I live in Germany, so my english is far from good. Two weeks ago i bought a Pacifica Hybrid 2020 and since then i try to implement the cover art into my movies. The advice to use MKV Tag Editor was very helpful, so that i could integrate the movie names. In the editor i also loaded the cover art, but in the car there is no thumbail or cover art of the movie. It always shows the standard thumbnail and i don't know how to change it.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Marco
Super late reply, but this thread was just bumped so happened to see it. I’ve had better luck using mp4 containers when it comes to cover art. Never got mkv cover art to work, although I didn’t try super hard once I had success with mp4.

Just got a 2022 PacHy Limited and I'm pulling my hair out on trying to play files off a thumb drive. I've loaded videos on three different thumb drives of varying capcities. I've tried fat32 and ntfs, I've loaded 720 and 1080 mp4s and mkvs. I've personally handbrake movies to match other specs talked about in this thread. Literally can't ever get the thumb drive to show anything. I'm starting to feel like maybe the usb port marked "rear" is just not working. Trying to avoid going back to the dealership for this but I'm running out of solutions. Hoping someone here may be able to provide me with an Aha moment. Please! And thank you.

USB will play movies but no audio?
Verified audio was in fact copied onto the USB drive.
When I select "Listen" on the screen, no audio

However, DVD audio works fine.

files are mp4 format

Anyone else having same issue (Video but no audio)

Thanks

Hi everyone. I have a 2022 Touring Hybrid. I had some luck so I wanted to share. I'm using a Sandisk Fit USB 3.0. I used handbrake to rip to MKV. I had problems until I read that we needed to rename the volume. Welp, I noticed that my volume name had an underscore: KID_MEDIA. I changed it to KIDMEDIA and it worked. I suspect that certain characters make the Uconnect software fail. Hopefully this helps!

I have a 2021 and I am having the same issue. Can not get it to recognize any of the different drives I have used. It's going to the dealer on Monday. We will see if they offer a fix.

I will try that and report back to see if it worked.

Got a 2022 PacHy Pinnacle and got the same problem. Tried fat 32, NTFS, 128gb drive, 16gb drive, mp4/mkv movies, max 720p and 1200 max width.. Every possible trick I found on forums. Still nothing working.. Anybody got new developments on the matter? Really frustrating.

I went to the dealer for the 3rd time with my 2021. They were finally able to update the VRM to the newest version, which is 2114.12 on my 2021. I have tried Lexar, SanDisk, Samsung, PNY, and Memorex drives, ranging from 16GB to 128GB, and i have tried multiple formats, xFAT, FAT32, and NTFS, with various block sizes. The one that finally worked was a Memorex 64GB YSB 2.0 drive, in FAT32. All the movies are in MP4 format, 720p, with either 5.1 surround or stereo.

New handbrake presets

I've attached updated handbrake presets. This re-enables the H.264 main profile, and they are built with Handbrake 1.1.2 on Linux. This requires to VRM to be at at least 17.50.13, which you can check on the rear screen under settings. If it's not, ask your dealer about service bulletin 08-007-18 REV. A.

MKV and MP4 versions are identical except the container. Both work fine in the van, but if you have devices that work better with MP4, choose it instead. Editing metadata and adding cover art is easier with MKV.

I started with the H.264 MKV 720p30 as it was the closest match to the screen and in the more versatile MKV container. MP4 works just as well if you have other devices that have better compatibility with one or the other, and it's closest to the "Android 720p30" preset.

I set Anamorphic to loose, which closely matches the pixel aspect ratio of the source. This allows HD content to keep close-to-square pixels optimized for the screen size, and for anamorphic DVDs to remain stored anamorphically to conserve space/quality. If you are only encoding HD sources for Uconnect, then turning anamorphic off will enforce square pixels which is probably better.

Previously I switched the H.264 profile to baseline, as the main profile resulted in dropped frames and stuttered video. The van seemed to handle the baseline profile better. But as of VRM version 17.50.13, the van seems to handle the main profile just fine, so I've dropped that change.

I added English as the default audio language so international movies will include the track my kids can understand. If your kids are multi-lingual or not native English speakers, you might want to change this.

