Anyone with a better idea on connecting to internet for a cheaper price?
I feel like after spending $50k for a minivan we are still being nickle and dime from uconnect service to Mopar accessories and mopar parts. The prices are crazy. $460 for a replacement on my seat cushion cover with 1 inch tear. Van has 1k miles on it and I have to look at a torn seat every time I get in it. I would spent the money but Napa leather is so thin then I'm afraid it will tear again after spending the money.

Yes iPhones have hot spot capability but you must have a plan with it.

And it will be faster much faster (LTE vs 3G) than the Pacifica's hotspot.
So your data overage fees can rack up faster too :wink2:

I would try some of the offline viewing methods discussed in various forum topics here before considering upping my data plan, paying for tethering, and worrying about overages. Unless you have something like TMobile's BingOn or a legacy unlimited plan available to you...

No need for grandfathering, all the big providers are offering unlimited plans again. Speeds are reduced after you use a certain amount of data, but at least you don't have to worry about overages.

I have T-mobile. No Hot spot Fee. No overage charges. Just slows down after 4 GB, which I seldom get to.
I would not recommend streaming video in the car however except for short clips. You will have coverage dropouts and hit your high speed limit pretty quick.

I have a 6GB mobile internet plan with a SyncUP Drive (plugs into the OBD port and provides wifi hotspot). With BingeOn there is no data use for video. My son watched Finding Dori on our trip from San Jose to the Central Valley (just over 90 minutes) and the video only paused once going over the Altamont Pass.

T-Mobile had a promotion last November where customers could add 2-free lines to their account. I chose to add two free 6GB mobile internet plans. I also took advantage of a promotion where you got the SyncUP Drive device and an LG tablet for free after bill credits. The only thing I pay for that plan is $1.07 per month in taxes.

The 6GB plan normally costs $35/month (-$10 if you also have a voice line with T-Mobile). The only problem is I don't think new plans issued after February of this year include BingeOn, and if that's the case you wouldn't get the data free audio & video streaming.

I've heard there is a loophole that allows you to sign up for AT&T's unlimited connected car plan on a mobile hotspot device for just $20/month (no loophole needed if you are already on AT&T's new unlimited plan).
