The type of spark plug for Chrysler Pacifica 2017+

7918 Views 22 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  POTTOBON
Dear friend,
I would like to replace the spark plugs in my Pacyfica. When I replaced spark plugs in my Chrysler Town and Country 2013 I bought Champion CCH9407, it is RER8ZWYCB4. I bought the same type of spark plug for Pacifica 2017, because the engine is the same 3.6V6. But when I put out the first spark plug I observed that there is other type, it is RER8ZWYPB4. I found that it is probably Champion CCH9417. Can I use CCH9407 for my Pacyfica? Or should I bought CCH9417? What is difference between these two types of spark plugs?
Have a nice day,
Pawel

My guess is the plug that came out of the Pacifica has a slightly different heat range than the one that came out of your T&C. I'm not smart enough to know if it will make a difference, but perhaps this post will encourage some else who is knowledgeable in spark plug science to respond.

BTW, I admire anyone who takes on changing their own plugs. It's quite the job!

The older Grand Caravan/Town & Country does not use the same engine as the Pacifica. The former has a 2nd generation Pentastar 3.6L engine while the Pacifica uses a 3rd generation variant with a few major changes.

The ground electrode core material is nickel copper alloy on the 9407/RER8ZWYCB4 plug. The ground electrode core material is platinum on the 9417/RER8ZWYPB4 plug. They appear to be identical in every other regard.

I'm thinking the older plugs would probably work fine, but I wouldn't be willing to install them to find out. Chrysler changed the ground electrode core material for a reason. They wouldn't have done so if it wasn't advantageous in some way, shape, or form. You need to remove the intake plenum to install the front bank of plugs. I wouldn't want to do that twice if the older plugs were problematic, but I wouldn't think lesser of you for giving them a shot if you already have them. The worst that could happen is they might cause some misfires. That seems unlikely, but I can't say it's impossible either.

Only replace with the same factory plug. Resistance is different between part numbers and you can throw engine codes and cause all kinds of problems like timing issues and severe carbon buildup. Center electrodes are different. Also, the ground electrode metal is different.

Great job for all answers! I know now that it is not the same engine and the spark plug. I will give CCH9407 back to shop and I will buy CCH9417 of course.
BTW it is not good that the car shop do not know well Pacifica's specification...

And the last question about spark plug gap - is it 1mm or 1.1mm?

The new spark plugs will come pre-gapped. Don't bother checking or adjusting the gap on them. You'll damage the center electrode if you do. The new plugs come with a protective sleeve on them so they shouldn't be damaged.

Hello Pawel
Have you changed the spark plugs yet? If not, would you please take pictures of the individual work steps? That would be great :) That would help me and certainly others when changing spark plugs.
Funny, my van is at 30K and I am going to have the dealer change the plugs as recommended. I honestly have no idea what they are and would prefer the dealer do the pretzel twist.

??? Recommended is 100K.

??? Recommended is 100K.
I am getting conflicting information on this. One place says 30K to 40K, other says 30K to 90K, other says 100K. We really need to get this nailed down. Plugs do wear out and these engines don't run smoothly anyway. So it is difficult to tell. I guess I will just do the oil and alignment check and just ask the dealer what they say.

I would suspect on a hybrid 100K would be acceptable, but a gas only, humm.
It is in your owner's manual under servicing and maintenance.

Most newer gas engines since the mid-2000s (including the 3.6L used in the Pacifica) come with Iridium spark plugs that have a 100k mile service interval. Some Toyota engines actually have a 120k mile interval specified for spark plugs. YMMV, but firsthand experience has shown that iridium spark plugs will last much longer than 100k miles. I've changed a few sets of iridium spark plugs on other vehicles near 100k miles. They showed a little wear, but had almost no gap erosion. Our second vehicle currently has 109k miles on it's second set of iridium plugs, and it still runs great. I'll probably pull the front three out soon just to check them because it's fairly easy, but as it stands right now I have no plans to change them again until the engine starts misfiring. Admittedly, this is mainly because I don't plan on keeping it much more than another year or two.

The hybrid and gas Pacifica engines use the same spark plugs. Chrysler recommends replacing them every 100k miles. As others have already mentioned, this is specified in the owners manual.

Hello Tomek,
As I wrote I replaced only one spark plug and observed that My new spark plugs are not the same. I am waiting for right type of park plugs. Unfortunately I can not give you tutorial because all is disconnected now. I learn youtube. It is this link youtube (Chrysler Pacifica Spark Plugs 3.6 Pentastar tune up TIP. Fuel Pressure sensor. Intake manifold P018C - YouTube). When I will finish my job I will give you my experience.
PS. I bought my car from USA and transfered it to Poland. And I do not know about service. I am try to checking some systems like brakes, oil, coolant, filters... I am thinking now about cleaning throttle and mass flow sensor - I do not observe, that something is wrong with the angine. But when I have all disconnected it is easy to clean something like mass sensor, throttle (it is some dirty, not so much). Or something I should "clean", to set up??? How do you think? Or when it is OK I should do not touch it :) ??? The engine is 100kkm now and I do not think that somebody did this.

Hello Pawel, I do it like you do. What I can do myself will be done. I changed the oil, replaced the filters, and changed the brake fluid. Next up are the spark plugs. I would carefully clean the throttle and sensor. Thanks for the link. Greetings Thomas

There have been upgrades to the plugs due to cracks under TBS, not sure which one. I got my 2020 plugs replaced under warranty due to rough idle., they upgraded the plugs. Make sure you get the latest Mopar part number.
Hello everyone!
I’m new to this forum. Our ‘19 Pacifica Touring has a subtle engine shake/rough idle? We bought the car used with 35k miles..
Should I try replacing the Spark Plugs see if this fixes the issue?
Also, what is the new/updated part number for the plugs? Thanks in advance for the info.
