Uconnect4 8.4" Software Updates v28.3 AND v40.1 AND VRM Update 2114.12

7326 Views 118 Replies 27 Participants Last post by  Tmccain4
To my fellow Chrysler Pacifica Owners,

I've attached the Files for North American, US/CN Chrysler Pacifica with Uconnect 4 8.4" screen require to fully update your Audio Units to the (at this time) current Software Version 40.1 Per Chrysler TSB: 08-076-23

They are organized into separate folders For US/CN (UAV/UCV); and VRM is separate.
Currently I have only the 40.1 Update for our Canadian Friends, when I get ahold of the 28.3 file, I will upload it and update this post

UPDATE

I've now ALSO included the VRM (Video Routing Module) Software Update Per TSB 08-018-21 REV A.
Please note: It is currently unknown if this update works for Canadian vehicles. If someone tries it and is successful, please let me know so that I can update the information accordingly.

UPDATE #2

At the bottom I've attached photos showing which ports to use for each Update thanks to @ThisSuckersElectrical for taking the time to take, mark and post these photos for everyone to use as a reference.

Please Follow the Instructions carefully when creating the USB Stick per the TSB.
I will also recommend, as with ALL software programming and Updating, regardless of what module on a vehicle...

1a) Ensure your vehicle battery is properly charged BEFORE attempting the updates,
or
1b)
hook up a battery charger of at least 10A, preferably 20A to ensure battery voltage is maintained.

2) >> I << set my key position to the 'Acc' position during updates instead of the 'Run' position, this allows the audio unit and USB ports to power up, but not wasting energy on the rest of the vehicle while updating.

3) the files being provided DO NOT include any MAP specific updates, that's a problem for you to sort, do NOT link MAP specific updates here please to keep this thread clean and specific to the actual SOFTWARE Update.

4a) Perform these updates at >> YOUR OWN RISK << As with ANY software update, things CAN happen. If you follow the instructions in the TSB, and have a battery charger hooked up (preferable option) you SHOULDN'T have any issues.

4b) As far as I know, these files are for US Market Pacifica's. I do no know, nor do I guarantee that these updates work on vehicle outside of the US market.
If you try it on a NON-US Market Pacifica, do so at YOUR OWN RISK.

5) If you feel uncomfortable performing these updates, DON'T. Go to your Dealer, if they are no help, try asking Chrysler Cares for Help. They have been FANTASTIC at helping multiple owners to have audio update issues resolved.

*

6a) SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING Specifically the VRM UPDATE: If you're like me, and had REALLY old VRM Firmware (mine was 17.xx) The update will automatically run TWICE, once to get you to 19.xx, and then run again to update to 2114.12.

6b) Do not unplug your USB stick until it's fully updated, and the units return to the 'HOME' screen. At first it will say updates completed, going to sleep. (it's actually rebooting) Then you'll see the Chrysler Splash screen, after a long first load you'll get to the home screen. THEN, you can remove the USB stick. (I'd probably suggest you double check software version under the setting menu through the REAR screens to verify first)

6c) The upgrade option will pop up on both screens, and it does not matter which screen you Start the process from, But note during the update, ONLY the left (driver's screen) will show progress. Passenger screen will not come back on until FINAL reboot when the Chrysler Splash screen comes up.

7) The VRM TSB has incomplete instructions to create the USB stick, but it is the same as the Uconnect update. Extract files to the base USB drive, not in a folder, and the USB stick MUST be FAT32 File format.

8) This is a suggestion, take it as you will.. I am not a fan of unplugging live modules... that's how you brick things.
My Procedure:

a) Turn on Vehicle completely (as tsb states)
b) Remove all dvd's, usbs, chargers, etc etc.
c) After rear screens fully booted up to the 'HOME' screen, Plug in usb into USB port next to BlueRay Player (per TSB)
d) Rear screens will pop up showing update, Click upgrade (again, doesn't matter which screen), and let it do it's thing.

Update Port for UCONNECT UPDATE ONLY

Update Port for VRM UPDATE ONLY

After Update(s) have been completed notes worth mentioning:

After you final update is complete and the Audio unit reboots, and you verify everything updated and versions are correct, I'd suggest leaving the vehicle on for about another 10-15 min. You'll notice many of your apps will initially be unavailable.

After the audio unit does it's reboot, you'll notice on the bottom left corner, in smaller print, the audio unit will start installing all of your apps in the background. I, would suggest letting all of those complete so there's no issues in the future. The TSB doesn't mention anything about it, but as a precaution, I'd go ahead and let all of them install in one swing so your next drive is good and ready to go (y)

The Uconnect update on your flash drive should look like this. All the files extracted should be in an unzipped folder.

I did this, leaving the USB in after the long boot and after the boot, I got the "invalid update" message indicating can't update to the same version (in other words, all up-to-date). I then removed the USB drive.

I noticed only the "are we there yet?" game appeared on the home screen. I clicked the apps, and I saw more games listed, but they had no icons/graphics. I tried to open one of the games that was missing the icon and it just went to basically a blank screen, showing just a large arrow cursor and the stock background image, but no game loaded. I
was concerned that it somehow the upgrade failed, but I thought I'd try a reboot before stressing out. I turned everything off, opened the driver door, shut the door, turned the van to ACC power, and turned the rear system back on. I then went to rear and looked at the games, and they were all looking like they should and all opened properly now. Woot!

I wanted to mention this in case this app issue happens to anyone else, to try to power down/reboot.

Thanks very, very much @C-los for obtaining and sharing these files along with your extra guidance. It is very much appreciated! And thanks to the others who have also contributed guidance in this thread. Cheers!

On a different note, I've enabled mobile hotspot on the radio but when I go to the AT&T site to re-register my Pacifica, I'm still getting a "In-car Wi-Fi hotspot service is currently unavailable for your vehicle". Hopefully, it's simply a matter of waiting a day or two for it to re-sync/detect the new software.

Mine took the hotspot basically immediately. Are you sure you did the radio updates and not just the VRM updates?

Yes, I updated the radio to 40.1. I only needed the latter update, not both radio updates. I confirmed the radio version numbers in dealer mode after letting all the radio apps reinstall.

My radio is now on:
Software Version: 22.34.11
Application Version: USA-SBX-8.4-QR-40.1.0-20220821-Q0J0
BootMicro Version: 22.16.01

I previously was on:
Software Version: 20.04.13
Application Version: USA-SBX-8.4-JR-34.1.0-20200121-J0RM

I checked the AT&T website again today and got the same message when trying to re-register.

The lack of this functionality is not as much of a worry for me anymore, since I've recently changed our cell phone plan from a legacy fixed data per month one to an unlimited data one, so I'll likely never use the Pacifica's hotspot again, but it still bothers me that its not an option yet.

I'll give it more time and hope it works itself out.

Just to double check..

Stupid question, did you turn on the in vehicle 4g hot spot? you should see a white "Wi-Fi" icon if it's on, but not connecting... if it's blue, then you've connected and but having a different issue (either att or vehicle side)

Yes, I enabled the WiFi hotspot functionality on the radio (in-vehicle), hoping that it might trigger some kind of "phone home" to AT&T that would let them know I'm running the latest software/application, but so far AT&T is still showing that hotspot is currently unavailable for my vehicle. I don't have access to the vehicle at the moment to look to see what color the checkmark is. I think it was blue, but I can confirm tonight or this weekend.

After you turn on the wifi connect to the hotspot then try to go to a webpage.. it will redirect you to AT&T and trying to get you to buy a package then it seems to reflect on their main site.

Sounds like Uconnect is stuck in the previous state of error/s regarding the WiFi hotspot after the upgrade.

Try pulling fuse 76 and let it sit for a few minutes. Then reinsert the fuse, start the vehicle, let it run for a couple of minutes, power it down, open the driver's door, allow time for the Uconnect system to shut off, close the driver's door, then restart it and wait for it to finish resyncing the modules. Then see if anything has changed.

If that doesn't work after it relearns/syncs the modules then ¯\(ツ)

If you get it working this is the website for the AT&T hotspot. I am sure you already have this.

AT&T (att.com)

If you have AT&T cellular service I highly advise NOT merging your WiFi hotspot with your cellular account. Keep them separate. I did that and had to transfer it back. It was a nightmare getting it back to a stand-alone account. They will charge you monthly government fees, surcharges, and taxes if it is merged with your AT&T cellular account. Over $6.00 extra in additional fees each month in my case. In the AT&T myvehicle account, it is a flat rate. I have been paying $15.00 a month for unlimited data for almost 4 years now and transferred my data plan from my 2018 to my 2021.

When I transferred the data plan from 2018 to 2021, I had to call and they encouraged me to merge them for easy billing. It was easy before except two different accounts and logins. After 4 months and seeing I was going to be paying over $77.00 extra a year in additional fees I was like nope, move this back to my other account. After it was moved myvehicle account would log in to a blank page. Took them over 6 months to fix the issue and I had to work directly with the AT&T IT support techs in Warsaw Poland to get it resolved.

I tried the AT&T mobile hotspot sign up again just now (without pulling fuse, simply waiting a couple days after updating radio software), and this time I didn't get the error message.. WOOT! I'm now able to sign up for AT&T hotspot service for the Pacifica, if I waned to.

Thanks, everyone!

Honestly for 15$ a month I might bite.. I've never got that offer again sadly..

The price is too good for me to to let it go. I bet if you call them and ask for it they will give it to you. There is a speacial number for that department though.

I also get unlimited access to all the content in this app that can be streamed from phones or tablets to the rear theater screens (device mirroing/streaming only through Android devices) when connected to the in vehicle WiFi. iPads and iPhones can use it too but only on the device no streaming to the rear theater screens. I have had 4 different devices streaming different content from this app at one time while traveling with no issues. The app only works when connected to the in-vehicle WiFi.

I've had it before and it was "decent" but had problems(due to firmware issues with uconnect which should be solved) so I actually do want to try it again just because it has better reach and stuff.

Anyone have an issue with the heated/vented seats/steering wheel not working after the update? I have the buttons available, but they are all greyed out.

No, try pulling fuse 76 and let it sit for a minute or two, then put it back in. It will take some time for Uconnect to resync with all the modules.
Also, after the update, leave the audio unit on (preferably with vehicle running for battery sake), due to afte the update, the Audio unit has to reinstall all of the new "Apps". you'll notice i think on the bottom left corner a tiny CLI screen text showing the installation of a BUNCH of software apps. takes another couple of minutes for it to all finish. once its' done shut the vehicle down, and restart it. should have all of you apps up and running.
Thanks, I let it sit overnight and everything is back to normal. In fact, it also fixed my issue with CarPlay not working previously.

Thank you OP!

here is my report back:

Canadian ‘19 Gas Limited + Theater pack

I applied the VRM succefully! It has some visual tweaks and interestingly new games etc!

The Uconnect software does not get applied and throws an error that is not compatible right away. Currently on 39.2. My Uconnect radio mainboard is a replacement though as the original radio went in to the dreaded boot cycle loop. I just opened it up and found the mainboard on eBay and replaced it. Everything works except for GPS and the vehicle modem which I don’t care anyway. Small price to pay to get back all the other functions! ($70 vs $1500!)

GOOD News for OUR Canadian Friends, I have just uploaded the 'Canadian' 40.1 software update! If anyone gives it a shot, send me a PM or reply here to let me know if everything went through alright, please. I will update the Main Post in a bit once I know the file works.

THANKS!

Does anyone know if this gets rid of the Yelp icon? I have a 2017 with the 3G network radio so many things aren't functional including the Yelp.
Negative. This is for the 2018+ 8.4" Uconnect 4 screen. 2017 has a totally different audio unit. Sorry.
