Thanks Longtime,

I have been following along and just scheduled the repair. The whole front edge of our blue 2017 (12000mi) is bubbling up. Whenever I walk past a Pacifica, I check the hood and almost every one I see here in NJ has the corrosion. It sounds like there is a straightforward solution to this, but combined with the other issues I have with this vehicle (transmission, sliding doors, touchscreen) it feels overwhelming. I thought I was Mopar for life too.
I just Googled "paint bubbles on hood" > images. There are quite a few other manufacturers that are having 'paint bubbles on the hood', not just Pacificas.

Just took my 2017 Pacifica in with the same issue. Dealer took photos and is sending to Chrysler. The bubbles were not there a week ago but suddenly appeared.

I have the same issue. Noticed the bubbles on the leading edge of the hood about three weeks ago. My van is at the dealership body shop getting some minor repair work done (backed into a fence since the back up sensors didn’t go off). Service was supposed to coordinate the warranty repair with the body shop. The van has been there a week and the body shop hasn’t heard from service yet. Hopefully I do t have an issue getting my hood repaired.

“Glad” to hear many people are having a similar issue as me, as I really felt the dealer was going to give me a hard time about this. I will have them look at this at my next oil change. The only thing that worries me is that I already have 32.5k miles, and someone here was told that paint is voided after 36k miles. Hopefully it doesn’t become a big issue.

I just got mine back last night. My dealership didn’t even flinch when I called about it. He knew of the problem and got it repainted. Aliminum hoods require a different paint prep than steel and the factory didn’t do it right. It took a year and a half for our issue to show up. Now, if they could only keep my transmission from shifting hard, my sliding doors to stop working intermittently as well as the screen, I may actually be a happy customer.

I had my hood repainted just over 4 months ago and noticed the paint is missing already from where it was"supposedly" fixed. Can Chrysler cares get involved.. it's out of warranty. Not even 2-1/2 years old.

I have to believe FCA must stand behind a repair that was made while the vehicle was under warranty. I think FCA is wasting $$ by repairing and painting an original hood. They should be replacing hoods, that was my situation (new hood) and I'm hoping that it is a permanent solution to the problem.

I had similar corrosion pop up around the hood seams/edges of my 2017 around the 2-year point. Just got it back from the dealer. They said they followed the Chrysler protocol to assess and repair. It looks good but concerned it will not be a lasting fix. I probably should have waiting longer into the warranty period to get it fixed so I could see all the other areas that were going to corrode. The issue was definitely a factory issue related to manufacturing as the corrosion was clearly developing outward from the base metal at the seam. I'll be anxious to hear from others who had this "fix" done earlier to know if any new corrosion were noted.

Any ongoing corrosion issues?

Has anyone noticed any additional corrosion that;s surfaced after their hood was fixed?

I am having the same bubbling issue. One dealer told me it wasn't covered unless there is perforation. I have 37,000 miles on it. It should be covered right?

My 2017 Pacifica hood has very quickly bubbled. Mileage is 37,500. Within the time warrant but not the mileage. Has anyone been able to obtain warrant coverage just outside of the warrant period? The reviews were so good for the Pacifica Ive gone back to a Chrysler product for the first time in a long time despite past experiences but want to know what I might be up against if I take it in. I really love the van so far aside from this. Thank you.

MOPAR COLLISION REPLACEMENT PARTS LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY
This warranty is not transferable to a subsequent owner of the vehicle. FCA US LLC warrants, to the original purchaser
only, Mopar Replacement Sheet Metal products, including plastic bumper covers and grilles, against defects in material or
workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle on which the part is installed.
This warranty includes perforation (metal rust-through) due to corrosion in normal use. Replacement sheet metal products which
prove to be defective due to perforation (inside-out rust-through only) will be repaired or replaced at the option of FCA US LLC. If
the vehicle is eight (8) model years old or more, FCA US LLC may replace the defective part with a comparable salvage part. This
warranty covers the cost of parts, labor and paint for replacement parts, including outer-panel sheet metal parts, if incurred as a
result of the failure; if preapproved by FCA US LLC; and if an authorized FCA US LLC dealer originally installed the part. Parts are
covered on a replacement basis only, if the original part was sold over-the-counter. This warranty is not transferable.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED:
This warranty does not cover corrosion due to fire, accident, vehicle abuse, owner negligence or vehicle alteration; corrosion
caused by sand, hail, airborne fallout, chemicals, salt, road hazards or stone damage; or surface paint deterioration or corrosion
(other than inside-out perforation).

My 2017 Pacifica is also bubbling at the leading edge of the hood. I took it to the dealer and they were very helpful. They took pictures and contacted Chrysler about a fix. They stated that this is a common problem and they often see the same problem coming back after fixes. They recommend to replace the hood instead of fix and pushed Chrysler to replace the hood. Chrysler, though, refused a replacement and only offered to fix. I also took my Pacifica out to several reputable body shops, and they ALL stated the same thing. REPLACE the hood. A fix will often come back and they have seen similar issues came back. This is a design and material flaw. The fix will only last until the warranty period ends.

We called Chrysler and they actually told us to go to another dealer. They stated that the dealer's workmanship is the problem, not the product - if customers have to come back for the same issue. At this point, I'm not sure what to do. We like our Pacifica, but the problems just keeps mounting and Chrysler doesn't have a long term solution. From this forum and many body shops and dealers, this is a well known problem. I just don't understand how Chrysler doesn't have a permanent solution - the newest Pacifica has now been around for about three years. Shouldn't they redesign and replace these hoods for the newer builds and replace the old ones? Seems logical.

Just replying to add mine to the list. I have a 2017 w/ < 12,000 miles on it. It was in an accident when I bought it (salvage title) so no warranty - I've had it since it had 4,500 miles on it (8 months, it's been through one MN winter). I assumed that the hood was replaced but maybe not? And if it was, it has the same problem. I briefly noted a similar thread on the general discussion board a couple of weeks ago and sure enough, last weekend when I was outside by my Pacifica I noticed a LOT of bubbling on the edge of the hood on the driver's side. I didn't look any further as I didn't want to see more! I may take it to my friend's husband as he works at a body shop in the hopes that I can pay a little less now to keep it from getting worse. But thought I'd chime in to provide more evidence for those who still have warranties!

washing my wife's 2017 that we bought new 25 months ago, I found the same thing....a decent sized rust blister on the drivers side leading edge of the hood. I plan on taking to the dealer the next chance I get. I've owned mopars my whole life, but this van has had so many problems, I don't know if our next vehicle will be from FCA
