Adding a little detail in this thread:
Yes, you can have the car turned on with the A/C running while it is plugged in. However, the car turns itself off after 30 minutes in this state, so you need to keep turning it back on or make a device to do so. I made one and describe it in a link from the other thread.

No, a 110v 12A charger isn't quite enough power to run A/C. If you let the van batteries charge to ~40% or so, it would likely be able to run A/C through the night using the 110v power and slowly consuming battery. I've thought about getting a 110v 16A charger, which should be able to keep up. You need a 20A circuit to use this type of charger. 220v 12A is more than enough to run A/C and slowly charge the van.

Also note, 240V at campgrounds are not the norm. Norm is 120 Volt 15 Amp standard plug, or 30 Amp RV plug, or on occasion a 240 Volt 50 Amp RV/14-50R plug. Key thing to note, is RV's don't normally use 240V.

 

Most 5th wheel campers use 240v 50a outlets. Many campgrounds that can handle larger rigs have them.
