Hi,

just wondering if someone is having the same issue as I have with relay clicking noise with gas pedal press and release at lower speed.

I have 2020 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid and recently I stared noticing that every time I press gas pedal and take my foot off ..I hear clink noise from driver side engine department. It has been becoming very noticeable with no music on in the car.

Is this normal issue? How to fix or what to say to dealer to help him fix this?

please advise.
Thanks.

Yes, exactly like this at lower speed between 20 KM- 50 KM..

but if I start slowly then it disappears.

were you able to solve the problem? I went to dealer and he says it’s normal but I want to get a second opinion.

please advise if you were able to manage resolve this issue.

Thanks,
P

Do you drive in "D" or "L"?

I drive in L and it's much more noticeable.

Had some suspension parts replaced the dealer thought might be the issue, but the noise persisted after that. The more miles we put on the van the more noticeable the sound and clunk feeling get.
I drive in D all the time.. the van is silent otherwise…what parts dealer replaced??

mine is still in warranty I hope they fix this..it’s irritating when no music is on in the car

Thanks for the info. Pacifica has the self locking axle nut, it's strange that it would get loose in a 2 month old or any older vehicle.

I am bumping up this thread because my 2018 PacHy gets the same click noise in Landshark's video. My PacHy is in dealer today. The technician couldn't even reproduce the noise and I had to show him how in a stop-and-go scenario.

Mine does not seem to have a loose axle nut, and I recently replaced left lower control arm as well. I tend to believe it's the bad engine isolator described in Hybrid clunks going into reverse.

Will update later.

Update: It appears that my local dealer is more experienced than my independant technician. Dealer technical used chasis ear to locate the cause - loose axle nut

It's crazy that the axle nut would get loose. I've driven a sienna for many years and never heard this problem.

Thank you all for your updates. The problem is that I’m from Republic of Moldova and we do not have any official Chrysler dealer, the shop where I do all the maintenances does not understand what is a axle nut and what needs to do, that’s because they do not have any English background at all. Can you please @lacompas or @optimas take a picture at least to show exact place where he needs to look into? Or the part number? Thank you very much!

Here is a picture of the nut when I replaced my wheel. Notice the white marker line and how the nut has backed out even though it was replaced and loctite applied.

I do not have the part number, but it's that black nut. Like I mentioned make sure to replace it, clean the hub and retorque to spec. On mine they even over torqued slightly and applied some loctite, but it backed out. I think they didn't clean the hub before replacing it.

Update for mine, I must have been in the shop 8 times with this issue.
They replaced the driver side nut a second time and applied loctite again. Fixed it for a week before the same noise came back. Then they replaced the driver side nut again for a third time, over retorqued both sides slightly and used a second nut on top of the axle nut to make sure there is no way it backs out. They marked both side again to measure any backing out.

So far so good after a week, it's the quietest it has ever been.

BTW they made me drive a brand new 2023 Pinnacle with 200km on the odometer, it made the exact same sound, it was actually worse then mine. They did agnoledge the TSB I had found regarding the clicking and replacing the axle/driveshaft/nut, however since a brand new one did the same noise they said it more than likely wouldn't fix it. They also tested two other PacHy they had in the shop for repairs, both had that noise.

IMO there is clearly an issue with the axle nut design, which lets it back out over time for some folks.

Can anyone confirm what size socket the Pacifica's axle nut requires? Is it 34mm? And anyone know the torque spec..?
I'm going to try DIY during my next tire rotation. Nut removal, clean, lube, reinstall, and torque...

Just purchased a used 2022 Pacifica Touring L with 28k miles. Had this exact noise as the video above.
Jacked up removed front wheels. Backed off and retorted both front axle nuts, They did not seem loose. After putting it all back together noise is gone. Took less than an hour. 19mm for wheel lugs and 34mm for Axle nuts, Torqued axle nuts to 80 ft lbs, The book said 70 but I went a little over.

My 2020 Pachy had this exact problem since about 18 months ago, plus an annoying jolt that happens mostly at the same time as the click sound.
2022 Summer, I started noticing the clicking noise when putting my foot on the acceleration pedal. It happened mostly on highway but not very often, so it didn't grab my attention.
2023 May, I started to noticing it a lot more, and I took it to a Chrysler dealer. They checked and told me that it needs a new transmission. The part took 4 months to arrive and got installed in October. However, the noise stayed, and got louder. Btw, the new tranny, which they say it's a 2nd gen pachy tranny, got a louder whining noise.
2023 November, I took the van in for the same problem as well as the acceleration jolt. This time they say it needs a new drive shaft to fix the noise, and tuned the ECU to try to ease the jolt.
Today, I still feel the jolt from the gas pedal, and still waiting on the shaft part to arrive.

When I took my van into the dealer for the clunk they told me it was motor mounts, 2k to replace all 3 of them, I passed, I looked at the mounts and they looked fine to me. The noise got worse and when I jacked up the van the isolator on the bottom had a lot more play in it, I replaced it, here is a picture of both side by side:

The clunk is not gone, but it is less, going to try to change the mount on top of the transmission next, from what I see it looks fine but its hard to tell when its installed. If you look at both parts, you can see they did update it so maybe this one will be stronger.

I wonder what the reason is for not having that isolator be a pressed in formfitting solid piece of rubber? The redesign definitely appears stronger...I'm having my transmission replaced with ~10,000 miles on it on the 30th. I'll see if any of the aforementioned topics this month come up in the Star Case and post here if relevant.

Have to ask, what are the "axle nuts". Is this the lug nuts that hold the wheels on or some other part of the front axle assemblies? I don't know of any other "nuts" but would like clarification, as I too have started hearing the distinct click when power is applied or released using the gas pedal on my '22 PacHy. Didn't notice this when new and van only has 10K miles on it.

Thanks, pic makes it clear, its the center nut on threaded end of axle that gets loose. This should be an easy fix, even if loctite and/or an additional lock nut is necessary. Odd problem on such a simple and commonly-used part. I will mention to dealer at next oil change. These forums can occasionally pay off with good information despite frequent lack of knowledge and hyperbole.

I just had my 2022 Pacifica PHEV in the shop for routine oil change and asked them to look at this issue again. As a reminder my dealer has looked at this sound 3 times. First time they said it was normal. Second time they replaced the entire front axle, both left and right half shafts, and then yesterday when they said the sound is normal “play” in the axle. They said that because the car is so quiet you hear everything. I just don’t understand how the sound could be abnormal and then they replace the axles but then the sound is normal now. It’s clearly something that varies based on a number of factors. I have no idea if they checked the axle nuts. I mentioned it to them…maybe when I get tires rotated the tire shop will tighten the axel nut when the wheel is off. Totally crazy and disappointing.
