Hi all,

I was able to find a '21 PacHy Touring L in Ceramic Gray with S Appearance Package/UConnect Theater Family Group/Premium and Safety Sphere Group, with 6 miles on July 28th. We were ready to go to the dealership (1.5hrs away) to sign the paperwork and pickup the Pacifica but I got a text that afternoon from my salesperson and was told the Pacifica was being diagnosed. I was like, "What? Why?". Apparently the charging system was not working, throwing an error "Service charging system" or something like that (from what I have seen here on the forums to be a common error for the newer PacHy). The dealer had a Chrysler Engineer come out the following Tuesday 8/3/21. The report back is that the wire(s) from the charging port to the module/battery was pinched between the hybrid battery. So now they have to replace the entire Engine Wiring Harness!!! This is very disappointing and doesn't give me confidence in the Pacifica at all. This is not going to make the Pacifica feel "New" anymore...if you know what I mean. The only good thing is we are leasing it for only 3 years, so everything should be covered if we run into other issues (knock on wood).

I was told the new harness could possibly take until the second week of September to arrive plus you have to factor in replacing/installing it, ugh! We needed another vehicle since my wife is a teacher and needed to drive to work and drop-off/pickup our foster boys during the week. We were in a pinch but our salesperson was very helpful and was able to get us a loaner vehicle ('21 Jeep Cherokee) until we get our Pacifica delivered, so we are appreciative of that. And I talked to them about prorating/skipping/covering our monthly payment(s) until it is delivered and our salesperson is willing to work with us.

But I am glad the dealership found this issue before we picked it up but it's kind of annoying that the plant DID NOT catch this at FINAL INSPECTION before it left the plant.

I will post more updates as I get them. I really want to enjoy this Pacifica since I was able to find it in the color I wanted and don't mind the Touring L trim (really wanted the Limited but are hard to come by right now and we needed something).

Not the best first impression of the vehicle. Better they found the issue now, before you might have gotten stranded somewhere.

But it does sound like your dealer is going out of their way to help. There are users here that report they cannot get a loaner for a vehicle they have already owned for a time. You have not even taken possession, and you have a loaner.

Sounds like an assembly error. Those seem to be fairly rare. I know how you feel about a new vehicle undergoing service. Since you lease you shouldn't care. Whatever they want to do, as long as done by an authorized dealer.

Does the dealer have a level 2 charger at the dealership ?
I am not sure, but I will ask for sure.

I do have a Tesla with the Level 1 charger that came with the car but use on a 240V outlet for 32amps for Level 2. I will probably get a Tesla to J1772 adapter for the PacHy.

If that is the main engine harness, yes. I wish or hope that it would be just the charging harness but that's not what it sounded like. I will know more as it gets closer.

Look at the bright side it's a lease and every day you own it its under full warranty and you can just give it right back. If you bought it outright and owned/financed it personally and planned on keeping it a while I can see where it would be very disappointing but there really is no pride in ownership, just drive it, keep it clean and put a smile on your face it's all you can do..

We had a bad wiring harness at 800 miles or so. Took a few days to get in and replace, and have had 4500 trouble free miles out of it in the past few months. It is okay to be frustrated, but dont let this tarnish the vehicle for the next three years. These are complicated machines and things happen (and apparently they should work on their factory QC). You are very fortunate that the dealer is taking great care of you. I had to fight to get a loaner while my 800 mile Pinnacle needed a wiring harness even after opening a case with Chrysler and escalating to their regional manager who told the dealership to put me in a loaner, the dealership still refused. My motto, whenever taking a care into a dealership is, "if you give me a loaner, take as long as you want as I have transportation, call me when its done". No sense is getting worked up over it, stuff happens.

BTW, we have the same color and I absolutely love it. My wife is just so-so on it, but everyone that i've talked to about it raves about the color.

Just an update.

We were suppose to pickup our BRAND NEW PacHy (6 miles on it) on July 31st but we are sitting today at 82 days in their dealership (about 45 days was waiting for the engine wire harness to arrive).
  • 45 days in, engine wire harness arrives, Chrysler engineer comes in to install, does not fix the charging issue.
  • They decide to order a new hybrid battery pack, Chrysler engineer installs it, I am guessing, it did not fix the issue either, because we don't hear anything for 2 weeks.
  • Yesterday, 10/19, my salesperson tells me they have a couple more Chrysler engineers coming out to take a look at the van some more.
Now what?

The dealership has been great, we have had a loaner Jeep for 82 days and they have been paying our lease payments, since we haven't really taken "delivery" of it yet. So all that has been great. BUT......I am worried once they "fix it" that something else might come up with the van. I am starting to worry that the van won't be reliable for my wife and two boys. My wife works 40+ minutes from home and I don't want her to get stranded with the boys, especially with winter coming up.

I am thinking about talking with the salesperson and expressing my concerns and see if we can just get out of the lease somehow and get our deposit back and look for a different vehicle.

Anyone have advice?

