I have a 2017 Pacifica with 35,600 miles. Having the same issue that I have read a lot about. When I go to accelerate it seems to stop and stick and then jerk forward. One time it was so bad I though we had gotten hit from behind and it scared my kids really badly. Took it to the dealership and a mechanic. The dealership the first time said it was an update and took care of it. It happened again. Took it in again and they said nothing is wrong with it, sorry can't help you. They said it was because of how I drive and that the transmission is responding to my driving. The mechanic recommended seeing the dealership.

Here is my question to those of you who have had this...do I get rid of it and cut my losses? Looking at getting a 2019 Pacifica or even just getting a brand new car period. We are driving to Florida and I am very concerned about the safety of my family if it cuts out in the hills of Tennessee when I am trying to get up them. I welcome your thoughts!

I have a '17 that we ran into a similar issue with the transmission shifting very abruptly at times. My dealer ended up replacing the transmission after their mechanic said they found metal shavings in the fluid. May want to see if they ever checked the fluid for evidence of abnormal wear like that before your warranty expires. I can try to find the work order with their notes on it tonight and update this posting.

Hello KristyLynn12,

We're sorry to hear you've been having such a tough time with your Pacifica. If you do go back into the dealer or get a second opinion, let us know. We're available via direct message and will escalate your inquiry to a case specialist who'll help that dealer toward a solution.

If you are not coming to a FULL stop at intersections, it is not dropping into first. When you try to accelerate, it bangs down into first and then goes. Are you stopping fully at intersections?
Yes, this is after coming to a complete stop. It happens after I have been sitting at a stop light and sometimes when I try and accelerate after being at a slower speed. It happened last week when I was pulling out of a parking lot and went to get up to 35 mph and it cut out and jerked forward.

Here are a few posts from transmission threads that might help. My van had the transmission adaptations reset twice. So far it is doing fine, but I won't be surprised if it needs done again someday.

There is a recall for a potentially bad ground have you taken care of all the recalls.

Having the same issue it’s absolutely ridiculous. I feel like I’m being rear ended multiple times a day. Check engine light went on 2 weeks ago when it jerked then wouldn’t accelerate. They told me there replacing a part but can’t get it til end of June (like what, seriously?).they told me it its safe to drive then today it wouldn’t even start. I’m so furious I’ve spent a single penny on this car. Chrysler needs to fix this transmission issue, I have 2 friends with the same car and the exact same problem. I am even more angry that now we want to get rid of the car because we don’t trust driving it and have to even consider loosing the money we’ve paid on it for 2 years. I thought we’d have it for at least 5 but I don’t want it another minute.

Welcome to the forum. If you put your van info (year, trim, gas/hybrid, etc.) in the signature line of the UserCP it helps us answer questions.

My 2017 van has 37,000 miles.
Clearing transmission adaptations helped the jerking. See earlier post in thread for links.
I had a code for a evap leak, but that didn't really affect the driving and the part was replaced. (Evap leak might pollute a little bit more from what I understand.)
It is possible that the not starting issue is the battery. No warning that there was an issue with the battery when it didn't start. The second main battery I've had was only 4 months old (probably old battery on shelf). The original battery lasted 28 months and was replaced before totally failing since some codes indicated a problem with it when I was in for the evap leak problem.

Old transmission TSB that might help some vans:

I have had the same problem when slowing accelerating from 10 to 15 mph when it must be trying to switch gears. I am calling the dealership in the morning to see what can be done.

Take a copy of this post with you. It might give them ideas of the ways to fix and to submit repair under warranty.

Taking copies of other info from the forum might also help since it is too easy for the dealer to say that it can't be replicated or that's normal. Be courteous but insistent that the problem needs fixed or an attempt be made to resolve the problem. Good luck.

Hello sp33dypacifica,

Were you able to connect with your dealer to schedule a visit? If any assistance is needed with that process, please don't hesitate to connect with our team via direct message.
