Not sure what you're trying to do here. Are you trying to enable Carplay or Android Auto on it? If not, what is the difference between 3rd and 4th Gen ?

I am also interested to see if we can enable Carplay on this.
That was my goal, but the more I talked to folks it's not possible on the 2017 hardware in the Pacifica even when attempting to cross flash a firmware from a 2017 Charger, Challenger, or 300 due to a VIN check in the firmware. I also learned that the 2018 hardware of the Pacifica they changed from Harman to Panasonic and different USB connections.

Hopefully in time someone will crack this nut, but so far Infotainment and NavRepair.com said not possible

Okay, I got bored.

Just swapped in the 68461768AD receiver and 68316175AC display with the FAKRA cable, and so far so good. Called SXM and they pretty quickly updated my account, so I'm just waiting for the satellite signal to update. I'm also waiting for the radio to update with things my '17 Pacifica has and drop things that the '20 Hybrid it was sourced from had. I currently only have the driver seat heater working. CarPlay seems to be working just fine.

I'm going to look into whether this radio needs the software update. Should I do a reset on the radio?

Nope, it will take a several hours/power cycles for the radio to read the new BCM settings and have all of your vehicles features settle in. If all is not well by tomorrow I'd consider a reset. A software update can also present with features missing until the radio settles back in so if you want to minimize downtime now is a good time to flash firmware (it will also let you know if all is well with the radio and doesn't require returning).

Ok, @Jimal was successful with the anti-theft code so here is the process to decode for anyone in the future who would like their anti-theft code for free.

Anti-Theft Code is easily deciphered. Get the last 4 of the serial number from the radio module, for example last 4 of 0313. To decipher:

100 - 03 = 97 (100 minus first two characters of the last 4 digits of the serial number)

99 - 13 = 86 (99 minus last two characters of the last 4 digits of the serial number)

Full unlock code is 9786.

I believe this will work on all UAV/UAX/UAQ/UAS radios (possibly others too but haven't confirmed).

Basically a month in and so far, so good. Eventually pretty much everything worked as expected. I did have to pull the radio out, rearrange the cables, and put it all back together, as I was having a random issue with the screen flickering and going blank, while the radio kept playing. One of the connectors wasn't seated properly, and I had the FAKRA cable for the display routed in such a way that I think caused the issue.

Definitely an improvement over the older Uconnect system this replaced.

The flickering continues. Last night the display just went out. It remained backlit, and occasionally flickered on. The radio continued to play and I could change stations and so forth with the steering wheel controls. This morning without the headlights on, the radio continued to work, but the display did not come on until I disconnected and reconnected my iPhone from its cradle, causing CarPlay to switch off then back on, and it worked fine from there. I've also noticed that it doesn't always shut down completely when I turn off the vehicle and open a door, and it resumes where it left off when I restart instead of greeting me with the Chrysler logo and the disclaimer.

Seeing how this appears to be a random, hit-or-miss issue with these head units, how patient should I be before I just pick up another one? I have a long trip in a few weeks that I want this working reliably by. I did get a super deal on this particular unit, a 68461768AD. Is there a P/N for a more reliable unit?

#662 ·
I'd inspect the connections on the back of the radio for damage first. Particularly the LVDS cable connecting the radio to the screen. They can be found on eBay relatively cheap.

The radio resuming isn't unheard of if the vehicle hasn't been powered off for long. Do you know the timeframe for the resume? Also remember, if/when you get a different radio the old one you have issue with is still worth money. Finally, have you performed a reset on the radio yet?

And while I'm reporting on things, I'd like to report that I was able to activate the 4g hotspot and connected services.

I don't need it, but I was curious about the whole thing about it being tied to the VIN. Well, after enabling the wi-fi hotspot, setting up my network, and connecting my phone to the hotspot, my phone responded like it would when connecting to wi-fi on an airplane or hotel; it took me to the AT&T myVehicle site, allowed me to create an account, and activate the trial. It even gave me the VIN of the donor vehicle for my radio, which I was able to use on the Uconnect site to confirm that my software was up to date.

It's working because of the donor VIN. Their system is not aware of the presently installed VIN but it is aware of the IMEI which is tied to a valid VIN on their side.

IN addition, the Uconnect site is an unreliable narrator. It will say your vehicle is up to date regardless of it's firmware level and generally stopped giving firmware to anyone 5 or so years ago. I think the only reason it's maintained still is if they want to get a recall out at a lower cost and/or liability.

And SUCCESS!

Received an email a little while ago with not only the activation code, but with radio now linked to my van's VIN. Updated the maps, went out to pick up a kid from school, and the previously missing traffic circle is now there. Like a Bond villain, I'm just going to assume that that means everything is fine and I now have a fully functioning UAV in time for our big road trip. Woo-hoo!

Hello,
Trying to revive this forum in here.

We just got our Pacifica 2017 limited but we are from Europe. To our unpleasant surprise we didn't realize that the infotainment would be too outdated to use Android Auto... add in the fact that uconnect stuff is not working since we are not in US so no nav, no wifi hotspot etc... Since it doesn't have Android Auto I can't even use waze for navigating and the infotainment is basically just a neat screen for climate control and radio right now:)

We have the rear entertainment as well - for kids. But even if we play movies it's laggy and it just restarts or stops working after few minutes (not sure if issue with software or bumpy road messing with some connector). I was looking for some options to get it working somehow and I came across the idea of swapping the hardware with the 2018 model. However, I am complete noobie on this and I was wondering if it's worth it or not. Someone mentioned that it may not be compatible with the rear entertainment and I would need to have that replaced as well but that didn't make much of a sense.

