I had heard about Chrysler/Jeep transmission problems, but went ahead anyway with the purchase. Well, here I sit on the side of the road with my Pacifica not able to drive anywhere. The car made a terrible grinding sound, then I immediately pulled over and when I tried to put it in Park or shut it off, nothing happened. Engine was revving to high for Park. After about 30-45 seconds I was able to switch to park, but the car rolls back (I'm on a hill) like it's in neutral. If I put it in drive I just hear a grinding sound. I'm no mechanic, but I would say the transmission is broken. Once it's towed in who knows how long it will take to repair. Loved the Pacifica until the transmission stories I have read about have come true. By the way, since the dealer I'm taking the car to wasn't the one I purchased it from because I moved recently, they won't give a loaner. I called Chrysler Care through my assist in the car and they "escalated it to their rental car area". Hopefully they will do something. Will keep you updated on what happens.

Hi RAC. Sorry to hear about this! Did you by chance get any of the Mopar extended warranty options? That will guarantee you a rental car. If not, I think Chrysler will still give you one for something like this, but it might take jumping through some hoops. Keep us posted!

Just got home, while driving through our community on our main road which has a 25 MPH speed limit I set the cruise control at 26MPH. The vehicle found a gear (unknown which), and engine RPMs revved to about 3000. The vehicle would not shift up, even after canceling the cruise. Eventually it seemed to get back to normal, and upshifted and RPMs fell to around 1200-1500. Up to this point the car has been great, but I'll be keeping a close eye on this. (Touring-L, built 12/15/2016).

Just noticed a few days ago that I'm getting a hard shift somewhere around 1500 rpm. It doesn't always happen, but that's about where it is when it does. Not doing anything special, just normal traffic light changes.... I'm showing just over 6500 miles and bought it back in June. I did have a loose transmission cover replaced about a month after having it, but that was caught quickly enough so it shouldn't have caused any other problems.

Transmission problem update-Chrysler responsiveness

No idea yet on the timing of the repair/probable replacement of my transmission, but I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised about the response from Chrysler. I received an email post from Kori at Chrysler cares, and I just received a call from Chrysler corporate making sure I was all set with a loaner car and that they would follow up with the dealer. Very impressed with their response so far. The gentleman from Chrysler said it should take about 5-7 days to do a replacement of the transmission without any parts delays. Hopefully they have all the parts needed. Will keep you posted.

Transmission update

I just heard from the service department that the problem is not the transmission, but a broken axle. He said 3-4 days to get parts. It wouldn't drive because the transmission was spinning freely. I'm not a mechanic, that's just what I was told. Hopefully it will all be fine soon. Couldn't ask for a better response from a car company, very pleased how Chrysler handled it, they really made it feel like the customer being happy was very important.

Very glad to hear that it's not the transmission and that Chrysler is taking car or you. Chrysler gets a bad rap for past performance, but I've had nothing but good experience with them since they became FCA. I think it's important to remember that FCA is not the same company that Daimler Chrysler was.

Pacifica dead again

After initially thinking I had a transmission problem the dealer fixed a broken axel. Well, unfortunately my Pacifica sits in my driveway with the same problem a week later. I'm again waiting for a tow truck and will be without my car. Not really enjoying driving a Town and Country when I paid for a Pacifica. Not sure if anyone has had an axel problem, but my car sure does.

That sucks big time. And to have the same exact issue is crazy. I will be curious what they say is the issue to resolve this time. 2 bad axles within weeks of each other on the same car... something has got to be CAUSING the axle to go out.

im guessing the axle joints are breaking, not the axle.

Sorry to hear... Keep us updated on what they finally do to get the issue resolved.

Are your 22" wheels and tires same diameter as factory?

The OP has non standard wheels on his van? Are you sure they are 22"? My OEM 20" fit the wheel well, I would not think that 22"s could fit.
Love to see a picture of this.
Thanks, John

yes, there is a thread where posts pics. Im worried that his might not have maintained same diameter, and is now causing excess stress on drivetrain.

Ive been wrong before... haha

I know nothing as well but the axle issues he is having seem in some part related to the 22" wheels as I have not seen this same issue on others yet.

Or a crazy offset? No blaming RAC, as I love me some aftermarket wheels.
