PSI numbers not matching

Hi all,

I noticed on my dash display yesterday that all my tires were low on air (31 to 32 range for all four after driving for 15 minutes). This morning I checked all tires with 3 different tire gauges and all were roughly 30 PSI. I added air to all four tires to bring them up to 36 PSI according to the different gauges (no more than a 0.5 difference between the gauges). When getting in the car to run some errands a few hours later the van display reads that all tires are at 33 PSI so naturally I double checked with my gauges again and they all showed right at 36 PSI. What's going on here? The van is parked in an enclosed garage so it's not sitting in the sunlight. Anyone have this happen to them? Any recommendations? Thank you for your time.

My tire pressures were getting low as well, so I inflated them all to 36 PSI according to my gauge. The van then registered 35 on each tire, 1 pound less than the gauge so I think it tends to read on the low side.
I'd be a lot happier and more trusting if the displayed PSI was only 1 PSI off...but 3?

I think the system was designed to monitor the tire pressure, and if there was a significant drop off of the recommended pressure, it would alert you. I don't believe it was ever intended to be an accurate tire pressure gauge. I'd still rather have that than not have it, even if it were off somewhere between 1 and 3 psi.

The manual says: "The vehicle needs to be driven for up to 20 minutes above 15 mph (24 km/h) in order for the TPMS to receive information." So, if we want to compare TPMS displayed values to our alternate home gauges do we need to drive around first to get an updated value displayed on our TPMS display and then immediately stop and check/compare with our other gauges before the tire temperature has time to change (pressure changes ~1psi per 12 degrees F).

I run mine at 38 and they frequently read 39/40. No big deal.
Temperature is a major factor unless you have nitrogen in them. Mine set a 37 but read 40-41 when its hot and driving.
