Are these supposed to turn on when it detects rain? Or do you have to manually still but then they figure out how slow or fast to go? They aren't turning on automatically for me, but I have it set to on in my settings. Thanks!

Yes, they should turn on when necessary. In addition to being turned on in the settings, you need to rotate the wiper knob to somewhere in the intermittent range. When auto-wipers are turned on, that intermittent speed range becomes auto sensitivity. Just leave the knob there and they'll automatically turn on, off, and adjust speed as necessary.

There is a full "off" positon, but if the dial is somewhere in the ascending range, they wipers are in auto sensor mode. If you go past the ascending range on the dial, then you are now in always "on" and with a choice of low or high speed.

Is there the ability to turn off the rain sensor feature and manually set intermittent wipers? I have auto rain sensing wipers on my current car and they are infuriating

.
Depends on your vehicle. I'm not sure what the setup is on the Pacifica but I wouldn't be surprised if you could disable that feature. I've owned older Mazdas that had rain sensing wipers that couldn't be disabled, but we have a newer one where that can be toggled in the vehicle settings menu.

Yeah, I have a Mazda5 now, and the auto wipers can't be turned off. Our new Mazda 3 you can turn them off, hoping it's the same for the Pacifica

Hey Mo Pho,

On page 97 of your Owner's Manual you can find the following:

"• The Rain Sensing feature can be turned on and off
through the Uconnect System. Refer to “Uconnect Settings”
in “Multimedia” for further information."

You can also adjust the sensitivity of the Sensing feature if you would like to keep it activated.
