Is it normal to see exposed copper in a connector?

2018 Pacifica, open the glove box all the way like you want to replace the cabin filter... then I looked up on the right see red arrow below

Please tell me this is not normal and I am not crazy.

Yes a have a sporadic issue with ACC, FCW, ESC codes C2227-00, U148D-00, U0145-00, C0064-54, C2222-68, U0432, U0418, U0418-00 and U0415-00, but I will post in another thread the details tomorrow, it`s bed time now.

PS: I was a BMW developer and now I am a BMW quality eng/test driver, to me this need to be fixed, regardless if it is working or not... just want to know if I am the only one to have this or not.

It doesn't look like copper, and it does look like a ground. That's from looks only. I'll do a physical check on mine tomorrow.

What did you develop at bmw before you started driving?
Hard to see, but it looks like a shielded cable, if this is the case, the naked shield wire is acceptable.

Does anyone have a schematic for that plug?
It might be perfect as a switched 12v for dash cam etc.
It's placed right where it could be useful.

The device in your picture is the Central Vision Processing Module. The bare wires you're seeing are normal. It serves as a shield for the camera signal between this module (terminal 6 in connector C1) and the radio (terminal 33 in connector C1) according to the diagram below. "NCA" is short for No Color Available which means the wire has no insulation on it.

TSB # 18-001-19 Rev.C lists most of those DTCs and states that a PCM update is available for 2018 models to address this issue. Our van's PCM was flashed under warranty a few years ago because I was seeing most of the same codes. They never came back after the update was flashed. FYI this update will be performed on your dime unless your van is still under warranty. I'm pretty sure it would be covered under the 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warrranty, but you should check with a dealership to be sure.

I don't think it's normal.

Worthy hijack.
Will those signals split into a dvr?
The camera on my RV didn't split well and degraded the pic(I know not of potential enhancement software/hardware)
If they split it seems plug-in DVR sales/manufacture might be a good side-gig for someone talented....
I'll be first in line to buy one....
It serves as a shield for the camera signal between this module
They should at least put a heat shrink to make it decent. I would paid 1$ to 10$ more to have that connector upgraded to something more reliable and robust. Oh well....

Interesting, those DTC only shows up at startup and they stay for the entire clamp cycle but not always.
Sometimes (I would say 40%, but it is getting worst) the car starts clean with no error and stays with no error until the next clamp change where it could fail again with the exact same DTCs.
I accept the PCM update you suggested as fix, but what I can`t explain the the front camera DTC U148D-00 DTC.
The PCM and the front camera should be two unrelated system.
Maybe there is a plug with the front camera and PCM connection on it and it is not fully seated and making intermittent contact? Unlikely.

Many many thanks! If you ever have problem with BMW let me know.

What did you develop at bmw before you started driving?
TPMS for 6 years and then DSC for 2. Now I am a specialist test driver for self driving system.

Update, the next day the car would not start... VBat = 12.0V ups... I charged overnight.
The next morning it started up but there was some check control lights... Decided to go for a test drive.
At the red light the start stop (which previously was constantly in state "unavailable battery charging") automatic kicked in (probably the voltage was high enough to let it happen) and the entire car went black, everything turned off.
It was enough to declare both batteries main and AUX14 dead.
400$ later I had in my hands AGM Platinum new batteries.
Installed and everything is back to normal. Even the above problem is gone.

It is disturbing to me that not even a single code was pointing to a low voltage o bad battery. In BMWs for such a condition there is a low voltage code almost in all ECUs.
