Hi everyone!

This is my first winter with my Pacifica Touring L and my climate control is acting very strangely. When the cabin is heating up, the heat coming from the vents is blisteringly hot. When the cabin warms up, the heat seems to abruptly stop and cold air emanates from the vents. It gets so cold, that I have to increase the temperature to get some heat to come out again, and then it comes out too hot again. This happens both in Auto and in Defrost mode. Back in the day (before electronic controls), one would moderate the temperature coming out of the vents by turning down the heat slightly when the cabin warmed up... not off completely! It seems to be a flaw in the programming .... anyone have any ideas?

What temperature do you have it set for? Are driver and passenger temps the same or similar? Is the van cabin really cold when the heater is started?

I don't know if this will help, but until you are able to get an appointment to get it checked, you can try some of these things:
Turn the heat all the way up (I think it goes to 82 or 84) on manual and then back down to normal (maybe 76) for heat. You should be able to use the up and down arrows to change the temperature to the degree you desire. It seems like I have the temperature set at 76 for heat in winter to normally blow warm air. It probably depends on the outside temperature and cabin temperature when you start the van.

Try the different modes for air vents by using the touchscreen under the climate app or pushing the manual climate button that is also used to increase fan speed.
If you turn the Auto button off by pressing it and don't press the defrost button on, then I think you will have manual heat.

I asked the dealer about my heater problem when I took it in for another concern, but when I got the van back the paper said something different than I thought I had explained and that the heater/ac were considered to be operating as they should. The other concern was taken care of and my heating issue isn't extreme, so I will try again later to get the auto heat working better.

I still think that something isn't quite right with the heating system in my van, but I have concluded the following:
Auto heat directs the air to my feet and doesn't seem to really give me what I want for heating so I usually manually adjust the heat.
If I want my hands warmed up at the steering wheel, then I put the heat on upper and lower vents since I don't have a heated steering wheel.
I adjust the temperature and fan speed manually as needed.

Sorry that I probably didn't help much. I agree that the programming can use some work. Maybe some others can offer some help.

Thank you for the quick response. First off, let me congratulate Chrysler on this magnificent vehicle! You folks have hit it out of the park with the Pacifica. I love it!!

I took my van into the local dealer with this problem (along with another that I will detail in my PM) and they told me that the climate control system is operating normally. I find this impossible to believe. Today, while driving the same thing happened. The heat blasted out at an extremely high temperature (54 degrees C according to the dealer) until the cabin reached the setpoint. Then, the temperature of the air from the vents moderated to be just warm enough to maintain the cabin temp. at setpoint (which is proper) but then it seems like the heat stopped altogether and cold air was being blown from the vents. My face, hands and feet were feeling quite cold and then like magic, after about 10 minutes of cold air, the air started to warm again to a moderate temperature. I had the controls set to "Defrost" because "Auto" didn't blow enough air to keep the windows defogged.

Anyway, I will send you a PM with my VIN. Hopefully, you have a fix for this because it is untenable at the moment.

Thank you for your suggestions. A lot of the time I prefer manual control of the heating system because most of the time (up here in Ontario, Canada) I need the defroster on in the winter. Everything will be going well until the heat seems to just stop and the fan blows cold air. This can't be right. After seeing all the brilliant design features of this van, I can't believe that Chrysler engineers would make a mistake like this on something as fundamental as the heating system. A further observation... I was driving in the rain a couple of months ago and had the defroster on to keep the windows clear. It is my understanding that the A/C unit is always supposed to run when the defroster is selected. This does not appear to be the case... the windows would start fogging up and required manual intervention to stop a complete fog over. I always keep my air intake on Fresh air, so this behaviour is rather unexpected.

Van temp

having same problem with Heating System, Blowing cold air, the Rear Vents seem to work fine. On my old T.C. I could see on the dash were the Sensors for Auto where but don't see on 2017 Pacifica. Any ideas anyone?

The trick to know in our 2017 Pacifica is to depress the Front Defrost whenever the Climate Control is on Auto and yet things don't seam to stay warm enough. All of a sudden once that Defrost is depressed it is like a sauna.

Similar in 2018. Auto doesn't seem to keep the windshield defrosted in the winter driving. But then on Defrost the heat continues to build up, and I find myself dropping back a degree at a time over an hour.

Passenger side on low and 75 on drivers side. Cannot turn off defrost. Only responds to a couple of commands on the screen. I cannot adjust the temperature. The rear climate is off and I cannot turn on. No problems before today. Rained last night and went below 30 last night.

I have a 2017 Pacifica and the climate control is not responding. It is in auto mode and I cannot turn off. The a/c is on and I cannot turn off or adjust to the heat I want heat. Passenger side on low and 75 on drivers side. Cannot turn off defrost. Only responds to a couple of commands on the screen. I cannot adjust the temperature. The rear climate is off and I cannot turn on. No problems before today. Rained last night and went below 30 last night.
If you mention your trim level it might also help, but I assume all the 2017+ Pacificas have the hard heat/ac buttons below the screen. Are you having problems with the climate touchscreen, hard buttons, or both?

Push the "Off" button near the center of the heat/ac control buttons to turn off the AC/Heat. Arrow buttons should work to increase/decrease the temperature.
If none of the hard control buttons do anything to help your situation, you will probably have to let the dealer look at the van which is why @ChryslerCares offered for you to private message them for assistance in working with a dealer. Sometimes @ChryslerCares can offer a TSB or give you a case number. Click on @ChryslerCares and start a conversation to private message them with your VIN.
Don't put your VIN in a post on the forum.

Other things that you could try if you don't want to take the van in, but I'm not sure if they would help:
You can check the System Info in the touchscreen under UApps, Settings to see if you have the latest UConnect update 18.45.01. If not, it can be updated at home with a computer and USB stick.
You can try checking the fuses (or even resetting them) since that is something people on the forum suggest when there is a problem. I haven't done anything with fuses, but maybe someone else will have a better suggestion for you.

Unfortunately, we did not find any Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that appeared to address concerns similar to the symptoms that you are having with your vehicle. As our team is not technically trained we do rely on the dealers to be our eyes and ears in the field. @Elvira see if you can get the temperature on both sides to be a similar temperature such as 78 so that you get heat. "Low" on one side will probably get you AC unless you live in a very cold climate.
