Good evening! We have a 2017 Pacifica with about 62,000 miles that has started a slight grinding/clicking noise (sounds like it’s on the left side of the van) when engaging the transmission after coasting at about 35-40mph. It has also lurched and clunked when taking off from a complete stop a few times and once while switching gears around 20mph. I took it to the dealer and they focused in on the “clunking” and repaired an exhaust mount under the car, but it hasn’t helped the transmission issue. Is there something specific I need to tell them besides that I think it’s a transmission issue? Is this common in this model?

Thanks for reading and for any advice you can share!

But they have acknowledged there is an issue that can at least temporarily be fixed by a software update, until a permanent fix is available.

This is a known issue and my van has the same problem. I have taken it to the dealership a few times and they cant ever get it to do it for them. The Pacifica is a really great van, but the 9-speed transmission is the reason I am not jumping to get a 2021. Anyone want to take a guess why Honda got rid of the 9-spd in the odyssey and made their 10-spd standard last year?

Should we be charged for the service described in the TSB(resettingOr does this show it should be under a warranty? Our van is a few thousand miles above the powertrain warranty period and the dealer is wanting to be paid for the temporary fix detailed in the star bulletin (S2021000005). Is there any way they might cover it under warranty? I’m thinking ahead to what the final fix might cost 😕

I'd suspect it isnt the transmission itself. If the van has had hard shifting issues in the past, it could be engine or transmission mounts or other bushings.

How loud is it? I have a 2017 with similar mileage to you and I've noticed a very faint noise occasionally when accelerating from coasting.
