1) 05/22/25 - Taken the vehicle in for 73B Recall (Picked up the vehicle on 05/23/25) - Duration: 1 day

2) 05/27/25 - Engine light shows up with U0412 issue, sent the vehicle back to Chrysler dealership, found metal!? in transmission and stated that engine light issue was fixed (Picked up the vehicle on 06/26/25) - Duration: 30 days

3) 07/19/25 - Engine light shows up again with P0A0A-00 issue, sent the vehicle back to Chrysler dealership, no issue was found and engine light was cleared after a day (auto-magically?) (Picked up the vehicle on 07/21/25) - Duration: 2 days; then we went for a trip and came back charging the car the very first time after the fix under a HOT night (over 80F) inside garage, next day...

4) 08/17/25 - Engine light shows up with U0412 DTC code once again, drive the vehicle a couple of times over the course of the day and the engine light went away... Went for a week long trip and didn't charge the car until we went back home, charged the car under another HOT night (over 80F) inside garage, next day...

5) 09/02/25 - Engine light shows up with U0412 DTC code once again... very frustrating, this time the code went away again after 2 days but we decided to send the vehicle back to the dealership. Now that our 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has been at the dealership since 09/06/25. Dealership was advised by the STAR engineer to clear the code (which the dealership was able to capture from OBD II when the vehicle was brought in) and try to duplicate the issue but dealership mentioned that they were unable to duplicate the DTC code even after driving the car for 30+ miles and charge it to full right away and repeated this test 2 times. (Note that currently North Cal weather is pretty mild this week so they were unable to charge the vehicle under a HOT environment)

This has been a miserable experience to us since the 73B recall as this has been a big hassle to our family and we all felt very unsafe like others driving this vehicle, given we don't know when the vehicle can be stalled with this engine light going on and off, especially with a battery related issue like this. In addition, we felt that this U0412 issue seems to be related to a HOT ambient environment during charge, like over 80F inside garage, may be easier to get it triggered. Does anyone have a similar experience on this? Dealership is trying to get this replicated so any suggestions would be helpful.

Yeah, Chrysler is sucking with these new issues post-recall software update.

The disgusting thing about this is, Chrysler is very well aware of this issue being the vehicles are connected cars anytime a DTC is thrown. They prefer to play dumb though. Does not matter if you are subscribed to guardian services or not, the vehicles are always on, always connected they get the data reports from DTCs. If you are not paying, your access is blocked, but their access is always connected and reporting to them.

I will say one thing regarding the app. I have an active subscription and it does notify when I charge and unplug. They might get the DTC (assuming), but I have not had any alert saying theres been any CEL when I have a CEL on the vehicle. I did have it prior, like 2 years ago, but this year I have not seen any warning when my vehicle gets the CEL. It just says its still green for everything. So there is something up with the app with regards to CEL. At least from my stand point. I wish I could get notifications on the app so I have extra proof that it was active.

I think there was a loss of continuity in the transition from FCA to Stellantis.

You have to pay to get the CEL alerts; otherwise, you are blocked from that info, but Chrysler still gets all data flows from every vehicle. Look up Lexis Nexis buying vehicle data from OEMs and selling your vehicle data to insurance companies.

Likewise, no further check check engine light, but U0412 code is still up (see image below), roughly additional 450 miles on the odometer since I last reported in.

What's interesting in the live data when I checked on the PIDs for the Hybrid Control Processor was that the HV Battery Voltage from BPCM, and it's reading... +4k volts??? That seems excessive... Thoughts anyone?

