Hi,

Newbie here. Purchased a 2017 Pacifica in December. I believe it's the touring L model. It has the sensors all over the body for sensing when you are close to objects, it seems this is called Parksense. It also has the auto braking feature when backing up if it detects too close to something. There is a button in the middle of the console below the screen to turn this on or off. In the first few months, I could turn it off and on fine. Now, if I try and push the button, it turns off for a second then right back on. The display by the speedometer says parksense off, then it comes right back on. Normally this wouldn't be too annoying, except we have a trailer hitch and a trailer. I can't back up the trailer any more because parksense sees it behind and auto brakes the vehicle.

I read through the manual and saw through the settings on the screen, you could turn off the auto reverse braking. I went in and unchecked the box, only to find it rechecks it immediately.

I used the assist button on the mirror to call Chrysler the other day. After 30 minutes, they said it would have to brought into a dealer. Ok. I called the dealer today and the soonest they can get it in to diagnose it is two weeks, during which time I need to use the trailer.

For the record, we are not using the keysense key to start the vehicle.

Has any one else had any issues turning Parksense off? Is there any known way to reset it?

Thanks in advance.

I had this occur a few weeks ago too. Only had a bike carrier in the hitch with one bike on it. Kept sensing it and would keep applying the brakes as I backed up. I tried the button, and the settings in uconnect. Same behaviour as yours, off for a second then back on.

I have the same issue. I put my hitch receiver in and I can only back up about two inches at a time hitting the P sense off button every few seconds. The park sense turns back on in about one second after it turns off with the button. I have the 5" uconnect and do not have a check box just the button on the dash. My VIN is 2C4RC1BG1HR599622

Update - Workaround

So mine goes in for diagnostic check tomorrow morning, I'll let you know what I find out.

For what it's worth, since it was critical to use a trailer about a week ago, I found a workaround. Not a great one, but it worked. I put packaging tape over the rear sensors. Clear packaging tape. I thought I remember reading that those sensors use sonar. I figured I would check to see if I blocked the signal if it would just override everything. It worked, with the tape on, the sensors never fired telling me I was too close to an object, thus not auto braking. Backed the boat in, took the trailer back, unhooked and pulled the tape off with no paint damage to the body.

I had called Chrysler twice with no known issue/remedy besides take it in. The issue did seem to start occurring after the first time it auto braked when the trailer was on, which sounds somewhat similar to what others here describe.

Hi everyone,

There is a TSB from earlier this year that should help anyone who is unable to turn off ParkSense:

"NUMBER: 08-001-17
GROUP: Electrical
DATE: January 06, 2017

SUBJECT:
Flash: Park Assist Module Software Reprogram
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves reprogramming both of the ParkTronics/Park Assist Module (PTS/PAM) with the latest available software.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may describe that if the park assist system is ON, pressing the LED button will not turn the system OFF. The customer may also experience a flicker in the graphics or chimes. If the park assist system is OFF, pressing the LED button will not turn the system ON. When this happens the park assist feature is disabled."

Thank you for posting this. I had the same issue and I took it to my Chrysler dealer. They had no clue what was wrong.I told them about this bulletin and then they fixed it. They charged me $255 for updating the software, since they said my vehicle was out of warranty, and Chrysler is not covering this update if the vehicle is out of warranty. (I had Mechanics extended warranty, so I had to pay $110 out of the $255, and the extended warranty covered the rest). I wish there was a way for the customer to do the update. (Not the UConnect system update, but park assist module). The update they made was on the park assist module from version 68193775AH to 68193775AI.

This ma be a dumb question but...Are you using a FOB with Keysense written on the back? If so that is your problem. Keysense requires ParkSense to be on at all times.

I have the same problem Of not being able to switch off the parksense sensors. Not just Real pain but, nearly impossible to reverse with my trailer.
There should be some way to reset the software without the dealership holding you for ransom.

I’ll ask you the same question are you using a fob that has Keysense written on the back? If so Parksense can not be turned off no ever. If you are using a fob with the Chrysler logo there is a button just Adobe the AC buttons marked P))) press that button to turn off Parksense.

Keysense is an optional teen driver safety system. Not only does it prevent Parksense from being disabled it also allows you to set the maximum speed, it can mute the radio if seatbelts are not buckled and limit the radio volume to 15.

I know it is not rocket science, but the normal settings to switch off the Parksense functions are not working. Have tried filling back to factory settings too but to no use.

Hi there,

Congratulations on your recent purchase! We'd be happy to look into your Uconnect software information to see if there are any applicable updates available? If you're still in need of assistanced, send us a private message with your VIN and current Uconnect software information.

Thanks,

Courtney
