Car: 2021 PacHy touring L, 17000 miles, had no issues until today.

We are driving on our way back from the mountains going 70 on the left lane (of four) in the highway, suddenly a "service charging system" error comes up alternating with "shift to P to start".
Along with this I lose all ability to accelerate, luckily we are on a small decline so I coast us to a stop. (On the emergency shoulder)
I park the car, turn off and on and am able to drive. I end up driving 20 minutes home, but the check engine light is now on.

I've seen variations of this issue online but can't make heads or tails of it. Is anyone more read up on the topic? Also are folks purchasing OBD2 reader to check the codes?

There are many threads on here about this very issue. You will need to get it to a dealer.

Its also very important you put a complaint in to NHTSA so hopefully these issues will get investigated.
From my economic standpoint though,
Doesn't that also tie this possibly deadly issue to my vin?
It just looks like I have a lot to lose (loss of value) vs gain (doing the right thing).
Really regret buying this car, there is no bells or whistle that I would trade for the safety of my family, and this is pretty bad, in my eyes it's as bad as those ev's catching fire spontaneously

Well the VIN submitted to NHTSA isn’t public. And you’re going to get your van fixed by a dealer with either a PIM or transmission replacement. After that it will work fine, as has been attested to by others on here. This isn’t the first vehicle to have shutdown issues, and won’t be the last. You want your family safe? Do what you can to ensure vehicles on the road are safe. I’m sure you wouldn’t want something losing power in your vicinity and involving you in an accident. There’s no economic disincentive for you reporting it.

How are you so sure it'll be fixed easily? This guy has a channel with 6 instances of it happening. I can easily see dealers sending us back unable to reproduce the issue, I pulled the code and took a screenshot, it's P043A, from what I've gathered online I am not optimistic

If you had looked at this forum more you’d see people are getting this easily diagnosed and fixed now. The best thing to do is to send a PM to @ChryslerCares and get the van to a dealer. Chrysler knows how to fix this even if the dealer is unsure. Sending a message to ChryslerCares will get Chrysler engineering involved with the dealer to diagnose the issue and get it rectified. Chances are it’ll require a transaxle replacement. They may also replace the PIM. The sooner you take my advice the sooner it’ll get fixed.

Those videos are from 7 or 8 months ago when we didn’t know what the issue was. That’s not the scenario now. Either PM ChryslerCares or call their customer care people, tell them you’re having unexpected loss of power with the errors you’re seeing, and that should get the ball rolling.

I‘m just trying to help and get you back on the road.

PMing @ChryslerCares might be your best bet as we know they are familiar with the issue and have gotten people fixed up.
That does give me hope,
I called Chrysler and they've put the onus of getting my car into the dealership on me
The dealership tells me they're booked until the 17th of Jan and wont squeeze me in earlier
Hopefully I can get some better accountability with @ChryslerCares,

My wife tells me she'll just keep driving until the car goes into the shop, she's not worried about it but I am. we did get a short video footage and some photos. my biggest worry is that they'll just tell me they couldnt reproduce the issue and send me back with the same car with the same issue. again hoping @ChryslerCares can help the dealers diagnose and fix the issue

If the issue was easily reproducible it would be better,
bc i'd know avoid that situation or at least we'll know how to fix it,
But if it comes up intermittently with unknown reproduction steps,
i.e. on the freeway in the Rockies (which is where it happened) it could happen again out of the blue and really mess us up.

I find it a little bit concerning that the expectation of quality is so low that we as consumers have just normalized this level of quality as acceptable.

Ya I know in many parts of the USA it’s hard to get in to a dealer. Maybe call around as much as possible to see if someone will get you in. PM ChryslerCares with your VIN, what happened, and which dealer you’re taking it to and when. Tell them it’s the same power loss problem others on the forum have had, and hopefully they can help. I don’t think they will just send it back out if you get Chrysler involved. That was happening at the start, but this issue has continued and is more understood now, even though it is intermittent.

I would again recommend submitting a complaint to NHTSA. There is really no downside for you, and it helps getting the spotlight put on this issue.

Yes it sucks to get caught with an issue like this. It really is an industry wide issue. Google Mercedes Benz shuts off while driving. Even luxury cars fall victim for various reasons. It’s often an electrical fault or a short or a sensor problem.

The dealership needs to open a STAR case. That STAR team has better knowledge of the Hybrids. They had the dealer run all these diagnostics and decided my transmission needs to be replaced. My car has been at the dealer since 11/28/2021. The transmission is on backorder, hasn't even made it to the dealer yet. It is currently 1/6/2022.

Sounds like you might have a lemon. Check with a local attorney to see if you can return it.

Leased a '21 PacHy end of July '21, 6 miles on the car. Never been driven because they found an issue with it at arrival pre-inspection. Van has been in the shop for 5+ months and counting. No resolution. Chrysler engineers have no idea what's wrong with it. Seems a bit odd.....I bet its the PIM or transmission and the Chrysler engineers don't know.

Spoke with a Lemon Lawyer licensed in Colorado and they just sent all the paperwork/letter to Chrysler. Waiting for response. Want out of the lease and all our money back (down payment and lease payments). Going with a 2022 Subaru Ascent after all this. Never getting a Chrysler again. Very sad because I was hyped for this van.

I won't get into the details of my story, but we also had the dead vehicle issue while on vacation, van full of my family, driving in the middle of nowhere. 3 months later we finally had our van back (transmission replacement), but we had already started the lemon law process. That process is still ongoing (started in may of 2021).

We are nervous every time we drive the van now, expecting it to shut down without notice or warning. I refuse to live with a family van, MSRP over $50k, knowing it could die at literally any time, putting my family at risk. I've seen way too many people experience the same issue, far more than I've ever seen mentioned from any other vehicle.

Look into the lemon law for your state, it's likely you already qualify.

Hello, I just faced this same issue yesterday. I don’t have posting minimums yet to PM, but would a vehicle be safe to drive with this error persisting since it’s not easily replicated?
