I just purchased a new 2017 touring L on 4.10.17. It had 53 miles on it. Drove it off the lot and 5 min later my engine light was on. Went straight back to dealer. Waited an hour and the light was off. Drove home which was an hour from the dealership. About an hour later we went to eat dinner and engine light was on AGAIN! Took car to dealership the next day. It's 4/21 and I don't have my vehicle. The dealership never called to tell me what was going on. I had to call. I found out it was my camshaft, which would make sense why the car was skipping and the pedal was to the medal and the car barely moved. I am now trying to get a refund/return my car. The dealership doesn't seem to want to comply. They keep saying we will let you know when your car is ready. I DONT WANT THE CAR! I don't find it morally right for them to sell me a brand new car and it already have problems. I mean I didn't even have it for 24 hours and it's in the shop for two engine lights coming on with in hours of each other. I don't feel comfortable that they are tinkering and taking my engine apart already. I'm concerned I could have issues down the line. Not happy that I should have to accept a BRAND NEW car that is already having issues. They should take the car back. Get with Chrysler and see about getting me into something that isn't broken. Right out of the gate they basically sold me a broken car. Everyone seems to be focused on it getting fixed and not the fact that it was already broken when I purchased it. I found another one that would be a good trade so my clock is ticking. I'm floored that I am even having to deal with something like this and nobody is trying to make it right. They can fix it all they want but 53 miles and already a problem. Very disappointed in Chrysler and the dealership.

If the problem with your new Pacifica IS in fact an internal engine problem, I don't blame you at all for being upset...(!) An internal engine repair isn't an "easy fix" like bringing your vehicle in because a loose gas cap made your check engine light come on, or because you needed a software update. Because you purchased the vehicle with 53 miles on it, it's possible that the dealership already knew about the check engine light coming on during a previous test drive and chose not to deal with it at the time...

The engines in these Pacificas are time-tested and generally known as very reliable. Issues like you are having right out of the gate are extremely rare.

I would try talking to the General Manager of the dealership that you purchased the vehicle from and let them know that you find this type of major defect in a brand new car unacceptable, and you want them to exchange it for another new Pacifica. I would also contact Chrysler Customer Service immediately and see how they might be able to assist you.

Brownlenses, I can only imagine your frustration, and disappointment in this brand new vehicle. It certainly is not the way to begin what should be a joyous feel good moment, after all it's not every day you buy a new car. Having said that, you should immediately reach out to "ChryslerCares" on this site by sending them a private message with your VIN, along with your issues, and concerns. Judging by previous posts on this site they have been extremely accommodating and helpful in resolving member issues.

Best of luck, and Oh, I hope they've given you a loaner vehicle in the interim.

No offense but you seem to be a very impatient person,

we all know dealers are hard to deal with
we all know a perfect car doesnt exist, problem can occur and can be difficult to troubleshoot even for an expert

It seems that you changed your mind about the van and just use this one off issue to get a refund? lastly try breaking your message in paragraph, i couldnt read it all
Some folks must just have an insensitive keyboard, I am sure they never would have said that to your face. I would give dealership a week to install a new engine (not rebuilt), and if they miss the date I would consult an attorney.

I agree with brown lenses. If it has internal engine issues already, the chances of having issues down the road are higher than the average owner. I would be looking for a trade or at least a free extended/lifetime warranty to cover the risk. Good luck. I know I would be fuming.

So sorry to hear. That's a horrible start to a new car purchase. Just like DRZ and CentralFla stated, reach out to Chrysler immediately via our forum or by calling them directly to make them aware of the issue. I'm pretty sure the dealership has given Chrysler zero information in regards to your concerns about returning the van. Hopefully, they can step in and make it right. If they don't allow the return, the minimum you should accept is an extended warranty. Good luck.

Brownlenses - A camshaft or a camshaft position sensor? If it needs the camshaft replaced I am in total agreement with you. Nobody should be expected to accept a brand new vehicle that requires fairly MAJOR engine work within the first 24 hours.

If it just needs a camshaft position sensor then that is minor and no big deal.

Years ago I purchased a new Ford sedan. There was a weird state wide mechanics strike in progress. Left the dealership and got about 3 miles before car overheated. Car towed back to dealer. The antifreeze had been completely drained even petcock still in open position. Gave dealer 2 options, new engine or different new car. An hour later left dealership with a different new car. Since then I check all new car fluids before leaving dealership.

Hi Brownlenses:
I just returned from my dealer and my story is exactly like yours. I have the Touring L with 50 miles when the engine light came on. I was told it was the cam shaft and I blew my top. I said the same thing that I was sold a defective car and should have a replacement. They gave me a loaner and said that they are not sure yet about the defect. I am going to insist on a replacement or a full refund and and certainly don't want a rebuilt engine.
How did you finally make out with that dealer.?

Completely understand Brownlenses' and DocDick's frustrations. Someone I know with a brand new Grand Cherokee Altitude has the exact same issue with their Pentastar V-6. 700 or so miles and check engine light came on. Bad cam shaft was the diagnosis.

As Brett notes above, if it is the sensor, I would get it repaired and request they give you a MaxCare warranty for your troubles. If it is the cam shaft, I would ask for a new van.

Good luck!

new car i

Have had my touring l plus one year now and mine had a couple of issues when I bought it altho they were minor compared to yours. One was the key fob didnt work and the side marker lights on the rear didnt work I bought it anyway and they very promptly fixed the issues. My salesman even came back to service to make sure they fixed the problems which was very nice.I guess that is why I have bought from this dealer many times before. You never know what you are getting with new cars whatever brand it is.

****.. that really sucks..

Don't a lot of dealerships have some kind of policy like a 3 day thing where they will take the car back if you aren't satisfied or something?

If I drove off the lot and engine light came on, I would of not wanted it either, I wouldn't want a fix, I would just want my money back or a brand new vehicle..

I can completely understand why people are upset with the car breaking down right after being driven off the lot. Just to clarify, contractually, Chrysler does not have any obligation other than to fix the car for you under warranty. There is a popular myth that you have three days to return a car -- that's not true in any state that I know of. Most states have some sort of lemon law, but that wouldn't kick in until/unless they have spent substantial time or multiple attempts to fix the problem.

None of this stops you from working with the dealer, or Chrysler, to make it right. Good luck!

Usually the 3 day return only applies to offsite transactions or door to door sales, at least that's the case in WI. So if the dealer has a large tent event in a big random parking lot, then you do have 3 days to return any vehicle purchased. If the deal is done at their dealership, then there is no law saying they have to take the car back even 5 minutes after papers are signed.

I bought a new Ford once and made it less than 5 miles before it overheated. Turns out all the antifreeze had been drained by someone during a mechanics strike. Dealer sent a wrecker. Dealer filled radiator and tried to send me on my way. I said no, either new car or new engine. I got a different new car, identical except for color.