I left the audio at 2-channel AAC Dolby Pro Logic II as I found the van can kind of decode the Pro Logic if you use the surround mode, and it still sounds pretty good in headphones or just in stereo.

I also unchecked the boxes to burn DVD or Blu-ray subtitles into the video, as I didn't want these burned in. Feel free to adjust the subtitle defaults to your tastes.

I did not remove chapters. The van doesn't currently use them, but they take up very little space, and might be supported in a future update, or if you use the files on another platform. Some remove them because the van uses the title of chapter 1 if you don't have a title set. So be sure to set a title in the tags tab before you start encoding a movie.

I got the 256 GB SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.1 drive. It's tiny and will hold around 128 movies since with this preset, each movie is around 2 GB. If you have a smaller drive, you could reduce the quality a bit to save space. I liked RF: 21, but I think I'd be ok with RF: 23 and it would produce smaller files. Also, I formatted the drive with FAT32. I think it's the right choice for maximum support and minimizing the chances of misusing file security features, but it does limit file size to 4 GB. The van does not support exFAT.

To summarize my procedure:
1. Open the source in Handbrake with the Uconnect preset.
2. Set the output filename at the top, and set the Title in the "Tags" tab (if you have that in your interface)
3. Optionally set anamorphic to off for HD sources which you are only encoding for Uconnect or smaller screens.
4. Optionally set "Tune" to match your content. "Animation" for older hand-drawn animated movies. "Film" for 3D animations and live action.
5. Begin encoding.
6. Look for a good cover art, like at fanart.tv (Movie Thumbs at the bottom of each page) or themoviedb.org (choose backdrops in English).
7. Convert the movie thumb to a format that works well with Uconnect using imagemagick:
convert $FILE -background none -gravity center -resize 800x600 -extent 800x600 cover.png
8. Once handbrake is done, use mkvtoolnix to attach cover.png to the .mkv file. Or if you chose mp4, then find an mp4 tag editor for you operating system. I don't have a common recommendation yet. I used easytag in Linux.
9. Copy onto the USB flash drive for the car.

Hope this winds up being some useful information for someone. I think my kids will enjoy having a personal movie collection for long trips.
I thought i'd reply to this post because it was the most recent handbrake presets by @jbelbel who I can't seem to link in this post, but if he is, or anybody else has an answer.

Does anybody have a working preset for handbrake version 1.5 or 1.6? When I tried using the presets in post #183, the newer versions of handbrake say its not a valid file.

That's excellent, I'll give that a shot.

Could I just install version 1.2 load the preset then make a list of all the settings and then reinstall version 1.6 and change all the settings to the same from 1.2?

Reason why I'm asking, I had 1.2 before and upgraded to like 1.4, after the upgrade it said the presets were no good and removed them.

So I could go back to 1.2 and just stay there, but I was hoping the newer version would encode quicker or have better features, better compatability to Uconnect, ect.

The real reason I upgraded at all was because I just got Alice in Wonderland 1985 version on DVD, and when I tried to rip it with handbrake 1.2, I ended up getting a bunch of stuttering and gibberish in the picture, buy when I watch the DVD it plays flawlessly. This made me think Sony has some kind of copyright blocking measures, I was hoping version 1.6 would get around.

EDIT:I probably need to install something like libdvdcss to use handbrake.

You can also try using MakeMKV - Make MKV from Blu-ray and DVD

I use it for blu-ray but it works for dvds too. I then use handbrake to encode it to mkv.

I think it's somehow trying to read the user settings from your previous installation.
Uninstall handbrake and then delete the Handbrake folder in %APPDATA%
Make sure the folder %ProgramFiles%\HandBrake doesn't exist after you delete it.

Now reinstall and it should work

I'll give this a whirl.

EDIT: Totally worked! For others that may find this helpful, %APPDATA% is hidden, so you need to change your view settings in file explorer to see the hidden folder, then I just searched for all "handbrake" folders, there were 2-3, deleted those, rebooted, then the reinstall of 1.2.2 worked without a hitch.

got 1.2.2 reinstalled on my desktop, used makemkv to rip the dvd, now encoding with handbrake, and i'll try in the van tomorrow.

HUGE THANK YOU, @h man!!! :D
