My 2017 Pacifica was serviced for 2 recalls last Thursday. This Monday the van wouldn’t start and a message of “service shifter” was on the dash. I called the local dealer and they didn’t really want to help me. I did get it towed there bc we don’t have any other options but they haven’t even looked at it yet and we leave for vacation next week. They didn’t seem to care about that or the fact that this is the only vehicle that can carry our whole family. I can’t go anywhere while I wait for them to figure this out and at least look at it. Has anyone else has this service shifter message and was it easily resolved? I really need my vehicle back and in working order quickly.

Make sure they check the battery or batteries. A low battery might give unusual messages such as this.

Which recall did you have done?

I had the U50 and U64 recalls done. One deals with the parking break and the other with the engine software.

I have had the exact same issue. My car was serviced for recalls T23, U50, U64 on 08/01/2019. Today my car won't start with the service shifter on the dash. I hope this is something Chrysler can resolve as part of the reprogramming of U64 issue.

We purchased a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica as well and have had nothing but issues. We have been a part of multiple recalls and just this morning dealt with this Shifter Service issue. Because the car won’t move out of park we had to have it towed and the towing cost was increased because special equipment had to be used to tow the vehicle that won’t turn off but also won’t start and won’t move out of park. Icing on the cake Chrysler doesn’t have loaner vehicles so we have to rent a car. This has been the worst vehicle we have ever owned and will be looking at trading it in.

Same issue on 2018 with 22k miles. All recalls performed. Happened last week when my wife backed the car out of our driveway ONTO THE STREET. Engine was running but when she shifted to Drive the parking brake would come on. Local dealer had it all day and ran diagnostics. Claimed it was a loose ABS connection and that it was fixed. Happened again today dropping off our son at preschool. Tried to get out of the parking spot but same Shifter Service message. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE and we are pissed. We had a battery replaced last month because we were alerted the start/stop was broken. I've seen posts here where people have had batteries replaced because of the shifter service message but our dealer didn't replace a battery again. Hoping to find more guidance here. This is twice this has happened and we are now studying up on Washington State lemon law.

So sorry to hear about this! Are you planning on going back to the dealer? We would be happy to connect you with a case specialist if so. They will work with you and the dealership to provide an extra layer of assistance while you are in at the dealer.

Feel free to send us a private message if you'd like to discuss further.