Quick belated update here on my U0412 error code history - so far, we're still running without issue, no check engine light. Hope this gives some hope for people who are worried about the code.
  • We're now up to 77,301 miles (+1,446 miles), just over a month (Sep 10) since the check engine light first appeared (and disappeared) on Aug 2.
  • OBD2 scanner still shows U0412 as an active code
  • Our driving history since issue was first reported has been short daily commutes or trips under 20 miles, 80-90% on battery only
  • Charging has been on a daily basis, usually keeping things around 50-60% at home and topping up to full charge at work, except for weekends when we top up to full 100% charge at home. Level 2 EVSE, older Juicebox Pro 40 (pre-Enel, e-motorwerks) in dumb mode
  • We're due for California STAR (smog check) testing later this week, so we'll see if that brings up any alarms

I have the "SiriusXM Guardian Convenience + Security". I see monthly report and all the modules on the health report is always green with a check. I havent seen it trigger any of the modules for probably the last year. I recall prior when I had a check engine light, I would get a message and then the module wouldn't be green. I assume they did something on their side and it broke. At least for my account.

Definitely keep monitoring it for sure. I didn't get the P0BBE until about 2 months and 2k+ miles after the recall was performed. Then after getting the car back it had the U0412 once and now it's back at the dealership. And let us know if it passes smog. I'm curious since if it triggered a CEL once, there might be a freeze data and if it becomes "active" then it'll likely fail. That has been one thing Im concern on. If one day it fails in the future.

As for my vehicle, I'm still waiting to hear back from the dealer on the P0E7C code now. I assume the part will be getting replaced.

Well after 7months since the last 0412 code, I got it again today. @ChryslerCares what should we do?? The dealer couldn’t find any issues, there’s nothing anyone can do?
@ChryslerCares same here... our head gasket failed and was replaced, but the 0412 code wasn't there at the time, and came back yesterday (since disappeared again).

You are the third hybrid owner to report headgasket issues. Was the point of failure between 3 and 5?

I should also note that my car has had other check engine lights, specifically P0A0A, and the service center says the MSD part is slightly loose. The MSD is some computer part. Wiggling of the connection can reproduce the error code. I chose not to fix it given the cost and seems to just once a while issue. Is it possible this same problem is causing the U0412 issue?

It is improbable given U0412 was ever an issue with any hybrid until after the recall software update.

Multiple cylinders but I forget which. It’s a known issue with pentastar 3.6L motors and the service writer said it will probably fail again and MOPAR warranty will cover it again (I bought an “unlimited” warranty shortly after purchasing the 2018 Limited for about $3k).

I have been informed that the new battery pack for my van was approved and ordered. The current ETA for the dealer to receive the battery pack it is 9/12 (but I'm not holding my breath).

Here's my timeline so far:
  • Recall 73B work done on ~3/10/25 at 46,275 miles
  • Code U0412 appeared on 5/22/25, disappeared shortly after, reappeared on 5/26/25, went off shortly after that
  • Code U0412 re-appeared the week of 8/11/25
  • Car drives, charges, and otherwise functions fine until 8/21/25 when it will no longer charge and shows a "Service Charging System" message when trying
  • Dropped the van off at dealer on 8/26/25 and they pull code P0BBE when I drop it off (it's possible P0BBE started on 8/21 and I just couldn't see it with my reader)
  • STAR Case with Chrysler opened on 8/28/25
  • Battery pack was approved by Chrysler on 9/4/25
  • Now we wait...
Our van is a 2018 with ~51,000 miles on it.
We've reached the ETA date of 9/12, and the update today from the dealer was that they no longer have an ETA. There's not a new ETA at this point, just no ETA at all. So our one vehicle continues to sit at the dealer. I do have a case open with ChryslerCares, but so far my advisor at the dealer and my Chrysler case manager have failed to actually get each other on the phone. Hopefully, someone will have some sort of actually update before too long.

They should be able to communicate electronically via the Star Case. If they can't talk they can bounce messages back and forth.

I wouldnt be surprised if it takes them another 2 weeks or longer. When I had mines replaced it was approved I think on June 4/5 with the ETA of June 30. Battery wasnt delivered until 7/24 I believe. So I suspect it would range between 3 weeks to 2 months maybe depending on the number of batteries they have to replace. I know when I followed up with my dealer they had another battery pack requested sometime at the end of June and their battery and mines came at the same time apparently. Arrived to the dealership with no warning is what my advisor told me. I wish for the best and a quick turn around for you.
