Hey Everyone,

New to the forum here. I've been doing some research for my next vehicle purchase (long overdue). I've been looking into the Pacifica. I was googling articles that compare vehicles to get a better idea of what the Pacifica has to offer and came across this article comparing it to the Odyssey.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica vs Honda Odyssey | Chrysler Dealer near Me

Wanted to run it by you guys and see what you think? I'm somewhat torn between the two vehicles. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Rupert

You'll probably get a biased response asking that question on a site full of Pacifica owners. But...

We looked at both. Driving wasn't a big difference. The Pacifica wasn't as slow off the line as the Odyssey, but neither is great there. Both cruise on the highway comfortably. It's really a matter of features where the Pacifica wins. We found the ease of third row entry with two car seats in the second row was significantly better. Another feature that swayed us was the availability of ventilated seats on the Limited...that's very nice living in Houston and we've grown accustomed to it on other cars. The Uconnect infotainment is also better than Honda's.

If you have time to wait, Honda is updating the Odyssey for 2017. It is expected to be released to dealers around January last I heard. Honda did do a great job with the Pilot redesign and the Odyssey is expected to share a lot of that technology. If the model update is similar, I would expect the 2017 Odyssey to at least pull even with the Pacifica if not ahead. But we didn't think the 2016 was close. We were ready for a minivan now, so we chose not to wait and see.

Rupert,

The review you linked is VERY limited in scope. Here's my 2 cents worth. Having owned a 2012 Honda Odyssey (Same generation as 2016 Odyssey) before the Pacifica I can tell you the dashboard controls and the Entertainment & Technology in the Odyssey is just awful to use in comparison to the Pacifica's (8.4 Uconnect). The Stow-n-go is also a big plus.

I also feel the Pacifica handles/rides better, it is the better vehicle overall. But Honda is going to be refreshing the Odyssey for 2017, but not much information is currently available though.

I couldn't wait, liked all the options on the Pacifica and there is some little things that bug me about foreign vehicles, like how the doors lock, etc., but maybe that's just me.

The Pacifica is relatively easy going to win any comparisons today. The question is how will compare when the 2017 Odysessy redesign is release and possibly also a redesign of the Sienna.

We are doing everything to wait until the Honda is at least introduced so we can draw some more up to date comparisons since the current gen of Honda and Toyota are 2016 model ears but truly based on old technologies.

Honda's recent styling direction strikes me as over the top and unnecessarily complex. Much like Lexus. The new Civic, for example, I find somewhat painful to behold.

I owned a Ridgeline a couple vehicles back and, while reliable and comfortable, it was a step behind the times in tech. Honda seems to have lost leadership here and plays it very safe.

We decided not to wait - plus our trade in will be needing brakes! Pulled the trigger and are waiting production.

I just let go of my Honda Odyssey 2003 van to upgrade to the 2017 Pacifica. It was definitely time for a new car, and I had been determined to go with another Odyssey. Mine had been very reliable, and the Odyssey year after year gets the highest safety rating of all the minivans.

However, after test driving the 2016 Odyssey and the 2017 Pacifica, I actually changed my mind! The Pacifica has a much more comfortable driving feel than the Odyssey. Probably due to the independent rear suspension. It feels more like driving a luxury sedan than a van. The interior styling and electronic interfaces were far superior in the Pacifica. It really feels like they thought of everything! I love the ease of the Stow n Go seat system.

It will be interesting to see what the new 2017 Odyssey is like. Have you had an opportunity to test drive a Pacifica yet?

Good luck with your decision!
