I've been searching and can't find a similar issue on the forums, but maybe I'm using the wrong descriptors...

Most of the time when going over bumps, the van make a popping noise, or a clunk. It's hard to describe. It is not a rattle or metal hitting metal. It is more like the popping noise you can get pushing on a curved metal lid or something similar. The dealership said it was common to newer minivans that use magnesium for light-weighting, but I don't see anything like that online.

Let me know if you have the same issue - or if their is a post already on this somewhere.

Thanks!

Hi AstroEng,

I'm not familiar with this particular type of noise and whether it is normal, but the next time you're scheduled at the dealership for a service visit, let us know and we'd be happy to reach out to the dealership to get more information.

Same here

I also have the same loud clunk noise in my 2017. it only happens when going over speed bump at very slow speed. it only seems to happen on the drivers side. I had the same issue with 2008 Town and Country. I was told then that it was typical and normal of MacPherson Struts.
Doesn't bother me since it happens rarely.

For me, it happens on various bumps at pretty much any speed. From what I've read on struts, it sounds unlikely... It worries me that I'm not seeing this issue with anyone but 504.

I need to do the inverter recall repair. I'll bring it up to the dealer then...

Good morning AstroEng!

I have heard a noise similar to what you are describing. It sounds like a stone being thrown up into a metal wheel well (although I am certain this is not the cause of the sound.) For me, it has only happened randomly and usually at low speed so I haven't been able to determine what is causing it. Interesting thread though!

Mine is doing the same thing in the front driver side wheel area. At first I thought that maybe the pressure sensor in the front wheel was causing it, but I am not sure. Would the front suspension be covered under the drive train warranty?

Has anyone been successful in figuring out what is causing this popping noise? My wife and I just bought a 2018 Pacifica and with less than 100 miles and the first day of owning it, we have been experiencing this exact noise every time we turn into our driveway and also intermittently on turns. It is mainly happening on the passenger side though. We love the van otherwise, but aren't too happy about issues from day one.

Thanks Darlene for letting me know it totally slipped my mind. I can't believe I did that as I belong to several other forums with 1000+ posts and this isn't my first time posting. My head isn't all here today obviously. My post has been edited and I will pm you my info. Thanks again!

@kbaker41 did they find what was causing the noise?
They were able to recreate the issue(at least they told us they could) and ended up replacing a bad axle shaft (front) on both sides. We retook possession of our van yesterday and are still able to recreate the issue consistently. It was in the shop for almost a full week.

Here is the breakdown of the issues they found:
-shaft-axle half both sides
-lock nut-hex flange lock
-front hub nuts were over torqued from factory and replaced.

Darlene, in case you see this, I am contacting the rep you assigned to me on Monday to let her know about this. We appreciate your help thus far.

That same day we took the van back, it recreated the issue consistently. We just got it back from another week in service (2 weeks total so far) and it hasn't recreated the issue. They replaced the lower control arms. Hopefully that was it and it takes care of it.

I have the same pop sound when I turn my steering wheel, driver's side. It started about 14,000 miles and was very intermittent. Now it occurs every time. To recreate the sound, I must turn the steering wheel to the left and reverse the car. Pop sound (twice) is noticed. I put the car in drive and move fwd. Same sound is heard.

Now if I do a normal turn moving fwd, right or left, there is no sound. The van has to go in reverse first.

Going in June 29th for the recall on CC, looking at the lift gate alarm going off when using the latch, and this pop sound.

That's exactly the same issue we have. Van is at the dealer currently. I'll update with what they did to fix it.

Thank you. I explained the complaint and the service guy never heard of the alarm going off when opening latch... But didn't say anything about the pop sound. I assume they have experience with that. I'll still send you a PM as soon as I get my VIN.

This is the tsb they applied @Gohawks1224. Wife states clicking/popping sound is gone. My concern is it's been making the clicking sound for 10k miles now. If they had to lube the heck out of the suspect bearings, were they getting excessive wear before hand??? Glad I have the lifetime warranty.
