Sounds like maybe there is a flaw in the USB housing on the seat backs? Does the problem with some of these USB sticks that you can't slide all the way in occur the same no matter which port you plug it into (front vs seat back)?
The USB ports on the seat backs are only for charging. You can't play anything from those.

I wanted to add my $0.02 having just got my Pacifica today and (thankfully) stumbled upon this forum before pulling my hair out. First off, this thread saved me quite a bit of frustration because of the whole dual port thing. From my vantage point I couldn't see the port next to the BluRay player, so I probably would've spent a few hours trying to figure that out if it wasn't for the thread.

I did run into some problems with a 16GB USB key, but it has seen better times and is known to be finicky with anything other than a full-fledged computer. I decided to have a little fun, and I took my old Mac Book Pro SSD that I have in an external case and tried that out. There was no luck with it formatted in Fat32, but I switched over to a Windows 10 VM, reformatted it to NTFS, and it's working beautifully whereas the 16GB stick is stuck in the dreaded "Reading USB" state after working once. I unplugged and replugged the MBP SSD several times, and it was detected and browsable within a second each time. This is a 256GB drive, so it looks like the max potential for supported drive sizes is higher than the 128GB cue003 found. The system also didn't have an issue with chaptered m4v files.

I'm going to try setting up movies a few different ways to see what works and what doesn't. The less I can re-encode the better.

has anyone figured out how to make the system continue with a movie if left say overnight? My kids are seeing a lot of the first 30 minutes of many of the files i have loaded on my usb stick.

Thanks

It would be great if they fixed this or made a setting to resume upon exit. Like you say it is kind of annoying for 2h videos to always go from the start and the FF isn't long enough forward intervals. Actually just making the Fast forward more functional on the USB would be fine too.

I'm thinking the easiest way around these limitations is to load up your phone or tablet with videos and connect it to an HDMI input, either via cable or Miracast.

My wife has a Lumia 950 phone with a 128GB MicroSD card in it, so we were thinking of getting one of these wireless display adapters to plug into one of the seat back HDMI inputs:
https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/products/adapters/wireless-display-adapter-2/p3q-00001

Alternatively, with an Android phone you could use an Amazon Fire Stick.

I expect this method would have fewer file compatibility problems and would allow you control playback easily from the front seat. Has anyone tried this?

This is really no problem.

When the movie is playing anyone can tap the screen and the progress bar appears. Simply jump to where the movie left off. It only takes a second. I found I can select different parts in the movie and it changes to that spot almost instantaneously.

That only works if you have an older kid in the backseat that can control it. It's MUCH harder to find your spot from the front seat when you have a 2 year old in the back.

Ha.. that's the same situation we're in. I've learned where to reach back and press on the screen to touch the progress bar without looking at it. Then I just look at the time on the front display to see if I got close enough.. :smile2:

Although that being said, our 2 year old usually isn't really that picky about exactly WHERE in the movie we start, so as long as I can get it close, we call it good..

lol, well I didnt realize that was an option since no one (including adults in front seat) have ever really touched the rear screens. I'll have to get some flexibility training to reach around back to the screen. Thanks for the heads up. Still would like a better FF option or a scroll time bar available in the front seat, be way easier to control from the front.

I'll try placing the movie as mirror to the front screen and check to see if it has a time scroll bar too, but thought had tried that prior without success. Otherwise, long reach here we come.

I agree that a scroll bar on the front screen would be ideal. Advancing 10 seconds at a time doesn't help much when you were 40-50 minutes into a movie..

Edit: Actually, "ideal" would be for the system to just remember where you were..

If the car is in park, the movie plays in the full frame in the front. I don't remember if it has the scroll bar at the bottom though.

I am about to start setting up my Uconnect theater thanks for doing all that hard work. You spoke of a workaround hmm I guess you found it. Do you know if it will support MP4A (audio files) if not I'll let you know as I will be testing that shortly.

If I were advising someone considering the UC-theater it would be "forget it"!

In general I am under the opinion that Chrysler has a ton of work to do to make the system better. It is a sin to think that someone designed the system so poorly and that the Brass let it out the door!!

My Old T&C' 2011 & 2014 were so easy to operate this new system could almost result in an accident if you need to reset something while driving I could use a UConnect operator with me when I drive.

I agree with this 110%. I have zero complaints about my Pacifica van itself, But the Theater entertainment system is a complete failure in my mind. My next trip to the dealer, I'm going to be asking for all the TSB's they have for this system. Hoping at the very least I don't have to constantly reseat the USB drive, or my kids don't have to keep watching a movie (no matter the media or format) from the beginning every single time.

Thanks Everyone!

I want to thank everyone for all of the hard work you put into this throughout this thread. Because of everything I read, I just plugged in a USB (in the correct port!) and it is working flawlessly :) It's even a ScanDisk 128 (FAT32, even plays a file over 2 GB).

Now, to pass on some wisdom. If you are like us and have a lot of google play movies and don't have unlimited data to stream them to a chromecast while on the go...yet you have Netflix or Hulu or Amazon movies, look into a media recorder like playon.tv. We were able to record many of our movies and move them to USB (plus a ton more...they are still moving). It's $40 for a whole lot of entertainment at your fingertips (well, USB) with no wifi hassle.

Thanks again for all the previous knowledge. I now have a crush on our uconnect system, but I surely would not have if it were for you pioneers and testers on this thread.

Thanks everyone for the insight on this. Just to add one more note. I purchased 2 - 128 Sandisks for our movies. Since they came formatted to FAT32 I just loaded them up and plugged them in. No luck. After a bit of digging, there are a few files on the new disks that needed to be deleted. Once deleted I plugged it back in and it worked like a charm. If you remove the Sandisk preloaded files first before adding videos you should not have any issues.
