Had the same problem with our 17 Limited. Dealer replaced hood and repainted all under warranty.

Pull out the warranty info, push them hard and don't take no for an answer.

Rust on a brand new car is completely unacceptable.

I have a 2017 Pacifica touring L and it too has bubbles on the hood. I took it to my local dealer and he sent pictures to Chrysler and he stated that Chrysler would not cover this! I don’t trust this dealer, and I did not purchase the vehicle through his dealership . I’m wondering what recourse I have if any to resolve this issue. I love my Pacifica and intend to keep it, so I don’t want to get rid of it over this issue!

Chief, Had the same issue on our 14 [email protected] the good news its not rust its corrosion, The bad news its like cancer and keeps growing. When I had our 14' getting fixed under warranty they had 3 pacificas for the same issue, They repaired ours only to have it come back 13 months later and Chysler was little help as it was over the 60k corrosion warranty and the 1 year body shop warranty. I would fight hard for a new hood or if they do repair it get something in writing that if it comes back they will fix it again, cause its going to come back. On a side note or C dealer is next to a ford dealer and they had just as many newer explorers getting hoods replaced (yep ford was just replacing them not fixing them) for the same corrosion issue.

Noticed the bubbling on our '17 limited right after purchasing it (used) and coming on these forums.... Took it to the body shop at Paulding Chrysler. They were amazing & VERY particular about their work. Replaced the hood straight away, and wash/wax/vacuum my whole van as part of the deal. They got the hood in, and painted it without the vehicle there. I was able to drive up and sit a few hours while they swapped things and cleaned it up. This is for THE BODY SHOP ONLY at Paulding. Cannot recommend the "regular" service shop at all.

How do I get this corrected?
Start by getting in touch with your dealer. Note that you have seen many reports here about the hood bubbling being covered by warranty. Then if they do not offer help, try contacting @ChryslerCares for help.

Hello Everyone,
Regarding the hood corrosion discussion, there was a TSB released last year that assists with addressing this concern. If you have any additional question please feel free to follow up with us privately.

I wonder what the real fix is... aside from repainting it all... and wonder if the corrosion issue will happen again after the repairs/repaint is done.

Here are some thoughts I had: The hood seal in the Pacifica doesn't seal all the way, thus allowing salt water spray to go inside the engine compartment. Salt water alone is probably not the issue, but then when you add engine heat, an the paint under the hood will eventually develop cracks after being cycled heat/cold over a period of time. The engine compartment in the Pacifica doesn't seem to have a heat shield either, or any sort of barrier to help the paint under the hood, so if the temps reach 275-300 F under the hood, the paint will certainly give over time, and once the paint develops cracks, the heat + salt + water will start the aluminum corrosion process through those cracks.

I wonder if sealing the hood and adding a good heat shield will help reduce this issue, at least for the under hood bubbling?

Given its aluminum, a better long term solution would be to hard anodize the aluminum...

Dealing with the same issue in Louisville, KY. Spoke with Chrysler Care and they said it's covered. Corrosion warranty is 5 years 100,000 miles. I've asked for a new hood but Chrysler will not replace hood unless body shop says it needs to be replaced. I've been told the entire hood will be sanded, some sort of corrosion inhibitor applied, then repainted. My fear is, as with most repaint jobs, they have to feather the paint job onto other panels, ie. quarter panels, to blend paint so no hard edges are visible. I really don't want a body shop sanding perfectly good paint from the quarter panels. I also fear the fix will only be temporary. Already reading where some have had repair done and more bubbling has reappeared. Chrysler Care admitted to me it's bad material but they will not replace entire hood! I'm currently waiting to hear back from Dealership. Stay tuned...
Thank you for this post. My Pacifica has 72,000 miles on it and I was really concerned that it would not be covered.

Dissapointed with the wording of the bulletin - specifically stated leading edge of the hood. I hope I don't get a hard time, mine is bubbling on the back edge by the windshield. I have an appointment tomorrow morning.
Of course - I also have the Mopar bug deflector on so maybe its corroding under there too. Hoping that because its an authentic accessory they don't try to blame that if it is corroded there.
