My local dealer gave me the speech that he puts wheel locks on all cars. He said that he had one customer who refused the locks and woke up the day after he bought the car with it sitting on the rotors. He said between the damage done when they dropped it, when it was dragged onto the rollback and the cost of the wheels, the total claim was in the thousands! That story gives me heartburn. I really, really have to suspect an insider at the dealership. We also live in an area that I wouldn't expect wheel thefts. But, more importantly, people who do that stuff typically scope out the vehicle one night and come back another. The first night sounds really suspicious!
Either way, I will NOT pay extra for them. Since the dealer installed them, you can bet he has a bucket full of the OEM lug nuts. At the least, he should be willing to provide the 4 original nuts and allow the owner to change at their discretion.
This kind of stuff is what makes me detest this entire process and want to just keep driving my '09 T&C.
