Pacifica Cruise Control Recall

My Mopar site does not yet show this recall, but figured some folks here might want to know about it.

Apparently I don't have enough posts here to be able to post a link, but if you Google this it should be at the top of the search results.

Well, this sucks. I have to turn mine in to store for an overseas assignment in 10 days, and I can't turn it in with any open recalls. Hopefully I can get it in to the dealership next week.

I’m sure Kelly will take credit for forcing Chrysler to recall the Pacifica. Lol.

Just heard about this from my dealer. Does anyone know if the fix is already made yet? I'm told it's just a matter of a software update.

It appears that the PacHy may not be affected. It is not specifically identified, but I'm not sure whether they intended to cover it under the broader umbrella of "Pacifica minivan." The PacHy's drive system is different enough that it may not be susceptible to this issue.

Maybe they can update us over-the-air.

Maybe. I think that is unlikely. The press release says:

FCA US will begin alerting affected customers as early as next week so they may schedule service appointments.

The FCA statement indicated that the recall was limited to cars with gasoline engines and automatic transmissions. I'd guess that does not include hybrids.

I hope that the PacHys are not, but they do have a gasoline engine, and I am not quite sure how they would categorize the transmission. It doesn't really fall into the automatic transmission category, but it is certainly not a manual. It is not 100% clear. I guess we will know when they start sending out recall notices.

Based on the FCA statement, the software update is for the Powertrain Control Module(PCM). FCA does not specifically mention ACC (adaptive cruise control) as part of the update. I haven't determined if the PCM is common to both gas and hybrid versions as yet. Just to be on the safe side, I'm assuming the Hybrid will be included for now.

Thanks, Vapian. Here's the link to NHTSA. https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2018/CHRYSLER/PACIFICA/VAN/FWD#recalls

This recall is huge and affects a boat load of various Chrysler cars and trucks from 2014 on, including 2017 - 2018 Pacificas. FCA recommends putting the vehicle in neutral and braking to a controlled stop if you are unable to turn off the cruise control. Not sure how to do that on a Pacifica as the gear selector seems to be locked in drive when the vehicle is in motion. I did discover you can shift from Drive into Low by pressing down and turning the selector to the right (don't be going more than, say, 20 mph), but I haven't tried that trick to shift into Neutral.

Doing a search on our month-old 2018 Pacifica's VIN resulted in no recall, but it might show up next week when FCA starts sending out letters. Will keep checking. Sounds like the fix is a software update.

This is at heart the 4th thread opened about this recall. Search before you post is your friend.

Cool! Another recall!

Stuff like this doesn't bother me. It's a great way to get the latest PCM calibration installed for free, which will include all the tweaks they've been making along the way. Looks like it's all being done over a potential failure sequence that's nearly impossible to have happen. I'll get it in whenever I have the chance, but I'm far from worried about it.
