Touring L. Initially, it was the L plus and limited. Now the more reasonable prices touring L gets the tow package as an option. Yeah.

Good, for others, I went ahead and ordered a Limited with every option I could do, but my neighbors want a stripped Pacifica with tow package and they were really upset to have to spend just to get a tow package.

If you've already purchased a Pacifica w/o the tow package you can certainly add a trailer hitch and that would likely work just fine. If you order a Pacifica with the Trailer Tow Group option you get a 'group' of upgrade items:

TRAILER TOW GROUP

1- 220 Amp Alternator - The alternator charges your battery whenever your engine is running and supplies additional electric power for the vehicle's electrical systems.

2- Seven pin and four pin Trailer Tow Wiring Harness

3- Class II Hitch with 2 -Inch Receiver. The Class II receiver hitch available on the Chrysler Pacifica models is a weight-carrying hitch rated up to 3,500 pounds of Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) with a maximum trailer tongue weight of 300 pounds.

4- Heavy Duty Radiator
The heavy-duty radiator is designed to vent excess heat generated by heavy engine use.

5- Trailer Sway Damping
Trailer Sway Control+ recognizes unexpected vehicle or trailer motion that is not caused by steering input. The system then uses Electronic Stability Control+ to apply brake pressure on alternating wheels and adjust engine throttle to help eliminate the sway and maintain the vehicle and trailer system stability.

It's interesting that Chrysler touts the Pacifica as having a towing capacity of 3600 pounds, but the trailer hitch they put on it only has a towing capacity of 3500 pounds. I know it's only 100 pounds difference, but the inconsistency is weird.

Then when you look in the Owner's Manual, it says the towing capacity is 3600 pounds, but to reduce that by 100 pounds if you have in-floor seat storage. Huh? Don't ALL Pacificas (except the hybrid) have in-floor seat storage?

If you didn't order the Trailer Tow Group option the manual says your towing capacity GTW is 1400 lbs (see Thumbnail) which is less that a Class 1 hitch max rating (2000 lb). Installing a Class 2 (3600 lb) hitch or a Class 3 hitch makes for a solid hitch but doesn't increase the 1500-100=1400 lb GTW limit of the Pacifica. If you order the factory Towing Package then you can tow up to 3500 lbs GTW. Apparently that heavy duty radiator and anti sway feature is really important to Chysler.

Oops, correction. A class 2 hitch has a rating of 3500 lbs GTW, not 3600 as I stated above.

Well, hmmm..., I wonder why the manual would so clearly show 3600 pounds GTW and then take 100 pounds back in the fine print associated with an asterisk!? Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but I thought my salesman told me the Pacifica with Trailer Tow Package had "superior" towing capability to its main competitor when, in fact, Pacifica, Sienna and Odyssey are all 3500 lbs (assuming I am now reading the manuals correctly).

I have a question: If the manual did say 3600 pound GTW towing capacity, without the asterisk reducing it to 3500 pounds then wouldn't the Trailer Tow Package need to include a more expensive and heavier class 3 hitch since class 2 hitches are generally rated up to 3500 lbs.

If the asterisk wasn't there for the seats, I would think they'd have to replace it with another asterisk that says that the hitch itself is limited to 3500 pounds. If there was no asterisk at all, they would have to use a hitch with a capacity of at least 3600 pounds, which would make it more than Class II, but not enough to be considered Class III. That would be confusing (not that it isn't already). For all intents and purposes, the towing capacity of the Pacifica with the tow package is 3500 pounds. They should just remove all references to 3600 pounds to avoid confusion.

Haha. Their main competitors are both 3500 pounds. Call me cynical but......
In that case, they should advertise that the Pacifica can tow 10,000 pounds, but put an asterisk that says if your Pacifica has wheels, reduce the capacity to 3500 pounds.

I came here to ask the same question. So it doesn't have an oil cooler, just a larger radiator? Is the radiator actually larger or does it just add a oil cooler element as part of it? The larger alternator and electronics shouldn't be needed for towing. I get the electronics could help but people have been towing 3500 lbs with just sticking a hitch on for decades.
I'm just searching for a technical reason I can't tow 3500 lbs twice a year for a couple of hour trip if i don't get the tow package. It's really hard for me to find one on a lot and I'm thinking about going with another brand unless I can get this resolved.

any one has pic with back end view, I would like to know what it looks like, and does rear waive your foot to open still works?
I don't have a pic of mine handy, but here's a pic that I found online. I like the integrated look much better than an add-on hitch below the bumper.

The hands free feature does still work. You just kick your foot to either side of the hitch instead of right in the middle.
