Recently my van will star but the shifter is locked. I got a message service shifter on the display. The problem seems to be intermittent. I was driving it all morning, but in the afternoon, I can’t use the shifter anymore. I just got a new battery not too long ago.

Check your canbus connector. It's in the glove box. If you tap it it might turn on. I assume its bad and will likely need to be replaced. This is a common issue and one of the first sign is the shifter.
