Pacifica with 100 deductable is 2750.00, NOT BAD, especially when most dealers are gonna charge from 3400to 4500.00. So check it out, take it to your dealer and see if they will match the same price for the same exact warranty through Chrysler.

My facebook group will tell you it is worth it. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Chryslerminivans/
