Did anyone else get a payment offer emailed to them yesterday to cancel their maxcare lifetime warranty? It seems the bean counters have determined having these warranties out there are not in their best interest.

At first I chalked it up to them just wanting me to buy a new vehicle, but then I kept reading and saw where they are offering a $2,500 direct payment even if I don’t buy a new vehicle. I just moved into the extended warranty period on my 2018 Gas Limited last September so I’m not interested in their offer. Below is the text off the email I got.

And here’s the fine print from the bottom of the offer.

1. Exclusive $3,000 Bonus Cash Allowance is valid toward the purchase or lease of all eligible new and unused 2019 through 2021 Model Years FCA vehicles (each an “Eligible Vehicle”). Customer must present this certificate and take retail delivery of an Eligible Vehicle from participating franchised U.S. FCA US LLC dealer (“Dealer”) by March 31, 2021. The Bonus Cash Allowance offer is not available to the general public. Certificate is valid for the person named on certificate. Certificate may be transferable to immediate family members within the same household; see Dealer for details. At time of purchase or lease transaction, Bonus Cash Allowance bonus program requires the following without exception: (i) person named on certificate authorizes Dealer to submit to FCA the person’s request to immediately cancel the MVP vehicle service contract and process the unearned premium refund, and (ii) FCA to issue within twenty (20) days thereafter the refund separately and directly to person named on certificate. If original certificate is lost, a Dealer can verify customer eligibility on DealerCONNECT or by calling the FCA Incentives Assistance Center. Offer not redeemable on a purchase/lease made prior to receiving this mailing. $3,000 Bonus Cash Allowance is nonnegotiable and not redeemable for cash. See Dealer for details. Program ID: 43CMZ

2. Exclusive $2,500 Cashback Check offer requires the following without exception: (i) person named on certificate calls 800-521-9922 and provides written request that FCA immediately cancel the MVP vehicle service contract and process the unearned premium refund, and (ii) FCA to issue within twenty (20) days thereafter the refund and the cashback check separately and directly to person named on certificate.

Yep, received the offer a few months ago via USPS. I ignored it, but can see how someone who has been severely impacted by the pandemic might find it very helpful.

Should be an indicator of the times if a company is trying to get out of a warranty contract.

There are an economic meltdown and hyperinflation on the horizon. I am extremely glad I went with the choice of a PHEV.

I just got this today. It was pointed out in this Facebook thread that the refund is prorated. The warranty doc states that the pro-rata calculation is based on 7 years/100k miles, so if you have a 2017 Pachy then you get about a 50% refund + $2500 (or +$3000).

I see this as a two-pronged sales tactic. From what I've been reading I think 2020 has been a hard year on auto manufacturers. Besides, I'm pretty sure this time of year is slow for car sales.

First, there's the "ooh free money!" factor to try and entice you buy a new vehicle.

The second is a bit more subtle (and, if I may, slightly insidious): the offer plants the seed of doubt in your mind as to the reliability of the vehicle you currently own. Based on your first post, I think this tactic had it's intended effect since it led you to to wonder if Chrysler is losing money on these extended warranties due to lack of reliability.

I think Ford also offers this warranty but they come with stipulations . The owner @ 5 yrs must have it inspected by a fca dealer and is non transferable . And off the top of my head there is 4 different levels with varing deductibles .
