Tell me what to accept before rebates! Pacifica Limited

Hi all,

With prices dropping, I hope I am ready to jump on a pacifica!

I am in NH 03842. Apologies as I can't post links to make any research easier :frown2:

Here is the van I am looking at VIN 2C4RC1GG0HR758011

Base: $42,895 +
Options: $1,995 (uconnect video package) =
Subtotal: $44,890+
Destination: $1,095 =
Total: $45,985

From what I have read previously, I should be able to get invoice -1.5% (half holdback pre-destination price).

Invoice according to Edmunds: $44,069
Half Holdback = $44,890 * 1.5% = $673
= $43396

Is my math right? The first offer I got from my dealer (before rebates) was $43,082 so that means he's already beating that target.

Thanks!

$43,396 on a $45,985 vehicle sounds awful!! For research, check some other dealer's websites even if they are out of your area, some of them will show discounted prices. What I've seen on in stock vehicles is about $8,000 to $11,000+ off MSRP. Make sure to look for all the discounts you can get - just to start, Sam's Club gives you $1,000. IMO don't get hung up on the "invoice price" it only makes you play into the dealer's game. It's up to you, but getting an extra $8K+ off would make sense to travel for that much.

I shopped multiple dealers and the one local small dealer gave me $10K off MSRP as a no haggle price - that did include rebates and dealer discount. I really did not expect the little guy to go that low! I ended up paying $38,071 on MSRP of $49,125 for a new order Limited at another dealer. The one thing you do need to do is time your purchase for when the best rebates are available. Right now I'd wait for May for the Memorial Day savings. You definitely should be able to do better than you've gotten. And if you've got AAA then you're eligible for TrueCar pricing which by itself is going to be better than your quote. I'd be looking for at least $5K to $6K off MSRP before rebates.

After all the rebates, you should get close to 15% not 1.5%!

I agree. 15% is a minimum you should shoot for - you may be able to get 20%+

Do you know how much in incentives/rebates you qualify for? That makes a huge difference.on the bottom line.
Are you trading in? If so, getting fair value for your trade-in is at least as important as the dealer discount.

I plan to leverage the 0% financing for 60mo. I dont lease currently, but do have sams. Not exactly sure how much in rebates I will get.

I might trade. I am trying to private sale unless dealer makes a strong trade offer.

The keysense key can be set to limit speed, radio channels and I guess it is for people with teens. I think I saw something that said it restricts a geographical area the car can be driven. I don't have that so someone else may be able to give you a better description. What it does do is give you an extra key. I suppose you might not have to program restrictions if you were using the keysense key fob yourself.

But if Clark will give you a better price would it matter if the wagon has keysense?

I have the mocha and I love it!

So, how much did you find in rebates to use?

I never trade unless what I have is falling apart and I just need them to take it. The first dealer I visited was insistent that he wanted my 2003 Town & Country in trade. I had no intention of selling the van let alone trading it in for next to nothing.

I have the same car, limited with uconnect theater and nothing else.

For reference I paid low $38k(I forget the exact number and I'm too lazy to go dig it out, sorry. Was OTD at $42k even, high taxes in my area) and got the spare tire kit thrown I for free. I gave up the 0% apr but got 2.9 for 75mo which basically gave me the $1500 up front.

Did you get the 2.9 from Chrysler or your own? I assume 38 was after rebates. Did you have a current lease? Where are you located? No taxes for me!

I got the 2.9 from Chrysler, I have near perfect credit. Yes, the 38 was after all rebates and haggling. No, I didn't have a lease. I'm in the NE Ohio area. I wish we had no taxes!

I live in your area and just went through this process. The reason I mentioned a trade-in is that I've noticed dealers are generally more willing to discount if you are trading-in, especially if you have a late model vehicle with relatively low miles that they can sell themselves rather than sending to auction. We weren't going to trade-in and most of the offers we got were around the same discount you were offered, i.e. about $3k off MSRP before any incentives. Some high volume dealers in other parts of the country are offering significantly higher discounts. Two of them discussed in this forum are Falls Motor City in OH and Huntington Beach Chrysler in CA, who are advertising $9-10k off MSRP. Those prices include $2000-2500 in incentives so the dealer discount is on the order of $7000-7500. Must be getting some great dealer cash from Chrysler that the smaller dealers miss out on. I didn't find any dealers around here who came close to them in inventory or price. Hopefully you can do better.

The incentives are hugely variable depending on what you qualify for and whether you finance with Chrysler. Everyone gets $1500. Everyone CAN get another $1000 with Sam's. If you finance with Chrysler, you can get another $500-1500. But it's hypothetically possible for the right person to stack up to $7k in incentives.

Playing the incentives game is one thing I really don't like about buying a GM, Ford, or Chrysler. GM right now is probably the worst. We were looking at a few different GM SUVs and their sticker prices were insanely high. For example, the GMC Acadia we test drove had a sticker price of $53k which puts it about $5-6k above a maxed out Pilot or Highlander. No way are they going to sell them without incentives. Their incentives can be very generous, but also confusing and ever changing. For example, the total of incentives we qualified for swung by $4k while we were shopping. That is a real turn-off. Just price the car where it will sell so your dealers and customers don't have to play these silly games.

Anyway, Clark in Methuen, MA was mentioned in this thread. We shopped there and the salesman was pretty nice (Phil) and they seemed like they were ready to give us a better price than most others in the area, but unfortunately they didn't have anything in inventory that we wanted. There was a loaded L+ in Dark Cordovan (brown) that I could have been happy with, but not the wife.