I'm glad they are really taking care of you during this ordeal.
I could be wrong but is sounds like they have no idea what's actually wrong with it. They are just loading up a parts cannon and replacing any thing that could be at fault until it's fixed.
Replacing the hybrid battery pack is not cheap. Unfortunately parts are scarce and I don't think there are many mechanics qualified to fix a Hybrid.

PDI's don't catch everything. It was a blossom on a Lemon Tree. I'm curious about the actual assembly date on the factory invoice. Was it the day before or after a long weekend? Or the same with a Holiday? Keep an eye on those vehicles produced Dec 24th. :)

I believe this is the date on the Window Sticker (7/12). The van arrived to the dealership within 2-3 weeks (7/31). It was finished right before the LONG shutdown in July/August.

I would look at the lemon laws in your state and just say you have a wife and kids and you don't want them to get stranded that this is a continuing issue and you just don't feel comfortable in taking delivery of this now. They're a big dealership that could definitely absorb any loss or any inconvenience. If not you can always threaten with small claims court which I think you can sue up to ten or fifteen thousand in your state. I don't know that I would take delivery of that vehicle especially with the money you're paying. You should have total peace of mind and not have to worry about someone breaking down all the time especially with a brand new car..

Update #2
  • 104 days later

Got a text from our salesperson Friday, 11/5/2021:
I hate to ask. But how do you feel about acting like a “Karen” with Chrysler? In my opinion they should buy this van back and build you another/find another in the country and give you a Chrysler employee discount number for the hassle. They have sent techs and engineers out and I don’t have a good answer for you on what’s actually wrong. But I can’t do anything. The complaint has to come from the customer. Again, I hate to ask you to find your inner Karen, because I’m not like that, but this is ridiculous and idk what to do. Every day I see your van raises my blood pressure a bit.
The wife called @ChryslerCares that night and we got a case number created. And today got an email from Chrysler Customer Care with our case information and was told over the phone that they're looking into it and will get back to us tomorrow or Wednesday (11/09 or 11/10) with whatever they can do for us.

From what our salesperson told us over the phone Friday, they replaced the main engine wire harness, the hybrid battery and had a ton of Chrysler engineers come out and tried to fix the van but could not figure it out, the engineers that designed this van!! So we are trying to get the new van with 6 miles bought back and our salesperson is going to order a new van, with some nice discount, I hope.

I really want to just get out of it and just get a Model Y but we really can't wait until next September for delivery. And my wife is really set on the van because of all the room for our kids and two dogs. I am not feeling any confidence in the hybrid after this lemon.

Update #3
  • 169 days later
On December 29, 2021, we contacted a Lemon Law attorney for Colorado, told them our situation with our PacHy and we had them put a case together and was sent off to Chrysler the week of January 3, 2022. The process can take 6-8 weeks. And according to the attorney, out of ALL of his cases he has worked with, our case takes the cake and is the worst in terms of a not being able to fix it, making us wait 5-6 months, and we haven't even taken possession of the van, and we are in a lease, making monthly payments when we haven't even driven it once (lesson learned!!). And they are very very confident we will get out of this lease and get all our money back (down payment and lease payments).

Got a call today, 1/12/22, from our contact on the Chrysler Customer Retention Team, telling me that the dealer contacted them that the van was fixed.....I was like, "Okay, but we contacted a Lemon Law attorney and letters were sent to Chrysler. We are not taking possession of the van. So that is the direction we are going." And he said "Alright, we will stop commutation with you and let our Chrysler legal team take care of the matter.". So that is that.

We really wanted this van but after reading a lot of posts on here about the '21+ PacHy issues, I am glad we are getting rid of it. We will never get another Chrysler again and will be looking at leasing a '22 Subaru Ascent (have had many Subaru's and never had issues).

Update #4

FCA has approved our van as a lemon and we are getting all our money back!

Our van was fixed and they delivered our van to us on January 20, 2022. First time driving it. My wife and I were starting to fall in love with the van. Saved on gas, lots of room for the kids and our dogs in the back with the third row stowed. Then, what I suspected came true. The van already had problems. We get a "Service Hybrid Electric Vehicle System" at 197 miles. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

I did some research and found that it could be an internal leak with the battery heater core? So I looked under the hood and looked at all the coolant reservoirs, all of them were at or above the min level. One month, 1200+ miles later, the far left reservoir is completely empty! So that confirmed my suspicions.

No plans to take it to the dealership because of the long wait for appointments and we are surrendering it anyways. We are already in the final stages of our van being repurchased by FCA, getting out of our lease, all of our monthly payments and down payment back since its been in the dealership shop for the first 5-6 months and we haven't even driven it. Its too bad this van was a lemon. We love it. But we don't want to deal with more issues down the road.

I, feel your pain, you want to enjoy it for a bit before you need service, at least they found it before you got it home
Well the dealership we bought it from had it for 5+ months and they fixed it, replacing the wiring harness, the main hybrid battery and many other things. But one day after got it, we get the current error message. Such a disappointment.
