Hi,
I have a Limited. There are times when I get into the van and I hear three or four fast horn honks and a clicking noise inside. I think the lights on the display may flash also, but not sure.
Does anyone know what that is all about?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

I'm not quite familiar with the concern you're experiencing. Are there any conditions always present when you experience this (weather, cold start, etc.)? Has your Chrysler dealership tried to address this at all for you?

This has happened to us a few times as well.

Kori, you're in an important enough position that you should be able to get answers from an engineer or service tech. What can cause a rapid series of three beeps? There can't be many things that cause it. Three fast beeps is a specific behavior that is being done on purpose.

Thanks for any info you can find.

Are you accidentally using remote start.

Mine does this too if I remotely open the rear hatch then get inside the vehicle without explicitly pressing the unlock button. It's almost like the vehicle is trying to re-lock itself once the hatch closes but now senses the FOB inside the vehicle so refuses to lock and honks/flashes to let me know. If I follow the same procedure but unlock the van first this doesn't seem to happen.

This is very probable and sounds like something we would do. Best answer so far! Thanks for the input.
This is great that someone on the forum is able to help you identify the cause. That said, it is unfortunate that there is not an easy way to research "why am I getting 3 rapid horn honks". What good is a "message" from the computer if it is not listed somewhere to decode?

Once again, this is why I subscribe to forums like this. Communities like this are what makes the internet so useful.

Hi JPhi,

I'll make an inuqiry, and include what @hawkfan said as well to see if I can get a firm confirmation as to what is going on.

Thanks Kori. To ljnelson109's point above, there should be an easy way to look up an obvious code like this, so hopefully you can find where to look it up.

I could be wrong but I think 3 fast beeps just indicates that locking and unlocking method was not what was expected. If this happens again I would try to recall how the vehicle was locked, and unlocked, either fob, outside button or inside door lock. Very much like the lift gate scenario.

I have had the 3 beeps once and I don't recall the exact occurrence, but it was do to my son opening the drivers side slide door.

Did you ever get an answer?

.

I was able to narrow it down to what jhopster described. It happens when I open the rear gate while all doors are locked, then I open the drivers door and then close the rear gate. Closing the gate wants to re-lock the doors, but since the drivers door is open, it can't and complains with the beeps.

Thanks. Seems strange that it would do that since when you grab the door handle it unlocks the whole car

Edit: OK, it does it only if I manage to close the drivers door before the hatch closes all the way

Hi Mo Pho,

I'm sorry, I did not get an answer as to what may be causing this to occur. The best I can advise at this point is to go over it with the dealership and have them perform more thorough diagnostics to look for the root cause.
