Bought the pacifica 5 weeks ago. my keyfob was working fine until this weekend when my husband started driving the car. Now the car keeps saying "keyfob not detected" only in relation to my keyfob. Doors wont open and car doesn't see it. The car will start if i engage it with the ignition otherwise it doesn't see it. The battery seems to be working fine since it will engage when i push on the ignition with it. does my keyfob need to be reprogrammed or something. any one with similar issues.

Sounds like the battery in your keyfob is dead or has come loose. The reason it works when you push it against the ignition button is that the fob has an RFID chip in it that doesn't require power. This is so that you can start the car even if the battery dies.

Hi Johnr12345,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page and let me know.

Yep...I second what generaltso said. We actually removed the two CR2032 batteries from my keyFOB and it behaved exactly as you describe. Batteries can easily deplete if a button gets mashed for a few hours. Tease hubby and tell him to stop sitting on it, haha! If new batteries don't correct then have Chrysler replace the keyFOB under warranty. BTW - The transponder module that your keyFOB communicates with is located up high inside the floor console between the front seats just inches away from the keyFOB when carried in driver's right pocket.

keyfob

Mine did this from the factory replaced both keyfob batteries and it didnt make any difference so went to dealer and they replaced the rf antenna and this fixed the problem. It was very annoying mine would not un lock the van unless I was very close to it. Works nice now for 6 months or so.

If both fobs aren't working, it very likely the van and not the fobs. Most dealers don't stock many parts for the Pacifica, so any parts would need to be ordered. If you have a good dealer, they may be willing to take parts from a new Pacifica on their lot so you don't have to make multiple trips.

Even though I have made similar statements on this very forum like that...I've recently had my mind expanded by a Chrysler insider that this might be the signature of a VERY BAD dealer. Good existing customer support perhaps but they are just making things far worse for downstream customers. I would never buy that "new" vehicle if I thought they had used it for doner parts and then repaired.

Recalls and parts tracking is tied to VIN number. "Off the grid" swapping of parts between vehicles of different VINs (especially on first model year builds) confuses things beyond imagination. You often read on this forum "they checked my VIN number and said I do (or don't) need a particular software upgrade" highlights the problem.

Ezdays had a bad EGR valve on his original drive home. As I recall, the dealer swapped with another Pacifica but Chrysler told his dealer to put it back on the original Pacifica. Don had to wait for the new part. Irritating for Don, no doubt, but better for everyone else.

Maybe they do record such swaps by VIN number in cases like that? Maybe it depends on the part. Or maybe they don't and it could cause issues for a future owner. I don't have any idea. I do see your point, but I can tell you that I was pretty thrilled when my dealer replaced my VRM with one on the lot.

I'm of like mind with you. I'm usually the guy saying "swap it" and did so the other day about someone's "#2 cylinder misfire" problem. I just got PM'd by engineering on another forum about why I wasn't giving good advice. Oops!

Anyway, it sounds like you have established very good rapport with your dealer!

I'd still take it in. There may be some codes that they can pull to see what happened.
