I got an email forwarded to me today from my dealer via the Supply Chain Management Group of Chrysler for my Pacifica Hybrid that was supposed to be delivered today (that has been sitting at the rail yard in Memphis for almost two weeks) stating and I quote...

"We are still not building or shipping the Pacifica Hybrid. We have seen the shipping status update to "In Transit to Dealer" on some units. These are actually units being shipped back to Michigan for retrofit. There is no timing on when building/shipping will start again."

Anyone else getting this information? Thanks...

I think by now Boeing is the expert on these lithium batters after all the tens of millions they spent keeping them from starting a fire on their new 787 a few years ago. This after many planes had been delivered and were in service. Sounds familiar to Pacifica Hybrid users.

Do we know who is supplying the batteries for Chrysler?

EDIT: it's LG Chem.

Do we know who is supplying the batteries for Chrysler? I think that Chevy developed their own in-house for the Volt.
volt, bolt, chevy spark (except for the first year), now pachy -- this is all LG chem. which is why i wasn't worried at all to begin with, and sort of not worrying much now either about the battery. I think they build the battery thermal management system as well for the most if not all of those. The only factor is installation to spec (skills ramp-up) which I guess we saw with inverter cooling system install error, and now it seems the battery heater as well. These are well designed (I hope) parts with technology verified by time, just not on this particular assembly line. I wish all cars were as reliable and maintenance-free as my spark.

I love how Chrysler Corporate Communications has really gotten out in front of this issue and has been providing great information every step-of-the-way about what is going on with all of our vans. I love how they've been proactively reaching out to their patient and eager customers and really making them feel good about purchasing a Chrysler product, which for many is their first product from the FCA brand! What a great buying experience this has been!! I for one am super excited to see how their servicing experience will be since the sales experience has gone so well.

No wait...that's not right...

This is Mike's update from FB -
11 mins
I have news!! Just had an extended conversation with my dealer and here are the facts directly from the horse's ass...I mean Chrysler corporate rep...
- All Pacifica Hybrids that have been held in transit are being or have already been returned to Windsor for a fix which appears to include a software flash.
- All Pacifica Hybrids out in the wild will need to have their cars also returned to Windsor for the same fix although dealers (at least mine) have not been instructed to contact those clients yet. Apparently Chrysler thought the hold would have been in place before any units got out to people, oops!
- Those currently driving PacHy's should therefore expect to hear from their dealer soon and should also expect to return their car for at least as long as it takes to send it to Windsor and back. Presumably a loaner will be made available.
- My car is now back in Windsor (arrived this morning) and will be shipped direct via truck to my dealer on June 16th, there's even a truck load time in the system! That means shipping for delivery is being expedited as that is not the usual routing for any new vehicles.
- Chrysler Cares has apparently been instructed to not divulge any information to customers lest it make Chrysler look bad...so that's totally working and is also why they've been so useless thus far, it's literally company policy!
- 2017 production run for all Pacificas, (gas and hybrid) has been met (confirmed by my dealer) which means you can't order a fresh one, only a vehicle already in the pipe. The line will be shutting down to retool soon for the 2018 model year which starts selling in September apparently.

Well, supposedly my Hybrid is once again, "Not on hold" but shipping. But they couldn't tell me where it is on shipping.
Strange as the last chat I had, they could tell me it was as far it was 'San Diego, CA" but was held on a "TBD" state.

I hope the 2018 model is no different as the 2017.

Check with your dealer to have them pull a detailed VIN track on it, and they should be able to provide you the exact status code, as well as the current location of the vehicle.

I posted this in another thread, but this is relevant here - this is the emailed response from my dealer regarding an order I placed May 7, 2017:

Thank you for your email. After receiving your email I did contact my Chrysler Rep. He did state that yes there is a delay on all orders at this point. There is not a specific time frame that the "hold" will released. My rep has no clue what the hold is either. Chrysler is being tight-lipped on what is going on. There is not a recall at this point. I am very sorry for the delay. I am thinking that it is a government hold vs a manufacturer. As soon as I have further information I will let you know.

Not exactly comforting.

Wall Street Journal article today

DETROIT— Fiat Chrysler Automobiles FCAU -0.92% NV issued a recall Friday for the newly released electric-gas engine version of its Pacifica minivan to fix a flaw that could short circuit the vehicles’ ability to move.

The company said it needs to upgrade faulty diodes that may stop working and “cause propulsion loss” in Pacifica electric hybrid minivans, a model that made its debut earlier this year. The recall affects 1,368 vehicles sold in the U.S. and another 309 in Canada.

FCA said in a statement that it isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries due to the defective diode problem, which was discovered as a result of customer feedback.

Last month, the auto maker said it would recall an estimated 1.2 million Ram pickup trucks to fix a glitch in safety sensors linked to one death and two injuries.

I thought there were a few situations where this occurred while the vehicle was in motion, but I guess as long as no one actually hit anything or got hit it is not considered an accident?

No one I saw talk about it said they were hit. I've only seen 1 person say they were hit in their PacHy and it was completely unrelated to mechanical issues. It was the other person's fault for not paying attention.
