Yesterday, the sales rep was showing me some of the features on the Limited. One was the indicator that tells you it's time to change the oil. I asked him if the owner can control that feature (and chime after 5,000 miles, 7,000 miles, etc). He said he didn't know. Then during the obligatory "Hey - I want you to meet my sales manager" salutations (what the heck is that pain for??), I asked the SM. He also didn't know and implied that the car knows better than I do when to change the oil, so don't worry about it.

I searched the owner's manual and no mention is made of the owner being able to set the interval. It appears that it is out of the hands of the consumer. The manual also implies that once it trips, it chimes every time you start the vehicle until you get it done OR until you do your own reset.

Is it true that you can't set the interval? What happens if you do the reset after it chimes? Does it chime again in a few miles/days or does it wait an entire new cycle?

Seems useless if I can't control it!

oil change indicator

I prefer to use the per cent one instead when it gets down to maybe 20 percent or so I change the oil.The reason I prefer it is my 2013 town and country did not have this and it alwayes annoyed me when I was going on a trip and wasnt sure if I should change oil or not as I didnt want to be on the road and have to change my oil.

I'm ignoring the system alert (as it will never come-on for me) since I plan on sticking to the "every-5,000-miles" approach to oil changes.
Just remember to reset it when you change your oil to ensure it doesn't come on.

Hi CenTex. The oil change percentage indicator is dynamic and will vary based on type of driving that you do. If you do more city driving for example, the percentage will go down faster. So in a way, it is intelligent. Hope that helps. We do very short distance city driving on all our vehicles so we either change oil when the interval gets low (below 20%) or 12 months have gone by.

I too have always changed my oil,& filter at 5000 miles. I live in South Florida where it is flat,& the weather stays the same year round. Very easy on an engine. I also use Wix oil filters. I think they are the best!:D
