Got a piece of metal in a rear tire last night and flat (luckily I barely made it to my driveway) The inflater kit wasn't working as the air was leaking about as fast as the pump could supply at around 26psi and quickly deflated when the line was disconnected. So I wound up borrowing a jack and took the tire for repair.

This has me wondering - can the kit be refilled for a reasonable cost? I'm guessing no. Didn't work for me but I'd still like to have t available and my wife's Honda has the same deal.

More generally, this experience has me questioning the wisdom of not supplying a spare and a jack. I don't like the idea of having to call for roadside service, but even so, can those guys even fix a flat when sealant won't work?

You can buy cans like Fix-a-flat and keep a couple of those as backup.

I can’t fit a spare with my camper conversion, but I did add a $20 old fashioned puncture repair kit to my emergency gear. These use a plug that is inserted in the puncture using a special tool, and for common screw and nail punctures, may be enough to drive back to civilization.

Great idea.
You'd still need an air pump

Good idea - the sealant kit is a pump as well, just no sealant after 1 use. Thanks for the links.

You can order anew sealant canister by it is a bit of a challenge to find the right one. I used my sealant to fix a flat and replaced it with a new canister with the same attachment but a larger bottle so it didn't fit in the pump but should work.

How large was the piece of metal? From the owners manual...

NO, AND CANNOT BE REFILLED. Was $125.00 for new kit.

same! no room for a full up tire, but room for pump and patches!

This is the refill I bought for my kit - it is a bit bigger than the OEM cartridge so doesn't fit all the way into the space in the kit but the connection and function are the same.

I had a 1987 chrysler La Baron turbo 290000+ miles 2 transmissions latter traded the car for a 2017 Pacifica with 5000 mi and it has the transmission bad shifts at 2nd and 3rd, and I had tried that stuff with that sealant, and that really is lousy and does not work. So who are they kidding? Customer care? Really! Right on sitting on the roadside for 4 hours even with insurance, it's a guessing game. The only thing I have to say is, I hope that if I need a flat tire that I am close to home.

It would have been better to keep the 87, then private party. Someone would have to be a die-hard Lebaron fan.

Did you pay them extra to take your trade?

This is the best thing that could be done with these vehicles.

I would replace mine if needed with an OEM. But if money is an issue this would be a cheaper alternative and probably would work way better than the OEM kit for temporary sealing.

Slime Smart Spair Flat Tire Repair Kit, 50107 at Tractor Supply Co.

If you like paying more for the same thing Walmart has it too.

Slime Smart Spair Standard Car Emergency Flat Tire Repair Kit with 16 oz. Sealant/12V Inflator - Walmart.com

I do keep one of these in the vehicle next to the OEM inflator kit. I would rather use this temporarily than inject sealant in the tire if not needed.

Slime T-handle Tire Tackle Kit for Flat Tire Repair, 9pc - 20133 - Walmart.com

No way. I sold it to a private party and traded my 2001 Grand Caravan for the Pacifica. The LeBaron just had problems it needed new drive axils and bushings which a friend had taken off my list of things to get rid of. Also it needed another turbo because of the high pitch noise it was making and I did not want to put in another one. That is a very hard part to replace so I received a fair price from my friend who repaired all the the issues. The Caravan needed another trans and had over 350,000 miles. Constant bad shifting so I got $3000 for it and the Pacifica was $20,000 with 5,000 miles on it with full leather interior, just came out of the detail shop the dealer was hard to work with, but he let it go caus I started to walk. The Pacifica gets about 32 MPG and is very comfortable for my wife and I plus our dog Lily the Shar Pei. The Pacifica is the touring model, whatever that means, it does not have the adaptive cruise control. So far nothing too bad has happened, I just watch how I use the gas pedal when it shifts from 2 to 3 then 4. For some odd reason it does a bad hard shift if when you start out and then release the pedal then press it again before it has time to go into the next shift. Other than that it rides very well, quiet, and fast. This leads you into going way over the speed limit so I need to set the max speed warning to remind me. I had checked the price of the van and it was listed at $30,000 or more depending what you needed in it. Just do not like that there is no way to check the trans oil level also that you can not get a shop manual for it. It is very easy to change the engine oil, best feature ever. No spare tire, therefor, I will call AAA for help.

I have a friend who is very good in auto repair and he wanted the La Baron so, I let him have it for $500. He has repaired the problems with it so far. He also has one of the earlier rag top versions which he is restoring.

Glad you made it to the driveway! That's a win.

My wife does a fair amount of travel, often in the middle of the night, and the last thing I want is her on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck because of a gash in a tire. She's good with changing tires so I sourced an OEM wheel for her Limited from a junk yard and put a new tire on it. There are no OEM size steel wheels for her truck. It takes up a good chunk of space in the luggage well, but that has not been an issue. The scissors jack for our Prius V worked to get tires off the ground on her van, so I sourced a used one of those with handle from ebay for like $40 shipped.

Final piece of the puzzle was the lug wrench. I found this at AutoZone. Nice tool, gives lots of power without a lot of effort. I even bought one for my 22 Ram 2500.
