I just received my license plates and easily mounted the rear one. I am in California, and the state requires front license plates on all vehicles. I understand the law, but I am unsure of where/how to mount it. It seems like it would cover up the front camera sensor in the center of the grill. My dealer said that they could mount it for me, but I was just curious if anyone else has done so. If you have a picture of where you mounted it, I can probably do it myself (and save a trip to the dealer). My Pacifica came with a grey plastic license frame holder that is for front mounting. According to the directions I have to drill holes in my grill:confused:. to install it. The lines of the front are so beautiful that I am bummed to have to deface it with a plate.
Thanks for any tips or pointers you may have.

My dealer pre-mounted a front license plate holder for me. Here's what that looked like before my plates came in.
Thank you! I see now that it still looks great! I think that I will let the dealer install it for me as they offered. I'm handy, but I don't want to screw it up.

If the dealer is in a state the requires front license plates, they should have mounted the bracket before they sold you the vehicle. Definitely bring it back and let them do it.

I still haven't seen any other Pacificas in my area so I don't know if I would have liked it mounted higher than they did mine. The way mine is mounted only upper license plate holder screws could be used (the lower holes are dangling). 50% higher and perhaps they could have used all four screws. Since they mounted it lower, I'm glad they at least centered it up and down on the chrome.

I think it looks perfect where it is. If it was higher up, it would interfere more with the lines of the car (IMHO). Having it centered up and down on the chrome just looks "right".

As an aside, I've noticed quite a few cars (new and old), and usually of the high end luxury type with no front license plates driving around my area. Interesting. I never paid attention to this before. Funny all the things you start noticing when you get a new car!

Arizona only has one plate except for specials, then there are two. We have a personalized plate (look at my avatar), and I had to mount my front holder. There was an instruction sheet with the holder as to where to mount it and where the drilling dimples were located. It took all of ten minutes to do. We have the Touring-L, so there's no front cameras or sensors to deal with.

I love your personalized plates! Arizona also has some of the most attractive plates. It sounds like you received the same gray plastic plate holder with instructions that I was given.

ezdays - I assumed you photoshopped that picture. Looking good!
Had to do that to get rid of the vehicle it was attached to. Here is a story that was printed in the Arizona Republic paper a few years ago when they were featuring different personalized plates. This is also a shot of if on my Pacifica. There is a slight difference, about a year ago the paint all peeled off the old plate and they had to issue me a new one without spaces between any letters.

Very nice write up, Donald! I used to get out to Pheonix from time to time in the 80s on business to Motorola and because my big brother lived there and especially for the great Mexican food, a little different than our TexMex here. I've always thought that Arizona plates are among the nicest looking plates in the country. One of these days I might get custom plates with my HAM license but Texas plates just don't look as cool as yours.

Thanks guys, up until about 10 years ago, Arizona had bland-looking plates and only changed the background color every few years. I think we can give credit to some really sharp salesperson that has just about every state now using decorative backgrounds on their plates. Talk about special plates though, Arizona has some 60 different plate backgrounds honoring everything from the vets to our schools to whatever special interest some group is willing to pay to get a new plate on the list.

Speaking of Motorola, I spent a good eight years working for them here, once the largest employer in the area, they don't even have a presence here now.

Out of all the cars I have owned, NO WAY would I mount a front plate. Every time I buy a new car the dealers here know that it better not have holes in the front bumper cover. I have several classic cars and here in Texas even though we are a 2 plate state.......when you register your vehicle as a classic, you get one plate....why???? Cause a front plate takes away from a car! So, out of 89 vehicles I have owned (trade the dailys 1X a yr and flipped many and buy classics for retirement) I do not ever mount a front plate on a car. Never had any issues with the law either, 3X when getting a speeding ticket, they would mention "you know you need to have a front plate and my response is, would you put a front plate on a car like this? Sorry for the rant, it is just a subject that I get all worked up about.

I hate front plates too. Luckily, Indiana is very friendly to car enthusiasts. No front plate to display, no emissions testing, no vehicle inspections, and never been busted for tint!!!

Not much of a choice in Vermont. They're strict about it and are not shy about giving tickets. There was a movement a few years ago to remove the requirement for front plates, but too many law enforcement agencies opposed it. As a compromise, they removed the requirement to put a registration sticker on the front plate. As if that helps anyone!

Your dealer GAVE you holders??? Wow! I got NOTHING

I just got my Pacifica Limited 3 weeks ago in Houston. My dealer gave me NOTHING. Didn't offer to do anything (except take me to the cleaners). I custom ordered it in Nov. and just got it. I don't ever want to see the dealer again.

Picked up my Touring L at Stoneridge Chrysler in Pleasanton, Ca last May 2016, and they installed there plate holders. Did not like the dealer name on the frames, so I purchased a plain black plastic frame for the front, and used no frame on the rear. In the SF Bay Area you better have a front plate or you will get tickets in many cities, where you have to not only pay, but then have to show the police it has been fixed!

I've been driving around the bay area for 3 years with no front plate, and 9 years before that in LA. Front plate mount came off the pacifica yesterday :nerd:
