Uconnect4 8.4" Software Updates v28.3 AND v40.1 AND VRM Update 2114.12

To my fellow Chrysler Pacifica Owners,

I've attached the Files for North American, US/CN Chrysler Pacifica with Uconnect 4 8.4" screen require to fully update your Audio Units to the (at this time) current Software Version 40.1 Per Chrysler TSB: 08-076-23

They are organized into separate folders For US/CN (UAV/UCV); and VRM is separate.
Currently I have only the 40.1 Update for our Canadian Friends, when I get ahold of the 28.3 file, I will upload it and update this post

UPDATE

I've now ALSO included the VRM (Video Routing Module) Software Update Per TSB 08-018-21 REV A.
Please note: It is currently unknown if this update works for Canadian vehicles. If someone tries it and is successful, please let me know so that I can update the information accordingly.

UPDATE #2

At the bottom I've attached photos showing which ports to use for each Update thanks to @ThisSuckersElectrical for taking the time to take, mark and post these photos for everyone to use as a reference.

Please Follow the Instructions carefully when creating the USB Stick per the TSB.
I will also recommend, as with ALL software programming and Updating, regardless of what module on a vehicle...

1a) Ensure your vehicle battery is properly charged BEFORE attempting the updates,
or
1b)
hook up a battery charger of at least 10A, preferably 20A to ensure battery voltage is maintained.

2) >> I << set my key position to the 'Acc' position during updates instead of the 'Run' position, this allows the audio unit and USB ports to power up, but not wasting energy on the rest of the vehicle while updating.

3) the files being provided DO NOT include any MAP specific updates, that's a problem for you to sort, do NOT link MAP specific updates here please to keep this thread clean and specific to the actual SOFTWARE Update.

4a) Perform these updates at >> YOUR OWN RISK << As with ANY software update, things CAN happen. If you follow the instructions in the TSB, and have a battery charger hooked up (preferable option) you SHOULDN'T have any issues.

4b) As far as I know, these files are for US Market Pacifica's. I do no know, nor do I guarantee that these updates work on vehicle outside of the US market.
If you try it on a NON-US Market Pacifica, do so at YOUR OWN RISK.

5) If you feel uncomfortable performing these updates, DON'T. Go to your Dealer, if they are no help, try asking Chrysler Cares for Help. They have been FANTASTIC at helping multiple owners to have audio update issues resolved.

*

6a) SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING Specifically the VRM UPDATE: If you're like me, and had REALLY old VRM Firmware (mine was 17.xx) The update will automatically run TWICE, once to get you to 19.xx, and then run again to update to 2114.12.

6b) Do not unplug your USB stick until it's fully updated, and the units return to the 'HOME' screen. At first it will say updates completed, going to sleep. (it's actually rebooting) Then you'll see the Chrysler Splash screen, after a long first load you'll get to the home screen. THEN, you can remove the USB stick. (I'd probably suggest you double check software version under the setting menu through the REAR screens to verify first)

6c) The upgrade option will pop up on both screens, and it does not matter which screen you Start the process from, But note during the update, ONLY the left (driver's screen) will show progress. Passenger screen will not come back on until FINAL reboot when the Chrysler Splash screen comes up.

7) The VRM TSB has incomplete instructions to create the USB stick, but it is the same as the Uconnect update. Extract files to the base USB drive, not in a folder, and the USB stick MUST be FAT32 File format.

8) This is a suggestion, take it as you will.. I am not a fan of unplugging live modules... that's how you brick things.
My Procedure:

a) Turn on Vehicle completely (as tsb states)
b) Remove all dvd's, usbs, chargers, etc etc.
c) After rear screens fully booted up to the 'HOME' screen, Plug in usb into USB port next to BlueRay Player (per TSB)
d) Rear screens will pop up showing update, Click upgrade (again, doesn't matter which screen), and let it do it's thing.

Update Port for UCONNECT UPDATE ONLY

Update Port for VRM UPDATE ONLY

After Update(s) have been completed notes worth mentioning:

After you final update is complete and the Audio unit reboots, and you verify everything updated and versions are correct, I'd suggest leaving the vehicle on for about another 10-15 min. You'll notice many of your apps will initially be unavailable.

After the audio unit does it's reboot, you'll notice on the bottom left corner, in smaller print, the audio unit will start installing all of your apps in the background. I, would suggest letting all of those complete so there's no issues in the future. The TSB doesn't mention anything about it, but as a precaution, I'd go ahead and let all of them install in one swing so your next drive is good and ready to go (y)

GOOD News for OUR Canadian Friends, I have just uploaded the 'Canadian' 40.1 software update! If anyone gives it a shot, send me a PM or reply here to let me know if everything went through alright, please. I will update the Main Post in a bit once I know the file works.

THANKS!
Thank you for following up with this. I tried it on my Canadian 39.2. The file is definitely different from US one as this time the system picked it up right away and tried to update. However I had error 20 come up. Tried again and same.

That said, my radio is an odd one because it failed out of warranty and instead of spending hundreds for a whole unit replacement I just replaced the mainboard. This means my nav and the modem are not coded and don’t work. Everything else works great though. So this may have something to do with it.
What else does it state along with that error 20?
Maybe there's a clue in there somewhere 🤷🏻‍♂️
Wow your on a roll lol
I wouldn't say I'm on a roll.. took me a bit, but just trying to help the community out. 👍🏻

It gets to about 19% and then it pops the error. Not a lot more description in it, just that contact dealer and the software will revert to original and eventually restarts back to the original software.
Hrmmm... maybe try a different name brand USB Drive? Fat 32 format and see if you're lucky?
Is there a trick to removing the VRM connector? Was hard to see if there was a release and didn't want risk breaking it by pulling it the wrong way or too hard. Thanks in advance for any insight.
I personally wouldn't worry about removing the VRM Connector to reboot the unit. Just start the car, stab in the USB and Press update. I have no idea why that portion of the instructions is even there shrug

It is in there for the blank screen/no boot issue, or the rear system is turned off in the front Uconnect system and locked out in the back. This forces the system to reboot and activate the rear screens.

Yes, as you said, if the screens are on there is no need to unplug the grey connector from under the seat on the VRM.

I did not do this for my 2021 or the owners of my previous 2018. I plugged it in and updated it.

Thanks just did the update without pulling the connector. Took about 10-15 minutes but I did have to reset the remotes to get them to work. Thankfully found how to do that in these forums.

DO me a favor, PM the thread with those instructions, and i'll update the original thread for those doing the VRM update, to keep everything in one single place :)

I didn't even think about that. Good call. Appreciate you clarifying that :)
I have to say thank you for posting these files. You are the man. Saved me from paying the dealer $200 to upgrade my radio when it hadn't received an OTA update in years, and was stuck on 22.5 for who knows how long. Upgraded to 28.3 with no issue. I did get an error code 20 on the first run on 40.1, but the second attempt upgraded without issue. VRM upgraded without a hitch as well. Nice to know that if I want to, I can finally upgrade the NAV maps.
I did have to reset the remotes to get them to work.
I had to do the same for my 2021 and 2018. That update resets everything to the default settings on the rear screens including wiping the remotes that are synced. Absolute pain to reconnect them if you don't know how to reset the physical remotes. I had to go to each screen and set the background to auto, show the clock, and turn the lighted ports back on for at night.

Appreciate the files! I took my 2021 to the dealer 4 times to get them to update the VRM because of various problems and they never could figure it out. I know what they were doing wrong. The last time I was there they showed me the contents of the flash drive. They had the file on the drive in zip format rather than extracting the zipped fold and then dropping each separate file from the unzipped folder onto the drive.

They told me they tried it both zipped and unzipped and could not get it to update.

An unzipped folder works for the front Uconnect system as the files are required to be in a folder. The VRM is the opposite. I can see where the confusion was for the dealer had they only been updating the Uconnect systems. They turn wrenches, they don't work in IT.

I haven't gone through this thread, but I had the same issue. Turns out the firmware does a check of the different modules/devices attached to the uconnect and if one of the modules are not responding as expected it would have this behavior. For me it was my navigation/satelite receiver was defective, it was showing my position somewhere in the pacific ocean. Replacing the Uconnect system was the only solution. Apparently there is a design flaw with the navigation module overheating and eventually it fails. Early uconnect 8.4 systems had this issue. I never used the navigation so I didn't notice it was an issue until I took it to the dealer. I know from talking with the service tech earlier firmwares would brick the radio because at some point it would try to send/recieve info back to chrysler and if the cell module was defective the radio would crash in the middle of the update. I forget what version of the firmware but people with a firmware below that are no longer able to get OTA updates and were stuck with the lower firmware, because uconnect would no longer send updates to radios below a certain version, which is why when you go to the uconnect website and enter your VIN it will say there's no available updates. I can't remember but I believe the nav/cell are on the same module. So if your nav wasn't working it's quite possible your radio isn't able to get a connection to uconnect which then fails at 19% and do a reboot and restore to the previous firmware.

Looks like we should be getting an update in a week or so, from Uconnect® | VP4R SBX 8 | HERE:

PLEASE READ:

We are partnering with Uconnect® to release a new software version along with this map update.

We are expecting to have the new Software available for pre-order on May 30th. (however you may also receive an Over the Air update to your system from Uconnect that may eliminate the need to include software with your purchase)

Please check back then - thank you!

DO me a favor, PM the thread with those instructions, and i'll update the original thread for those doing the VRM update, to keep everything in one single place :)
  1. I didn't bother with the VRM connector.
  2. After inserting the USB drive, I had to follow a few prompts on the rear screen to begin the update.
  3. After the update, which took about 10-15 minutes, the remotes needed to be repaired. I reset the remotes (as seen in these instructions) but the pairing kept failing so I got frustrated and took a break.
  4. After restarting the van a few minutes later, I tried resetting the remotes one at a time and the pairing worked right away. So perhaps it was just another reboot that was needed or resetting the remotes one at a time was the way.

VRM update successful, now trying to do the 28.3 software update. When I plug the USB in after starting the car and waiting for the screens to boot up, nothing happens. Attempted this with two different thumb drives. Here is the unzipped file on root directory. Any suggestions on what I can do to make it fire?

You do not plug the Uconnect update into the Blu-ray player.
