Note that they are NOT planning to fix the actual problem. Here's a paragraph labeled: "How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component"
Remedy is a PIM and IPC software update for 2017-2018 model year
vehicles and a PIM software update for 2019-2023 model year vehicles
providing messaging to the customer and sufficient drive time to exit
traffic

Why should the actual part need to be replaced when software parameters would be the root cause of the failure?
?????

Note that their "solution" will be:
providing messaging to the customer and sufficient drive time to exit
traffic
.
As I read this, the problem will still occur...it's just that you'll have minute or two to get out of traffic before they shut everything down.

Doesn't sound much like a fix to me.

Since the software change allows the van to keep running for a short time, I wonder why it can't be programmed to allow a "limp home" mode for a longer time? I've heard some transmissions in other cars provide that. It's not a question of preventing further damage to the transmission, since it's going to get pulled out anyway.
I don't think anything I've seen so far indicates what the software change will actually do, beyond not killing the vehicle immediately. Perhaps a short time is two minutes to get off the road...or perhaps it's two weeks to get to the dealer. I think we'll just have to wait until we get official word from Chrysler or until someone encounters the problem after their software has been updated.

Anyone happen to have even a guesstimate on when the software update may be available to dealers? Dealers in my area don't seem to know//won't give an answer.
According to the NHTSA information Chrysler is planning to start notifying owners and dealers on March 8. I'm not certain whether they'll just be notifying of future availability or whether they'll have the fix in hand ready to apply. I would expect they'd put a certain priority on applying the change to vehicles which are otherwise stuck on dealer lots...

William:

Here is a quote from the NHTSA web site information about the 03A recall for my 2020 PacHy:
NHTSA Recall Number 23V-010

Recall Status Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available

Summary An internal transmission wiring connector short could result in an unexpected engine shutdown under certain conditions.
Sure sounds like a wiring connector short. A previous description of the recall on the NHTSA web site included the information that the software change was intended to allow the vehicle to exit traffic safely. There was no indication that the software change would actually correct the underlying hardware issue. Which seems really unlikely in any case.

The 03A recall is not related to any connector/harness. If that issue is the case, there will be a separate bulletin that we would be releasing if our team has found that to be the issue. Right now, our main focus is on the software update for the PIM. We will take this feedback down for our technical team to further review.
