Does anyone else have an issue with the interior dash/cluster/head-unit lighting dimming prematurely or staying dim too-long...?

I am not sure what sensor(s) is(are) responsible for telling the instrumentation lighting to dim, but mine seems to be skewed towards being too sensitive.

MORNINGS: As the sun starts coming-up low in the sky, I wonder if the sensor(s) translate that as headlights...? I generally have to MANUALLY click the rotating-wheel UP a couple notches to FORCE the Nav-screen and instrument cluster to be bright enough to see once daylight starts breaking (early commute here). Which means I need to remember to MANUALLY turn it back after.

EVENINGS: The same/opposite happens. It seems like the lighting transitions to "dim" way too early and it gets tough to see my gauges and info-tainment screens again. ESPECIALLY if I need to back-in to my driveway... my eyes are still adjusted to the bright evening sky, but my display is too-dim to see and I need to go manually click it back up to override it again.

Many times, I forget that I did that and get into my car at 4:30am to a SUPER-BRIGHT instrument cluster. :)

So, again... dunno if it's just *MY* vehicle's issue, or if it's systemic and MANY of you experience this...?

Any feedback...?
Thanks...

I have experienced this as well and at different points throughout the day just going under a small overpass or sitting at a light/stop sign that is heavily shaded by a tree. It does seem to be fairly sensitive. I haven't owned a vehicle prior to the Pacifica with auto lights so I really don't have a benchmark to go off of.

Hi PhillyDad,
More information about the Instrument Panel Dimmer Control can be found by visiting pages 94-95 of the Owner’s Manual here https://www.mopar.com/chrysler/en-us/care/knowledge-center.html
If I can be of anything further assistance, please reach out.

I know you were replying to PhillyDad... but to clarify, the original topic is not about a misunderstanding of how the user-controls work... it's an issue of how the "system" automatically determines when to dim (or not dim) the cluster and touchscreen on its own. It's about how it seems to not be accurately "aware" enough of the exterior ambient light to make a good decision during those in-between hours of dawn & dusk. It is (sadly) favoring the "DIM" setting at both times making it difficult to see them unless I manually override.

Yes, the system is quite sensitive to ambient light changes, which quickly gets annoying. At dusk, the headlights switch between on and off repeatedly until it's dark enough for them to stay on. Passing under overpasses or tree shadows have the same effect. I'm hoping this can be adjusted in a future software update, and that Chrysler recognizes the need for such a change.

Changing the Uconnect screen to manual brightness control with a setting of 10 does help reduce the distraction somewhat since the change on that screen is not quite as drastic when the headlights come on.

Early in the a.m. after the sun comes-up... the sky is bright, there is sunlight all around, but it's very low in the sky. This isn't that time where it's just "getting lighter"... I am talking "sun is shining" and the system still stays DIM until some (arbitrary?) threshold is reached. Part of the commute, the sun is behind me as I travel west, and the issue is compounded by the sun SHINING on my dash and touchscreen while they are dim.

By no means is this life-threatening... or even making me angry in the LEAST... just wondering if others experience it. It's barely a blip on my annoyance radar.

auto lights dimming

I havent had this happen probably due to the fact I dont drive like I used to.Did have a olds van that did this but I learned to just ignore it.I do find it slightly annoying that the night setting seems to dim for the dash lights so I just leave everything bright and turn off the screen if it becomes to annoying but that defeats the purpose of having a map to look at.

I want the display in full bright when showing the backup camera video. And I don't know how to make it bright other than turning the dial to full bright to override the auto-dimmer-when-headlights-on function. Doing so will leave the whole things in full bright until I manually turn the dial to "auto dimmer" mode. That means a lot of work!

So just like any other cars, please give full bright video of the backup camera. Or am I missing something?

Have you configured your date and time in the menu? My T&C did that and it was set to the wrong time zone.