Reading through this forum actually gave me some hope but I was wondering if I could get some up to date information on this.
Will I be able to use climate, radio, 360° camera, the uconnect theater and the games that were available with the rear entertainment even after we do the replacement? Because these work right now... The phone connects via Bluetooth and plays music as expected, we can make calls and set favorite contacts etc.. But we can't really connect to a phone hotspot or use Android Auto. We aren't really looking for anything fancy like uconnect assist and such. Would be lovely, but not doable and too costly I suppose. We would love to make streaming services like Disney and Netflix work as well for kids but I feel like this is something that would work if we had Android Auto. Even if I had the option to simply mirror my phone screen to rear monitors for kids would be a blessing actually.

So with this upgrade, would I still have the access to things I got now and the Android Auto? Sorry for being dumb but I have to ask because it's not like I can get spare 2018 infotainment laying around. We would have to have it installed and updated by the very same person who sold the car to us and that will definitely cost well over 1000 bucks. We don't have Chrysler in Europe so we are completely reliant on these few individuals that specialize in shipping and selling these cars in here. I need to know I am not making a mistake is what I am trying to say. Thanks!

All of your features should work. One thing I am not sure on is the theater option, but if you're going to a Uconnect 4C then I believe it should still work. The radios themselves get their instructions for installed features from the body computer of the vehicle, so all features won't show up immediately but will begin working again with time and power cycles. You cannot use streaming services on Android auto without "advanced" modifications to your phones which is likely something you will not want to get into.

I "think" UConnect theater will work just fine, but I don't have it so can't say for sure. I have run into someone on these forums who converts US market radios for the European market (US radios won't accept European firmware without modification). It would be best to try to track down a European seller of UConnect Radios. I highly recommend Magnus with Customtronix (a company in Sweden), he's good people, very helpful and can probably get you squared away with the upgrade. You'll want to see if they sell a UConnect 8.4" 4C Radio that has EU firmware...

just wanted to add my experience here as there's a lot of random info in this thread and its hard to decipher what is and isn't fact

  • i have a 2017 pacifica limited w/ nav, 360 cameras and rear entertainment screens, i had the 8.4" display w/ VP4 receiver
  • i bought a 2020 screen and UAV receiver from ebay, both appear to have come from the same vehicle, part no's 68316174AC & 68461768AA, auction also listed the vin it came from and it was from a 2020 limited, window sticker makes mention of it having the 360 camera but not the rear entertainment screens
  • i bought this "FAKRA Z HSD LVDS" cable from amazon for $23 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TYV161V?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)
  • head unit was super easy to pop off, just pull hard and the clips will release
  • the existing cables are a little short so it's a little tricky to get them plugged back in to the new receiver, attached is a diagram of what cables go where on the new receiver, there will be 3 cables not used, green in bottom corner, purple (the keying on the connector doesn't match up) and the existing white fakra cable (although not sure why this can't be re-used, i never checked it, just basing that on previous posts) - maroon connector doesn't have a corresponding cable
  • other end of the fakra cable goes to the back of the screen, along with another black multi-pin connector that already exists in the car
  • once that was all connected, i powered up the car (i never disconnected the battery) and the screen lit up with the Chrysler logo and then it went to a 'locked' security screen with a number pad, initially the touchscreen did not work, i powered off the car, doubled checked my cable connections were firmly in place and tried again and the touchscreen was fine after that
  • i followed an existing post on how to get the security code, you'll want the serial number from the receiver, the one on the mopar side of the sticker, take last 4 digits of the serial number, subtract first two from 100, second two from 99. that's your code. for example if your serial number ends in 1234 it would be 100-12, 99-34, code you type in is = 8865
  • all functions and features worked immediately, did not have to wait for anything to populate, 360 camera works perfect, rear entertainment was unaffected, had to transfer over my xm subscription to the new radio, that just took a quick chat with sirius (if they try and charge you a $15 reconnection fee just argue it, they will waive it)
  • apple carplay and android auto works with a wired usb connection, 4G seems to be working although i don't intend on paying for it so i can't fully verify that
  • all steering wheel controls still work as normal, all hvac controls work, headrest fold and seat cooling/heating also controllable as normal
  • interface is much nicer and clearer, text easier to read, album art now shows for bluetooth and sirius xm, nav is also much nicer, dare i say it even sounds better?
  • a cool new feature i wasn't aware of, after you are done reversing it will switch the backup cam to the front facing cam for a few seconds while you drive away, its a nice addition
  • very very happy i did this upgrade, its super easy, i was able to get both parts for under $200 and the cable was $23, so $223 total
  • hopefully this helps anyone doing this upgrade in the future

Anyone get a black screen after the Chrysler boot (2019 receiver and 2020 screen in a 2017 Limited)? I can adjust AC temp and fan controls through the dial and the values show up on the screen and the reverse camera works, but otherwise nothing. It's not giving me a prompt to enter a PIN. I bought AlphaOBD and it shows a B2206 error (VIN mismatch).

I'm thinking I either have to go to the dealer and have them reprogram or I attempt with different head unit. Either way has some additional costs involved.

Just to update. I ended up swapping for another unit. My 2017 is a Limited with Uconnect theater and Nav. I think the first model I purchased had a mismatch of features (# 68401447AB)? The second one I bought was a 68351931AE and booted up right away. Took another restart for the features to populate. Haven't tested everything yet but so far so good. Can confirm that the PIN is related to the last four digits of the serial: 100 minus first two, 99 minus second two as previously stated.
