We made a deal on a Red Velvet Limited last weekend - intending on picking it up Friday of this week.

The dealer just called and said they are having a hard time securing the Red color (black / diesel interior) ... the other dealers in the surrounding area don't want to give them up - so that must be a mighty popular color!

He's now looking for a black one - which I know will be sharp too ... I've had a black vehicle for the past 5 years and was ready for a change ... ah well ... !! (They sure are pretty when they are clean - LOL!)

I really don't want to go to any other colors so am hoping he can figure something out!! 3rd grandbaby isn't due until August, so if nothing else, I guess we wait for the 2018 to come out and see what they have to offer!

Why not just call one of the dealers in the surrounding area that has the red one that you want?

The dealers that are "local" are not interested in taking my Audi Q5 with a Takata air bag in on trade:frown2:
What? I've never heard of a dealer denying a trade unless it's an old clunker.

My Audi is in great condition ... 65K miles and has always been kept in the garage ... had all scheduled maintenance done and all recalls done promptly. I always have rugs on the floor - so it really looks like new on the inside and out ... no clunker for sure! :)

I called three dealers in our area (we live in RURAL Northern IL) and they all came right out and said they didn't want to "deal" with the air bag recall since Audi has no firm date when it will be fixed. Honestly, I was shocked when I called the last dealership and they didn't even hesitate!

Just another reason I *dislike* Audi so much at the moment ... (on top of the poor dealership I've dealt with since 2011 - and the # of recalls the vehicle has had)

sorry to hear about your situation. We bought the same color Limited from Boucher in Janesville. You might try them. Hope you find what you are looking for. By the way, when the sun is shining on the car, the red is really beautiful.

@bknute - thanks for the info on Janesville ... I bet the red IS pretty when the sun shines (like today! - but BRRRR)!

Got a text from the dealer - they've located a black one with black interior and the options we want - I'm okay with black too ... now waiting to hear if they can scramble and get it here by Friday - if not, that's okay - it just means one more week of not having a car payment ... :)

Maybe a private sale would be a better option? There are so many millions of cars out there with takata airbags that I'm really surprised any dealer could be that picky about it. If the parts aren't available for the recall yet, they don't have to fix anything. They would just resell it, so what do they care?

After being told by a dealership last year that they "couldn't" take my car in trade I 'ass'umed that was gospel. Turns out it was for the better anyways, because at that time I was looking @ a Cadillac SUV ... and now, 6 months later, needing a more 'family-friendly' vehicle  ...

Hubs and I often discussed that there had to be a lot of unhappy customers not able to trade their vehicle in with Takata air bags ... turns out we were just going to the wrong dealerships. Believe you me, I will not visit the 3 dealers that turned us down ever again. One of them is just down the road from us too - too bad - so much for "shopping local".

If push came to shove I might have considered selling it outright - but - I think we're on the right path now ... !

You should get the color you want. You want red? Then get red! You'll find a way to make it happen. For a while I was stuck with silver cars, as they didn't have my preferred color in stock. I should have just waited and taken the time to shop around.
Right now I'm torn between the red and blue Pacifica Hybrid. I'll wait to see them both at the dealership hopefully in late April or May.

Hubs was more about wanting the Red Velvet one than I was ... I really think the black looks sharp ... and in our household - it's happy wife - happy life ... so ... LOL! ;)

The dealership found a black one - with a spare tire rather than the vacuum. Being OCD the way I am with my vehicles I was looking forward to having the on board vacuum, but I think it makes more practical sense to have a spare (not that I would know how to use it).

Anyways, one step closer - will either pick it up later tomorrow or Tuesday or Wednesday next week - depends how bad Chicago traffic is going to get it later today / early tomorrow ... hurry up and wait!:grin2:

If you want the vac, then get one with a vac! You can always add a spare tire to one of the stow-n-go wells and have the best of both worlds. The best way to avoid buyers remorse is to get exactly what you want the first time!

I'm good - really I am!!! I don't think I'll have any buyer's remorse whatsoever! So hubs isn't getting Red Velvet and I'm not getting the vacuum ... give and take! LOL! We truly aren't THAT finicky ... I know no matter what - it will be a sharp looking vehicle with LOTS of space and lots of fun stuff to boot!

I think the main drag down has been the black interior option - we were told that they've just recently started coming out with black/diesel interior colors and they must be in high demand - I really think the dealership has been working on this since Saturday - said there was only 1 red velvet w/ black interior in a 300 mile radius - and that dealership didn't want to give it up) - thus the reason we're going with black - which he said there were 2 of within 300 miles. - I'm just tickled that they've tracked one down - Call me impatient, but I'm ready to make a change! Driving the Audi with the Takata air bag has made me twitchy for several months ...
