hi, i have about 6500mi on my early build limited.
i noticed that the transmission refuses to shift to last gear, even downhill, or when coasting, and stays in 8th gear, even when throttle at 0%.
as such its causing engine to stay at 2k rpm at 70mph, vs 1500rpm in 9th, and obviously fuel eco is at 28mpg vs 35mpg when in last gear.
on road trips, it often takes 45min of constant speed before it will shift to last gear..
i plan on taking it to chrysler, but any one else notice same thing?

I think this is pretty normal. I've had my Cherokee for 2.5 years and I've never seen it hit 9th gear. Not even once.

Interesting. I guess mine goes to 9th pretty often. I was driving it yesterday and was amazed that it was showing instant mpg of 35mpg at 70 MPH on a flat surface. I want to say the rpm was at around 1500.

I'm at about 1500 rpms at 70mph in my Cherokee, but that's only 8th gear. It's easier to tell what gear you're in with the Cherokee though.

Even more interesting. I wonder if the overdrive gearing is the same between the Cherokee and the Pacifica?

Don't know why they didn't let the "D" be a number or some such idea. That's one of the annoying things I wish they could fix
Agreed. This has been one of my biggest pet peeves for a while too..

i came from a 2015 mazda cx9 gt, and that had a display in cluster that showed what gear car was in at all times, just in regular D, and gear number beside it, it was beautiful knowing, i m a car guy, so i apreciated that info.
really wish pacifica had either that or paddles or something, so you can force car into a certain gear when conditions permit.

Yeah, I don't really know. Could be completely different.

7th, 8th & 9th gears are all overdrive gears. Depending on trans controller logic of various factors (especially mph, rpm & throttle position ), it will pick one of those to settle in while cruising. Depending on your driving environment, 9th may not be used much if at all. I like to think of this tranny as a 7 speed with 3 overdrive ratio options for 7th gear. I agree on only having "D" as an option is a negative especially when towing heavy loads with the tow package. I can speak from experience having towed with the Pacifica through the Rockies this past summer. Had to do a lot of continuous foot adjustment with the throttle to prevent what I thought was excessive shifting.

I wonder if some of the "Chrysler connections" guys could either start a "gee I wish you would have...." thread that will get monitored by FCA, or maybe see if they can remedy the cluster display. I know its asking a lot, but the little stuff is like a splinter in the finger... its just a bother :|

Inexpensive OBD scan tools that support enhanced Chrysler PIDs might do the trick. Here's an alphabetical list of enhanced OBD PIDs for Chrysler and "present gear" is on the list.

Interesting idea. I have a BlueDriver Bluetooth OBDII tool that I can try when the Pacifica gets here.

The owner's manual says the center display can be configured to display what gear you are in but that feature didn't make it to production software.

Really? What page? Maybe we will get it in a future update. I've even looked on the UConnect "engineering screen" in our Pacifica hoping to find "present gear" but nada.

Pgs 184 & 185 says current gear was an option for display in center or lower right of information screen.
I see what you're talking about. But I think by "current gear", they just mean P,R,N or D.
