So I took my Pacifica in to have the door chime replaced because it stopped working after two weeks. While there, I pointed out an issue with the driver side sliding door. When fully closed, the door would noticeable stick out from around the door handle all the way to the roof line. All other parts of the door seemed to line up. I was told by the Chrysler dealership the car would have to go into the body shop and that the dealer I bought it from should have never delivered it this way. So I took it back to where I bought it and I'm waiting to hear back what needs to be done to fix it. I'm not sure I'm okay with having a brand new car that has an aftermarket door with aftermarket paint on it. I keep my cars a long time and don't want something failing prematurely on this "fixed" door. If that is the case I'm considering requesting they replace the car with a new one since this one is only 3 weeks old. It has been a nightmare so far and doesn't give me much faith in the Chrysler brand.

Definitely NOT COOL. Had the same sort of issue with my current Odyssey. Never really resolved to my satisfaction, and I had the same wincing face as you when they were trying to wiggle and pry the door into alignment. You just need to find a good dealership, and in particular a tech, that sees the same things you do and cares to the same extent. Sad, but unfortunately true for all trades and professions. There's good and bad in all. You're not alone.

I had a similar problem with my driver's side sliding door except it was on the trailing edge at the top and coming down about two feet. Very noticeable after I saw it for the first time. It stuck out almost a quarter inch ... far enough that I didn't feel the door seal was seated properly (even though I didn't hear any air noise). It went to the body shop and came back looking just fine without door replacement or painting. I hope yours goes as smoothly at mine.

chances are, they would use an OEM door... so you have that going for you :D

Do you really think they'll need to replace the door? I would think the body shop would just have to fix its alignment.

The dealer body shop should just be able to adjust and align the door properly. No need for anything aftermarket. I had truck doors aligned after I read so many stories of misaligned doors on a forum. So I stepped outside and took a look. Mine were not as bad as others had reported but I did have one door that was out of wack. But I would of never even noticed it had I not read about the others.

My black metallic 2013 Dodge Durango Citadel had the rear bumper out of alignment. I didn't notice it at pick up, but I did a week later when I was washing it. The driver side was about a 1/2 inch too low under the brake light compared to the passenger side. It wasn't crazy noticeable (the black color helped to keep the noticeability down) until you ran your hand over it like I had while washing it and my finger sank into the gap, but once you noticed it you couldn't not see it. I could fit my index finger between the gap and on the other side there was no gap at all, just the proper seam. I took it back to the dealer and they contacted a Chrysler Tech who approved a trip to the body shop because it was obviously built that way from the factory. They were going to replace the bumper skin and paint to match, a two day visit in the shop. I wasn't very thrilled that my new, shiny 50k sticker price Durango was being repainted but I wanted the gap fixed. When the body shop got it and took it apart, they noticed that the factory had simply missed a hanger between the body and bumper and they were able to rehang the bumper, no new bumper or repainting at all. In and out in just under 2 hours and perfectly aligned after.

Why on earth would you need a new door? Its an adjustment you need not a new door.

Hi ottboy3,

Sorry to hear about this! Have you gotten any additional updates from your dealership?

The company is horrible .... the 4th time mine is going into the shop now for the same issue and only 200 miles on it!!!! It has been in the shop for longer than I have had it .... and the customer service is like idiotic .... the service department are a bunch of kids that shouldn't even be allowed to do oil changes.... the main corporate for Chrysler doesn't even care ... it's sad ... I can't wait to walk away with my money and never look back at Chrysler...

After 2 weeks my Pacifica has been returned. They adjusted something called the striker plate which pulls the door in closer when closed. Although it is mostly now aligned the top is in slightly more than the rest. It is close enough that I"m not going to complain and if I didn't already know about the issue I probably wouldn't have ever been able to tell. Hopefully these are the last of our issues. I guess only time will tell. I will be keeping all my records in case I end up having a lemon on hand. We are already half way to 30 days.

The Good, Bad, and the Ugly

As a long-time, and very satisfied owner of three Chrysler T&Cs, I'm a bit disappointed to hear the complaints about the Pacific (which I’m planning to purchase). It's important to understand that the new cars are increasingly complex and they’re equipped with complicated electronic systems that are the cause of many problems. Also, owners are prone to report problems rather than pleasant experiences, so we tend to get a skewed view of the overall satisfaction with the vehicle. People are driven to complain, not to compliment. Every brand has its share of problems. I have a friend who got rid of a new Mercedes Benz due to many unresolved problems. He traded it in on a Lexus only to find that it also wasn't problem-free. There's no such thing as a perfect car, but we're slowly getting there. Today's cars work better and last longer than ever before. The Pacifica’s going through some teething problems, but they are, to an extent, compensated for by the comfort, performance, and advanced design of the vehicle. As the design matures things will get better. It’s still a great vehicle. It’s been said more than once that it’s the best minivan ever.

Mine has the same issue. I am pretty sure the fix involves a few mullet strikes in the right place. For mine both the passenger and passenger side sliding door are sticking out. It's sad the vehicle left the factory in this condition. Unless it's fatigue induced which would scare me away forever. Lol.
