We just took delivery of our 2017 Limited a few days ago and this morning my wife opened the hatch using the handle with the car locked, key fob in her pocket and the alarm went off (honking horn, lights flashing). I thought she accidentally hit the panic button but she didn't. I had to press the unlock button on the fob to shut off the alarm. Is this normal? Why wouldn't the car see that the fob was in range? If the car thought the fob was out of range, why would it allow the hatch to open?

Thanks,
Ferg

Hi ferg. Welcome to the forum! That does not sound like normal behavior. If I have the fob in my pocket and I open the locked liftgate with the handle or with a wave of the foot, it opens without setting off the alarm. I think it actually unlocks all the doors when I do that. Have you tried it again? Does the alarm go off every time?

Hi Ferg,
Do you have your Uconnect Settings at “1st Press of key fob Unlocks All Doors”? This should also enable all doors to unlock with Passive Entry activation. This can be referenced on pg. 136 of your Owner’s Manual.

Hi Anna - Thanks for the quick reply. I will have to check the Uconnect Settings tonight, I don't know. We haven't really gotten into the Uconnect system yet.

generaltso - I have not tried it again - wife drives the car - I just get to make the payments. ;-)

Funny you posted this because I have the same thing happen. I'll have to check my settings, but I thought I did already have it set to “1st Press of key fob Unlocks All Doors”.

I went into the Uconnect settings and the '1st press of key fob unlocks all doors' was already selected. I haven't been able to replicate the alarm going off.

This happened once in a similar situation when opening on of the sliding doors before opening any other doors. Have not been able to replicate it since.

I've had this happen a few times and came here to search - has anyone had this addressed? Mine is set to unlock all doors, and twice now I've had the alarm go off in the store parking lot when I've manually pulled on the liftgate (because the foot thing just takes too long) and it opens, AND alarms, which is ridiculous. I'm going to try doing this on a more regular basis and also have someone try it before I'm close enough for the fob to register. On top of that, the uconnect service emails me telling me the alarm had been activated, which is a further eye-roller.

Had this happen to me today. Used the foot kick to open the rear hatch. Brought groceries into house, key fob in pocket. Vehicle was off. About 50 ft distance between vehicle and kitchen. Then out of nowhere, the alarm starts sounding. The key fob was not pressed to set it off. I was like wth is up with that?

So if someone figures out the secret sauce for this happening, please let us know. Very annoying. And the unlock didn't stop the alarm. Had to hit panic button to stop the alarm which was counter intuitive.

This just happened to me! Fob in pocket, open hatch using switch on handle, hatch opens, alarm goes off! It did this again this morning as I forgot to unlock first. I need too get this figured out.

On another note: The button for the sliding doors, inside the B pillar, won't close the door - I have to use the button on the outside door handle. Neither switch works - both doors. It used to work so I think I need to reset something - what do I need to do to correct?

Thanks, John

Check the door lockout button. It's up by the sunglass holder.

Hi Anna,
Page 136 in my Pacifica 2017 User Guide doesn't cover this. My page 136 covers Remote Horn and Light and Sending a Text Message.
I cannot find where this is covered in this User Guide. I did find the UConnect setting for '1st Press Unlocks all Doors' and mine was set to this as well as the 'Passive Entry' setting which was also checked. I just tried to replicate the alarm going off by opening the back hatch while the vehicle was locked. It opened just as it should - no alarm - so I am unsure why the alarm went off this morning when I did the same thing. The only difference was the vehicle has sat locked outside for the night whereas I just now locked it and then tried the hatch. I will keep conducting user cases for this to see if I can figure out why the alarm went off. So strange because if I didn't have the fob with me, the hatch should not have unlocked so why would the alarm go off?
Still working on it!
John

The User Guide is just a summary. The full owners manual (6th edition) can be downloaded here:

Thanks. This is what I see on page 136. Please guide me as I really want to figure out why the alarm went off when I opened the hatch.
136 GETTING TO KNOW YOUR VEHICLE
Closing Sunroof
Express Mode
Push the switch forward and release it within one second
and the sunroof will close automatically from any position.
The sunroof will close fully and stop automatically. This is
called “Express Close.” During Express Close operation,
any other actuation of the switch will stop the sunroof.
Manual Mode
To close the sunroof, push and hold the switch in the
forward position. Any release of the switch will stop the
movement and the sunroof will remain in a partially closed
condition until the sunroof switch is pushed again.
Wind Buffeting
Wind buffeting can be described as the perception of
pressure on the ears or a helicopter-type sound in the ears.
Your vehicle may exhibit wind buffeting with the windows
down, or the sunroof (if equipped) in certain open or
partially open positions. This is a normal occurrence and
can be minimized. If the buffeting occurs with the rear
windows open, open the front and rear windows together
to minimize the buffeting. If the buffeting occurs with the
sunroof open, adjust the sunroof op
opening to minimize the
buffeting or open any window.
Power Sun Shade — If Equipped
Opening Power Shade — Express Mode
Push the shade switch rearward and release it within one
second and the shade will open automatically from any
position. The shade will open and stop automatically at the
half-open position. Push the shade switch rearward again
and release it within one second and the shade will open
automatically to the full-open position. This is called
“Express Open”. During Express Open operation, any
other actuation of the shade switch will stop the shade.
Opening Power Shade — Manual Mode
To open the shade, push and hold the switch rearward. The
shade will open and stop automatically at the half-open
position. Push and hold the shade switch rearward again
and the shade will open automatically to the full-open
position. Any release of the switch will stop the movement
and the shade will remain in a partially opened condition
until the switch is pushed again.
Closing Power Shade — Express Mode
Push the switch forward and release it within one second
and the shade will close automatically from any position. If
the sunroof is completely closed the shade will close fully

OK - found this on page 140:
If the vehicle is
equipped with Passive Entry, pulling the outside handle
will unlock and release the liftgate, with a valid Passive
Entry key fob within 5 ft (1.5 m) of the liftgate.
NOTE: If 1st Press of key fob Unlocks “All Doors” is
programmed in Uconnect Settings, all doors will unlock with
a Passive Entry handle activation. If 1st Press of key fob
Unlocks “Driver Door” is programmed in Uconnect Settings,
the liftgate will only unlock with handle activation.

So I had these settings in place and the alarm still went off when the vehicle was locked, fob in pocket, and I pulled the handle. It happened 2x - once yesterday and once today. Just tried again and couldn't make it do it. Maybe just a gremlin.

This has been happening with increasing frequency for me. Car gas been set to unlock all doors since day one. Is there any fix for this (very) annoying bug?
