Hello,
I am considering whether to get one of the hybrid from the first-delivery batch or to custom order and perhaps wait 2-3 months to get one from new production.

I think that the first deliveries were produced a few months ago and mostly sited in the storage and going through updates and changes whereas the new ones will be built ground up based on those lessons learnt from the first ones, hence, less chance of things going wrong.

What do you think? I am being too pesimstic?

Thanks,

Why do you believe that the ones in storage that were built earlier are or were going through updates and changes? There is no credible evidence to support that theory only speculation on why the release of the Hybrid was held for 17Apr17. Many reasons known only to FCA are possibly behind the release date, marketing strategy, coordination with the NY International Auto Show, having sufficient sold units delivered to dealers at relatively the same time, etc. If you expect to buy one of the first "batch" to be delivered to dealers, well good luck, I suspect most are already sold units not dealer stock. Best of luck.

Yes, in my opinion. If you're lucky enough to find one at a dealer that's not already spoken for and has the configuration that you want, it seems silly to wait an extra few months just in case something has changed.

I agree. If you are going to wait, then wait for the 2018s instead of the "2nd batch" of 2017s. There has been some speculation though that the 2018s won't have as many extras as the 1st model year or it will cost more. Another note on not custom ordering, dealer allocations are initially for only a few hybrids (~3). So if you don't care what color you get or if it doesn't have a sunroof, then that won't be a problem. Dealers in my area (SF Bay Area) are also planning on selling non-custom orders for $2K above MRSP, but we'll see what actually happens.

It's under warranty anyways so anything that is wrong should be covered. Par for the course when adopting new tech. Model X customers who were first on the list went through **** on some quality issues, but they were resolved. I'd expect FCA to do something similar if there are any issues.
